chapter 6
Happy birthday to my little pumpkin Nifemi2831. I decided to post this chapter because of her, we've decided not to read anything today. So, let's go
KHALID
I walked into her room after her response, while packing her full hair she turned to me with an angelic smile that warmed my heart, she was way beautiful this morning, most times after she just recovered from any sickness or stress, the aftermath was always an addition to her beauty.
"You seem okay this morning?" I queried while sitting by the edge of her bed.
She jumped up and smiled, "Yeah, I'm now as agile as a monkey."
I chuckled before replying, "Wait, that's the voice of the pap seller, should I call her?"
"Nooo, like I want good food, since Friday, I've been drinking pap, help me cook maybe fried rice."
I scoffed, "You now have mouth to talk abi, this time yesterday and the day before yesterday, you were groaning, and I was mopping your stomach."
She eyed me before throwing her comb at me and I dodged it, "You're mocking me abi, it's not your fault, it's because you're a guy if not you'll know how painful my period is."
"I know it, like since six years now, I'm always the one taking care of you since you started menstruating so, I share the pain with you."
She gave a dismissive wave of her palm, "Whatever, I want to eat good food, let me go and prepare fried rice, you must have your bath before I return oo," she pulled her ear like someone talking to her child and I found it cute.
A smile crept up my face, she took a glance at me before leaving the room and I left her room too and went to the guest room which was practically my room to take my bath.
I've been at Kikiope's place since Friday, we didn't go to school so far she always missed school whenever her period started, she was someone who always had pains without eating anything for the first two days except pap and with her Mom not always being around most times, I had to stay with her, it was only after I mopped her stomach that she do get a good sleep.
Today being a Sunday she didn't go to church according to the doctrine of the celestial church, so, we didn't have anywhere to go, my parents were on a business trip as usual and my Aunt had rounds at the hospital.
Minutes later, I got dressed in a blue shorts on a white top and decided to join her in the kitchen.
"Ehhss, thank you, don't help me with the food, go and clean the sitting room," she commanded and I scrunched my eyebrows.
"Do I look like your child?"
"Go and cross your legs then, useless boy, you cannot do anything," she punctuated it with a hiss as she used the napkin to clean her wet hand, she eyed me before walking out of the kitchen. I chuckled and followed suit.
"God saved you that the living room is clean."
"I'm not a baby like you," I retorted, and she pouted before sitting on the couch.
We engaged in a discussion till the food got done, after serving the food, we sat on the dining chair and continued the discussion before the power agencies interrupted.
"Up NEPA!!!" Kikiope shouted with so much joy that you'll think she won a lottery.
"See the way you're shouting like a kid," I mocked, and she rolled her eyes.
"Whatever, I haven't been able to watch film since Friday so, you expect me not to be happy," she got up before I could respond and proceeded to switch on the TV but the power supply was interrupted.
"This people are crazy, Ko ni da fun won, mad people," she cussed and I laughed heartily.
Main reason I wasn't ecstatic, those NEPAS are just too stupid, always spoiling show and cutting short one's happiness.
"Anyway, your friends visited you yesterday when you were asleep," I told her as she sat down and picked up her spoon.
"Which of my friends?"
"Abimbola..."
She lifted her brows and I chuckled.
"Okay, your sister then, she came with Nnena and Tunde, it was concerning the drama."
"Oh, others already know theirs but your girlfriend and her friend's brain is just like peanuts, just how many scenes they can't cram it."
"You didn't mention Tunde ooo," I reminded, and she pursed her lips.
"Tunde knows his own already, I'm certain he only visited yesterday."
I raised my brows before continuing, "Anyway, Kunmi said to greet you and Bimpe would visit later in the day," I announced, and she nodded.
We ate the food in silence, minutes later, we were done with the food and after watching the dishes, NEPA decided to grace us with their power supply, this time Kikiope didn't shout but rather hissed and cursed them.
We both plopped into the two-seater and proceeded to watch film. She picked up the remote and switched it to Telemundo while I groaned, she eyed me knowing I wasn't a fan of Telemundo series, but she hissed at me.
Hours later, the NEPAS disgraced themselves again and this time Kikiope angrily threw the remote at me.
"What na? Do I look like NEPA or am I part of their family?"
"Get away jhoor, ehn, I've almost forgotten sha, I need to bake cupcakes for this week."
"Are you still baking it nii?" I teased, and she rolled her eyes, I just hope it won't roll out of its socket one day.
"Stupid question," she slid her legs into her slippers and stood up, I smiled before following suit, we both walked into the kitchen before she brought out the ingredients and placed them on the kitchen board.
"Is this flour?" I queried.
"Noo, garri," she placed a cup into the flour before using her hands to pour it on me.
"Ah," I moved back, and she tittered, so I decided to retaliate and poured another portion on her, she did the same again and I proceeded to revenge until we heard a click sound.
We both turned to the sound and Bimpe laughed out loudly, "This is a nice pic, others must see this."
"How did you get in?" We hollered in unison before bursting into laughter.
After the laughter died down, she responded, "You guys didn't lock the door, that's how they'll just kidnap you, anyway, Kikiope, how are you doing now?"
"Fine, I'm very much okay."
"I can see that, I'm certain you haven't baked anything at all."
Kikiope nodded in accordance, "It's because of this stupid boy, Khalid, just go out, Bimpe and I will bake here."
"But…"
Bimpe cut in, "Go out jare or do you want me to throw you out?"
"Do I look like a ball or a cloth?"
"Sha go outside," they both moved nearer to me and in a blink of an eye pushed me out of the kitchen, I laughed heartily before jumping on the chair.
Picking up my phone, I decided to chat with the guys, Abee do sneak in his phone to the hostel so, he knew everything about the outside world.
Hours later after they were done with the baking, NEPA decided to grace us with their power supply but this time none of us were eager, immediately Kikiope picked up the remote, we heard a knock from the door. I stood up and inched towards the door, opening it widely, my eyes met with Abimbola and her best friend, Nnena, she grinned at me before moving closer to kiss me but I only turned back.
"Please, shut the door behind you," I implored but before they could close the door, Tunde walked in, I groaned inwardly as Nnena closed the door.
"Hi guys," he greeted as he stepped into the house while Abimbola and Nnena followed behind him.
"Hi," Kikiope and Bimpe greeted in unison. I sat on the couch.
He plopped beside Kikiope before Bimpe talked, "Awon auntie, you can't greet abi?"
Abimbola pursed her lips while Nnena extended her greetings to them before sitting on the three- seater.
Abimbola started, "So, your house hasn't changed at all, like at the real house, Dad just changed the furnitures and..."
"Hais, just close your pit latrine, I didn't ask you about your house, this is my house so, respect yourself." Kikiope warned while eyeing her warily.
"This is also my father's house."
Kikiope scoffed before clapping sarcastically, "This is my house and not our father's house, he has no dime in it."
Abimbola pouted before sitting beside me.
"You don't have to squeeze yourself beside me, the three-seater is enough."
"I'm comfortable here," she told me with a wide smile and I nodded.
"So, how are you?" Tunde turned to Kikiope who smiled before responding.
"I'm good."
"I've been coming since Friday but you were always asleep, so..."
Bimpe cut in, "You guys came to rehearse your lines right? So, let's get to it and stop wasting time, remember we're the major roles, and we're presenting on Wednesday."
"Yeah, that's true," Nnena added.
"Abimbola, hope you know all your lines? I don't want one stupid person to start stuttering and spoil the whole thing oo," Kikiope said and that earned her a glare from Abimbola.
"What do you mean?" She ended it with a hiss and Kikiope scoffed.
Minutes later, they commenced the rehearsal and with me not being part of it, I turned to the TV and stationed it to soundcity.
"Mr. Man, reduce the volume of that thing jare," Bimpe shouted and I did as instructed knowing it was distracting them.
💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫
We'd just finished our breakfast of bread and egg when the Chief comportment officer walked up to us.
"The principal wants to see you," she announced in her fake American accent.
"Who amongst us?" Doyin inquired.
"All of you," she responded before instructing one of the junior students to pick the litters on the floor.
"Like the six of us?" Kunmi pestered.
"Yeah," she replied succinctly.
"What did we do?" Bimpe continued, apparently, they were trying to frustrate the girl.
"How are my suppose to know that?"
"Who are you talking to?" Kikiope asked and she pouted before proceeding to walk away but Doyin pulled her back with her skirt.
"Where are you trying to go?"
"Let go of my skirt."
"And, if I don't?"
"Anyway, where is the principal?" Abee inquired.
"His office of course."
"Good, now, you're going to lead the way," Bimpe told her immediately Doyin released her grip from her cloth.
"Why should I go with you guys?"
"Wire," Kikiope replied as she stood up while the others chuckled in return before we all stood up.
"Lead the way," Bimpe told her and she did, while she led the way, the girls walked behind her while we guys were at their back.
Minutes later, we got to the principal's office.
"They're here, sir," the chief comportment officer announced before the principal looked up from whatever was on his table.
"Okay, you may take your leave," he permitted and she walked out but not without earning a frown from Kikiope.
"Good morning sir," we all chorused immediately the chief comportment officer girl left the office.
"Good morning, I called you here because of the upcoming competition, I'm sure your teachers will have informed you guys about it."
"No, sir," we replied concurrently.
He squeezed his face before continuing, "Anyway, it's about the Sagamu day and as we all know, the celebration has started since the beginning of this month, so, this week is all about the competitions."
"What competition, sir?" Bimpe inquired, and we all nodded in accordance even though we were all aware of the competitions, we'd somehow started the preparation for the Akarigbo cup and all other sports, infact we qualified for the semi- final round two weeks back and the final round is this Friday.
"Sports competition, essay, debate, quiz and so on," he explained, and we nodded in return.
"Good, so, everything is this week, again, I'm afraid Doyin and Abee won't be able to go home for the midterm break."
"Why, sir?" They both queried simultaneously even though they were aware of the reason.
"Due to the competition, you guys will have to stay in the hostel but don't worry, one of the hostel supervisors will be with you guys," he assured, and they smiled in return.
"Sir, just the two of us can't be in the hostel," Abee countered.
"That's true, so, I think we'll just inform our parents and stay at Kikiope's place," Doyin added.
"My place?" Kikiope touched her chest and Doyin winked at her.
"Okay, then, just ensure you come to school early on the stipulated day so the school bus can take you guys," he said, and we all chuckled, mainly because our school doesn't have a school bus to call its own but maybe they planned to buy one ooo.
"I think that's all, see Mr. Nala to guide you through," he concluded.
"Okay, sir," we chorused.
"Good, ensure you come back with the medal, I even trust you guys though."
We all grinned sheepishly at this.
"Okay, you're dismissed."
We sauntered out of his office and the bell was jingled for the commencement of the assembly.
"That timekeeper cannot even rest," Kunmi complained.
"Abi oo," Bimpe added.
"I didn't put your mouth there," Kunmi fired.
"Neither did I, ode oshi," Bimpe snapped, and we all erupted into laughter. They were always at loggerheads, always finding fault in each other's doing.
"But, guys, don't you think we should make this mid term a memorable one?" Kikiope began when we all stopped laughing.
As if on cue, we all stopped on our tracks and turned to her.
"In what way?" I inquired.
"Good, Doyin and Abee would be staying at my place for break, don't you think you guys should join too?"
"Wow, so, you even have brain," Kunmi jested.
"Noo, she doesn't have brain, dash her your own na, you'll just be talking without sense," Bimpe snickered and Kunmi shook his head in return.
"I agree with that, it's not a problem for me," I concurred.
"Okay, I'll just talk to my grandparents," Kunmi said.
"O jebi, you for not talk to them before," Bimpe eyed him, and he ignored her.
"What of you?" Doyin asked Bimpe.
"I'll just lie to them jare."
"Shotan, you're going to lie, oniro oshi," Kunmi countered and Bimpe hissed in return.
Kikiope opened her mouth to talk but the voice of the Senior Prefect girl stopped her.
"Please, run to the assembly ground, devotion has started."
"Are you talking to us?" Bimpe asked and the S.P girl nodded slowly before we all erupted into laughter.
"Better go say that to the junior ones," Doyin told her, and she walked away.
"Okay, our midterm break is settled then," Kikiope concluded before we all walked to the assembly ground majestically.
Midterm break, here we come!
