Author's Note
In 2018, I had a dream (this isn't that speech....) about this story and for some reason it refused to leave my mind. Thankfully it didn't.
I spent some time writing the first draft throughout 2018 and thinking it was complete, it wasn't until late 2020 that I sat down and realised there is so many gaps and it's clearly not finished.
Well now it's 2022 and this I can say with every ounce of hope, Pull The Trigger is officially done and makes as much sense as I can possibly make it.
Super happy.
I know that some people probably aren't happy that the LGBTQIA+ lead dies halfway through her story especially since I know people want the happy ever after. Regardless of Vera's sexuality, she was going to die either way. She had to, the whole point of her story is she refuses to marry into a family she hates.
When I wrote Zasha, Zasha was again going to always be Vera's girlfriend and I wanted to make sure that I wrote Zasha as a strong woman who can hold her own even with a crime boss as her girlfriend. I still wanted to create Zasha as her own and tried to avoid the "black supporting character trope". I know as a white woman, I may or may not have failed on that part. I do apologies if I have failed that, that wasn't my intention.
Though when I wrote this version (the one that you have just read), I realized that this story is more than just about homophobia and a touch of racism but rather about generational trauma with homophobia and racism.
Vera, Tommy and Antonio are all forced to follow their parent's footsteps while trying to break into their own little shadows. Zasha swept into this because she's connected to Vera, which in return show's either how little the other characters care about Zasha or how much Zasha is affected by those around her.
There is going to be a another part to this story expect it follows a woman dubbed as "Snake" and her issues with Mr Tonio, which will also cameo Antonio and Trouble. I just have to make sure it makes sense due to the way this is written, it needs to follow from this while standing on it's own.
I hope you liked reading Pull The Trigger.
Thank you for reading.
