53- Theories v/s Memories

"I believe we both came to an agreement that we aren't getting out of the house." Rehaan taunted me as soon as I entered the house again.

"First of all, I didn't exactly leave. I just went till the lift to see her off. And secondly, didn't you hear Ananya Di say that it was safe now," I countered back, before my mood turned somber, "At least till I don't bother fighting for my original identity," I said, curling my lips into a pout.

"We will fight back. I don't know how but we will," Rehaan said with determination.

If you thought that Rehaan can be put down with one harsh comment then you were clearly wrong.

Ananya Di's words might have put down his plan, but his determination to fight was still unwavering.

"However, don't go out of the house yet. I don't trust that Di of yours," he continued, making my nose flair.

If I thought he would give up on his suspicion this easily, then I was the one who was clearly wrong.

"I trust her," I told him point blank, challenging him to fight with me on this as I looked straight into his eyes.

"She is suspicious," he said, narrowing his eyes, fighting back fiercely.

"I was too. I was suspicious in your mind too." I huffed, folding my hands. "Just think about how many times you suspected me. Even if you add your toes along with your fingers to count, it won't suffice."

"At the end, you were caught lying," he deadpanned.

I cleared my throat, feeling embarrassed.

"Still," I shouted defensively, "you were still wrong about me being your attacker."

"Yeah yeah." He nodded mockingly. "Let's not go over there. That thing is done and dusted with. The current topic is that I am suspicious of your Ananya Di."

"Who aren't you suspicious of?" I muttered under my breath.

"I heard that." He gritted his teeth at me. "I also heard about God of suspicion," he told me, before making a bad face at me.

I scratched my head sheepishly, but didn't back down. "Was I wrong though? You keep suspecting everyone left and right.

"This suspicion isn't out of nowhere," Rehaan said at a loud pitch, looking offended that I was disregarding his judgment altogether.

"I am not making it up in the air. I already gave you so many reasons as to why she is suspicious," he said at last, in a normal yet hurt tone.

"You have theories while I have memories."

"What?"

"Trust Rehaan, I am talking about trust. It doesn't go away because of some logical assumptions. We trust the person, not the situation."

"You don't think my concerns are reasonable?" He sounded genuinely curious, and not at all offended.

A smile onto my face as I looked at Rehaan who seemed like a cute, innocent child, who was so sure of his judgment yet unsure why others didn't see the obvious.

"Your concerns are reasonable. They definitely make sense. All we know about the culprit is through her. And we haven't even gone to check my house. The fact she is consistently trying to give up on fighting is also there. All of these are perfectly reasonable doubts."

"Exactly. So—"

"I would have believed them right away if I didn't know her for the person she is. If she was just an unknown face. Or a mystery to be solved, I would have gone along with your doubts.

"But since I know her, since I trust her, I can't. I see the genuine care in her eyes Rehaan. I saw how worried she was when I didn't pick up her phone. Or when she went and slashed all her principles while trying to cheat you into making me stay here. All because she cared for my well being."

"Trust," he muttered, looking down at the floor, as he contemplated on my words.

Looking up again, he asked me, "Do you really really trust her? Like 100% trust. Not a single chance of it wavering?"

"No chance," I said firmly.

"Okay."

"Okay?" I tilted my head a bit in confusion.

"We trust her then," he said, before giving me a small smile.

A simple sentence. Such a normal one. It wasn't a confession or anything. It wasn't even about trusting me. Then why? Why did my heart start racing at this small thing?

Because...because he put all his trust on your trust. God of Suspicion did.
