The Kiss

Sylvanna's house buzzed with a tense energy as everyone gathered for an urgent meeting. The living room was dimly lit, a stark contrast to the bright, animated discussions happening in the kitchen. Ein sat on the couch staring blankly at the floor, his mind a chaotic swirl of fear and shame. Aaron sat beside him, close but not touching, respecting the fragile state Ein was in.

In the kitchen, Sylvanna, Aphmau, Garroth, Katelyn, Kawaii~Chan, and Travis huddled together, voices low but urgent as they discussed their next steps. Detective Harris stood by, outlining the security measures being put in place.

"We need to stay vigilant," Sylvanna said, her voice firm. "Zack is very dangerous and we can't take any chances."

"We'll all take shifts keeping an eye out," Garroth suggested. "Make sure he doesn't get anywhere near Ein."

Katelyn nodded. "We'll need to coordinate with the school as well and make sure they're aware of the situation."

Back in the living room, Aaron turned to Ein, his heart aching at the sight of his friend so broken. He reached out, placing a tentative hand on Ein's shoulder. "Hey, Ein. I know this is overwhelming, but we're all here for you. You're not alone in this."

Ein flinched at the touch, his eyes squeezing shut as he recoiled.

"Don't," he whispered, his voice choked with emotion. "Don't pretend like this doesn't change everything."

Aaron's expression softened, but he didn't withdraw his hand. "It doesn't change how we feel about you, Ein. We're your friends and we care about you."

Ein shook his head, tears welling up. "You don't understand. My father... he hates everything about me and now he's out there probably looking for me. I can't drag you into this mess."

Aaron leaned closer, his voice gentle but insistent. "You didn't drag us into anything. We chose to be here because we care about you and we'll do whatever it takes to keep you safe."

Ein shook his head, his eyes welling with tears. "You don't understand, Aaron. I'm nothing but trouble. I always end up dragging people into my problems. My father... he used to beat me mercilessly for years because I was the product of an affair. He hated me for existing, for being a constant reminder of his past mistakes."

Aaron's eyes widened, his heart aching for Ein. "Ein, I'm so sorry. You didn't deserve any of that."

Ein continued, his voice trembling. "It wasn't just at home. The bullying, the abuse... it never stopped. At school kids would torment me, call me names, beat me up and I always felt like it was my fault, like I somehow deserved it because of who I was."

Aaron's grip on Ein tightened. "Ein, none of that was your fault. You didn't deserve any of it. You're not responsible for other people's cruelty."

"But it never stops," Ein whispered, his voice barely audible. "No matter where I go or what I do it's like I'm cursed. I don't want you to get hurt because of me. You're too good for that."

Aaron looked into Ein's eyes, his expression determined. "Ein, you don't have to carry this burden alone. We're in this together. And I promise you, no matter what happens, I'll stand by your side."

Ein's tears flowed freely now, the weight of his pain and shame beginning to lift under Aaron's unwavering support.

"I don't know if I can do this," he admitted, his voice breaking.

Aaron looked at Ein with a mixture of compassion and determination.

"You can," Aaron said softly. "And you will. Because you're stronger than you think, Ein. And you've got all of us here to help you through it."

Ein hesitated, his eyes filled with uncertainty and vulnerability. "Aaron... there's something else. I've had feelings for you for a while. I know...I'm such a freak for even liking men. You don't even have to say it..."

Aaron's expression softened even more. "Ein, you're not a freak. You're just you and I... I think I might feel the same way."

Ein's eyes widened in surprise. "You do?"

Aaron nodded, his hand gently squeezing Ein's. "Yeah, I do. This whole situation is new for both of us, but it doesn't change how I feel about you. We can figure it out together, one step at a time."

A small, tentative smile formed on Ein's lips. "Thank you, Aaron. I... I don't know what I would've done without you."

Aaron leaned in closer, their faces inches apart. "You don't have to thank me, Ein. We're in this together."

Before Ein could respond, Aaron closed the gap between them, their lips meeting in a gentle, heartfelt kiss. For a moment everything else faded away and all that mattered was the connection they shared.

From the kitchen Kawaii~Chan happened to glance into the living room and saw them. Her eyes widened, and a high-pitched squeal of delight escaped her lips. "Oh my gosh! They're kissing!"

Ein pulled away from Aaron, his face flushed. "Kawaii~Chan!"

She continued to fangirl, oblivious to his embarrassment. Without thinking Ein grabbed a throw pillow and hurled it at her, smacking her square in the face.

Kawaii~Chan stumbled back, laughing even as she tried to regain her balance. "Totally worth it!"

Everyone else in the kitchen turned to see what the commotion was about and Garroth shook his head with a smile. "Alright, everyone, let's focus. We have a plan to discuss."

As the group returned to their discussion, Ein and Aaron shared a small, amused smile. Despite the chaos they both felt a sense of relief and comfort in having finally shared their feelings with each other.

...

Later that evening, Aaron returned home, only to be greeted by his father's furious voice echoing through the grand foyer.

"Where have you been?" his father bellowed, his face flushed with anger. "You were supposed to come home with your security detail! Do you have any idea how irresponsible you're being?"

Aaron squared his shoulders, meeting his father's gaze with a calm determination. "I was helping a friend with an issue. He needed me and I wasn't going to leave him alone."

His father's expression darkened, his eyes narrowing. "A friend? Your so-called friends are nothing but trouble, Aaron. You're jeopardizing your future, your safety—"

"I'm not jeopardizing anything," Aaron cut in, his voice steady but firm. "I'm doing what I believe is right and if you can't understand that then maybe you don't know me as well as you think you do."

For a moment his father seemed taken aback, the intensity of Aaron's words hanging in the air. But the anger quickly returned and he shook his head in frustration.

"This conversation isn't over," his father warned, turning on his heel and marching away, leaving Aaron standing alone.

...

The next morning as Aphmau and Ein walked into school, the hallways buzzed with gossip. Whispers of Balto's expulsion and Ein's breakdown from the previous day filled the air.

Ein kept his head high, determined not to let the rumors get to him. He had faced worse before and had learned to push through.

Aphmau, however, was less inclined to ignore the murmurs. Every time she caught someone saying something mean about Ein, she shot them a glare so fierce it silenced them immediately.

"Let them talk," Ein said quietly, noticing her protective stance. "They don't matter."

Aphmau nodded but continued to keep a vigilant eye, ready to defend her brother at a moment's notice. "I know. But they need to understand that messing with you means dealing with me."

Ein smiled, appreciating her fierce loyalty. Together they made their way to their lockers, determined to face the day with their heads held high.

...

Aaron was nervously standing by his locker, deep in thought about all the things that have happened these last couple of months. His mind was a whirlwind of emotions—his growing feelings for Ein, the weight of his secret as an Ultima werewolf, and the tension with his father. He sighed, running a hand through his hair, trying to find some clarity amidst the chaos.

As he glanced around, his eyes landed on a nearby poster advertising the upcoming homecoming dance. The bright colors and cheerful design contrasted sharply with his current mood, but it also sparked a determination within him. This was his chance to do something normal, to take a step forward with Ein. He was finally going to ask him out to the dance.

With renewed resolve, Aaron pushed himself away from the locker and made his way through the bustling hallways. He spotted Ein by his locker, talking to Aphmau. Aaron took a deep breath, steeling himself for what he was about to do.

"Hey Ein," Aaron called out as he approached. Aphmau stepped aside, giving them some space.

Ein turned to face him, curiosity in his eyes. "Hey, Aaron. What's up?"

Aaron hesitated for a moment, then plunged ahead. "I was wondering if you'd like to go to the homecoming dance with me..as... as my date."

Ein's eyes widened in surprise, and for a moment, he seemed at a loss for words. He shifted on his feet, his mind racing to find the right response.

"U-Um, well, I mean... yeah, I guess that sounds... cool?" He winced inwardly at his awkwardness. "I mean, yes, I'd like that. Going to the dance with you, I mean. As your date."

Aaron chuckled softly, relieved by Ein's acceptance despite the awkward delivery. "Great. I'm looking forward to it."

Aphmau's smile widened as she gave Ein a supportive pat on the shoulder. "You guys are going to have a great time. I'm so happy for you both."

Ein nodded, his cheeks slightly flushed.

"Yeah, thanks, Aphmau." He glanced at Aaron, a small, genuine smile forming on his lips. "Thanks for asking me, Aaron."

Aaron's own smile grew warmer. "Of course, Ein. It'll be fun. We'll make some good memories."

As they walked to their next classes, Ein couldn't help but feel a mix of nerves and excitement. Despite his social awkwardness, he was genuinely looking forward to the dance and the chance to spend more time with Aaron.

...

As Ein walked to his next class, his mind replayed the kiss he had shared with Aaron on the couch the previous day. The warmth of Aaron's lips, the gentleness of his touch—it had been a moment of pure happiness. Now with the homecoming dance on the horizon, Ein couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement. He was going to the dance with Aaron, his feelings finally out in the open.

However his happiness was short-lived. The thought of his father being at large cast a dark shadow over his thoughts. Ein's heart tightened with fear. His father had always been a looming threat, but now with the possibility of him targeting his loved ones, the danger felt more immediate and terrifying.

He thought of Aphmau, always so supportive and protective and Aaron, who had become so important to him. The idea of either of them getting hurt because of him was unbearable. Ein's steps slowed as he felt the weight of his fear pressing down on him.

He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. He had to stay strong, not just for himself but for those he cared about. They had already faced so much together, and he knew they would stand by him through this as well. Despite his fear Ein resolved to protect his loved ones, no matter what it took.
