Chapter 22: Seriously ?! Dragons ?
Percy PoV
"Potter, do you want a tissue to cry for your parents?"
"Forget about Harry," Hermione told him, dragging him by the shoulders.
I felt that Harry was feeling bad.
His life in the castle had become a real ordeal, since the release of Rita Skeeter's article.
The latter had come out a few days earlier, and as expected, we were not spared.
On this article - or rather this rag - all our answers had been transformed into long sentences.
Since the article came out, Harry and I had been mocked by the other students, and we were not alone.
Hermione, who had absolutely nothing to do with it, got mixed up in the story.
Harry quickly lost his temper in the face of this situation.
Hermione, for her part, was content to ignore it, not wanting to give the satisfaction of answering to others.
"Hey Jackson, aren't you too scared so far away from your mother? My dad and I bet on how long you and Potter would last."
"Come closer, Malfoy, and we'll see who's going to be scared. Has your dad changed his shorts, by the way?"
Malfoy turns crimson and goes in the other direction.
As we walked through the corridors, under the usual mockery, Hermione brought up the subject.
Not the subject.
THE subject.
"Harry, we know it makes you sad not to talk to him anymore! And so does he!"
"I have nothing to say to him, and that doesn't make me sad!"
Hermione looks at me and I nod my head, making her understand that there's nothing we can do about it. It's up to them to settle this dispute.
The first task was getting dangerously close.
Between classes, the spell classes with Hermione, in which Harry had taken part, and those with Dumbledore, time was passing at an alarming rate.
There was only a week left before the event.
It was Saturday, and Hermione had persuaded Harry to go to Hogsmeade, the neighboring village.
So I decided to go and visit with them.
We were going down the road to get there, Harry under his cloak of invisibility, not wanting to show up and be subject to comments from others.
As we walked down the central alley, a woman came storming out of a pub.
As Hermione pushes herself to avoid her, I don't move, forcing her to stop.
I see Hermione entering the pub, probably followed by Harry.
"What do you want? Oh! Hello, Percy, how are you? My article was to your liking?"
"Quite well. You missed the part where you announce my fear of what awaits me."
She looks at me, incomprehensible.
"Ah yes, you could have added something else... that I'm mentally unstable maybe? Especially when my friends are attacked, if you know what I mean."
"Is that a threat? I can destroy your life if I want to!"
"I wish you courage. Now there will be two of us to play. Let's see who will succeed first."
And I'll move over, letting her pass.
I go into the pub to meet Hermione and Harry, sitting further away in the middle of a discussion with Hagrid and ... Moody.
"Destroy him."
"Nyx, it doesn't work like that, he's still a teacher. If I act, I would be fired..."-
"It wouldn't be the first time if I'm not mistaken..."
"...and I wouldn't be able to help Harry."
"Anyway... In the meantime I have some juicy news!"
"I'm listening to you."
"Do you remember our last discussion? The enemy too powerful etc?"
"Yes?"
"You will have to be more vigilant during this tournament, because he will certainly take advantage of it to kill you without too much effort."
"Great. Really great. Any other news like that?"
"No! But I feel like I'm going to have a lot of fun!"
"Great."
I walk to the table, from which Moody and Hagrid were leaving.
While crossing me, Hagrid catches me on the shoulder.
"Come to my cabin tonight at midnight."
And he walks away in heavy steps.
I sit down at the table.
"What were you doing, Percy?"Harry asks me.
"I was talking to our mutual friend, Rita Skeeter. Now she's really pissed off."
Hermione sighs.
"She's going to do everything she can to ruin our lives."
"Yes, but she certainly has things to hide too. It's up to us to find out what. What did Hagrid and Moody want?"
"Hagrid wants me to go to his cabin tonight at midnight. I wonder why." Answer Harry.
"We'll have to hurry, the meeting with Sirius will take place at one o'clock,"says Hermione.
About ten minutes before midnight, Harry and I find ourselves, him under his cape, well decided to go to see Hagrid.
"Percy... We didn't think about it but you can't come under the cape, you're too tall!"
"Do not worry. I manage. Let's go, let's go."
Moving quietly was one of the demigods' basic training exercises.
Without difficulty, me and my cousin arrived at the hut.
I knock on the door.
"Is that you, Harry, Percy?"
"Yes"
We slip inside the hut and Harry takes off his cape.
"What's up?"Ask for Harry.
"I have something to show you."
Hagrid is overexcited.
Harry casts a suspicious glance at me.
He had told me about the rare times he had seen Hagrid in such an overexcited state.
And that doesn't bode well.
"Come with me."
Harry tries to answer, but Hagrid doesn't listen to him and walks outside in heavy footsteps.
He heads for the coach of Beauxbatons, knocks on the door, and waits.
A few seconds later, the school principal comes out of the coach and they exchange a few words, then head off into the forbidden forest.
We follow them, keeping our distance.
Then after a long moment of walking in deep silence, shouts can be heard.
Followed by roars.
We catch up with Hagrid and the women who had stopped behind a tree, and we look over the bushes.
Dragons.
Eight enormous dragons stood there, spitting flames, roaring, making the ground tremble under their heavy legs.
"I understand Hagrid's excitement better."
Harry had removed his head from the cloak.
"He loves dragons."
"They need to be calmed down!"
"STUPEFY!"
Jets of light go off from several wands, exploding on the scales of the dragons.
Wizards that I hadn't seen until now as they look so small master the dragons.
One of them comes to start a conversation with Hagrid, and I recognize him. It is Charlie, Ron's brother.
"Is it for the tournament? Are they going to have to fight them?"Ask Hargrid.
"Just go ahead, I think. There's two for each team."
"Except Percy..."
Charlie looks serious.
"Yes, he does. He'll have to face two dragons alone. How's Harry doing?"
"He's fine."
"Let's hope he's still okay after fighting this."
"Come on, Percy, let's go. We've seen enough."
I watch my cousin put his cape back on his head and I hear him walking away.
I look at the dragons one last time and...
Impossible.
Some of the dragons stare at me, and I swear their eyes shine with a silvery glow.
But when I blink my eyes to see better, the dragons are as normal as can be, spitting flames and roaring.
I turn away from the dragons and, without a glance back, start running to join my cousin.
Harry PoV
I press the pace. I have only fifteen minutes left before the appointment with Sirius.
Suddenly, I am tackled to the ground.
In shock, I fall backwards and my cape lifts, before coming back to cover me.
I look around me and I see Percy, a finger on his mouth, intimidating me into silence.
"Who is there!" exclaims a voice.
I avert my cousin's eyes and I see Karkaroff.
"Who is there?" Ask him again.
I remain motionless and silent.
Then Karkaroff starts walking again, disappearing into the darkness.
I get up slowly, beside Percy.
"Sorry", makes me this last one. "But you were about to run into him."
"Could you see me while I had the cloak?"
"Not directly, but you can see a light refraction around your cape if you pay attention. Your cape glowed in the glow of Karkaroff's wand."
"Thank you for that."
Percy nods his head.
"Let's go, it's almost time."
