Ch. 6: What's happening?
"It's so good to see you again! You shouldn't disappear for so long!"
"Misty's been busy with work."
"And Ash's been busy with writing."
"Oh, you two." Delia giggled. She sat down after she served the coffee. "I guess everything is going well with you."
"It is." Ash exchanged a quick look with Misty. "Say, is dad home?"
"He's upstairs in his office." Delia continued in a lower voice, "pretending to work while he's just watching The Simpsons."
Ash let a chuckle and got up. "I'll go see him upstairs, then."
"Tell me if he's gotten more coffee!" Delia shouted to Ash who as walking upstairs.
"Give the man a break, mom!" Ash shouted back and disappeared upstairs.
"In your dreams." Delia shook her hand. "Men should never be given breaks."
"I agree." Misty smiled.
"Of course! You and I understand each other. We're in the same situation!" Delia laughed.
"I think..."
Delia sat beside Misty. "Tell me, are you pregnant?"
"Huh? No!" Misty chuckled. To say that she's just lost her virginity three weeks ago... this is disturbing. "Why are you asking?"
"You just have this... aura around you." Delia looked her up and down. "It's like you're glowing!"
"Oh."
"I told Reese she was pregnant with her daughter before she even knows!" Delia nodded. "I'm always right."
"Well, I can't really be pregnant, you see..." Misty cleared her throat. "Unless you think I gained weight and you're trying to look for a nice way to say it."
"Gaining weight is Ash's thing, dear." Delia shook her head. "You just have the glow, that's why I said that."
Misty rubbed her cheek. "Maybe it's just the creams I've been using lately."
"Noooo." Delia sighed. She smiled. "This is a natural glow! It's something you don't get from cosmetics!"
"Maybe I did get it from cosmetics."
"And I thought I was never wrong when it comes to catching pregnancies!" Delia put her finger on her chin. "It worked with both Reese and Lana!"
"La-oh, right." Okay, so Lana is pregnant. Misty didn't know. She's been out of Ash's life for a year. Not a problem. She'll pretend she knew.
"Lana thought she'd hide it!" Delia smiled. "But it can't be hidden."
"Uh..."
"And I knew she had a boy! I told her but she wouldn't believe me. The day of the delivery proved me right!"
She gave birth already... Misty wondered what excuse Ash gave to justify her absence during the occasion.
"And Ash, the last baby!" Delia giggled. "His grandmother still remembers you! She keeps asking when you are getting married."
"Well..." Misty licked her lips. She's asking herself the same question.
"How about you two take a week or two off and go see Grandma? It's quite calm at her place." Delia whispered, "And she prefers Ash over everyone else."
"I'll see if I can work things out back at office."
"Wonderful! Just be careful with Ash in the island." Delia sipped her coffee. "There are women wearing bikinis going everywhere."
"Oh." She was starting to bore Misty, but the redhead got use to it. Delia talked too much. She and Bridget talk so much it starts hurting the ears at some point.
"I was one of them a long time ago!" Delia giggled. "Did I tell you how I met Ash's father? I was doing tourism and I ended up getting married and staying there for six years!"
Delia stopped talking when she spotted Ash walking downstairs. Misty sighed in relief.
"Did he get more coffee, then?"
"No, he didn't."
"Oh, good." Delia picked up the empty coffee cups and got up. "So, are you going to stay for lunch? Or the weekend maybe?"
"You're escalating quickly, mom."
"Stay this weekend!"
Misty couldn't deny she liked the weekends at the Ketchum's. She'd do nothing except for being a guest, sit cross-legged in the garden and take bubble baths. Delia never let her do anything around the house, and it didn't matter if she didn't let her because she doesn't trust her 'house managing skills' (Ash said that's the real reason).
Usually, Ash never refuses a weekend at his parents', but he did this time. "Maybe next time. We should go back to Celadon city. I'm working on something."
"Really?" She sounded disappointed. Misty was disappointed too. She wanted to stay.
"Yeah."
"Alright, then."
Delia followed the two to the door. "You owe me a week of staying over, now."
"A week?"
"It's doubled because of penalties."
Ash chuckled. He hugged his mom quickly. "We'll see you soon."
"Take care, okay?" Delia gave Misty a quick hug too.
"Will do."
"Bye! Drive safe!"
Right when Misty was about to get her helmet, Ash handed her car keys.
"You're driving my father's car since you don't have a license for the bike."
Misty turned around. She pointed at Mr. Ketchum's car. "The Mercedes?"
"We're taking it." Ash got on his bike, revving it. He put on his helmet. "Stay right behind me, okay? I won't speed up."
"Euuuh... okay, I think." Misty headed to the car. She unlocked it and got inside. From the many buttons, she managed to switch the car on.
She put her hands on the black leathery steering wheel. "Okay, Misty. Don't fangirl. It's real. You're driving a Mercedes."
Ash gave a sign of his hand.
"What's happening with Ash I'll never know..." Misty turned on the radio, though. She could enjoy this luxurious ride while she's at it.
Ash took off and Misty took off right after.
