Chapter 7

A. N. - This one's for you watsonvalerie2624! I know it doesn't have everything you wanted but you'll get that too💘

Mishti, Kunal and Kuhu turned in the direction of the voice. They saw Abir walking towards them, red heart balloons in one hand and a bouquet of flowers in another. He handed them over to Jugnu who had come running from the kitchen at Abir's scream. Anger surged through Mishti's veins as tears of betrayal pooled in her eyes at the sight of Abir.

"Yeh kya kar rahi ho Mishti? Tumne Kuhu ko thappad kyu mara?" He demanded, shock covering his features. Mishti stared at him, agape.

"Dekho Abir, it's better you don't fall into this. Yeh mere aur Kuhu ke beech ka mamla hai. So let us handle it," she managed to warn calmly before her erratic emotions took over her senses. She took in a sharp breath before turning towards Kuhu again. But Abir had clearly decided to not give in. He still thought that if he left it to the two of them, the fight would only escalate.

"Nahi Mishti. Yeh iss ghar ka mamla hai. So I will interfere," he asserted. Mishti lost her cool. She pinched the bridge of her nose and continued to take deep breaths before turning towards Abir. But nothing seemed to calm her down.

"Fine Abir. Toh sunno!" She said a little too harshly. "Kuhu ne deliberately apna pair mere raaste mei rakha taaki mei gir jaao," she unfolded through gritted teeth. Abir gaped at her, horrified at the revelation. Before his mind could form conclusions, Kuhu jumped in.

"Nahi bro. Mishti jhooth bol rahi hai," she lied shamelessly while Mishti and Kunal stared at her in disbelief. "Maine aisa kuch nahi kia hai," she defended herself. Abir looked towards Mishti in utter bewilderment but found her burning in anger instead.

"Mishti, I think tumhe koi misunderstanding hui hai. Bro aisa kyu karegi?" He questioned. Mishti was shocked to hear Abir's words would be an understatement. How was he still defending Kuhu? Had he forgotten what had happened 2 months ago and how they had come out of it? But before she could say anything, Kunal came forward to speak on Mishti's behalf.

"Woh isliye kyunki bahar galti se Mishti ne vomit kar di thi and some of it splashed on Kuhu's designer shoes and heels," Kunal let out and turned towards Kuhu. "Mishti nahi, tum jhooth bol rahi ho," he acussed her. "Hum dono ne dekha tha ki tumne kya kia. Mishti se abhi maafi maango Kuhu," Kunal ordered. Kuhu stared wide-eyed at her husband who was taking Mishti's side as opposed to hers. With no intention of apologizing, Kuhu glared at Mishti. Both Kunal and Abir were a witness to this. "I SAID APOLOGIZE TO HER NOW," Kunal roared. Kuhu shuddered at his tone. Mishti's neck twisted in his direction while Abir was astonished at the fury in his voice. He couldn't comprehend the reason behind Kunal's sudden change in behavior.

"Rehne do Kunal. Jab Kuhu ka bro uske saath hai toh uss se koi nahi jeet sakta hai. Jo log khud jhooth bolte hai, unhe baaki sab bhi jhoothe hi lagte hai," Mishti uttered in an absolutely doleful voice as she bore her eyes right into Abir's hazel orbs. The amount of pain that Abir saw on Mishti's face split his heart into two but even though he tried, he couldn't understand the meaning behind her words. He had never seen her so crestfallen. With one last glance at Abir, Mishti ran up to their room as she let her suppressed tears flow freely.

"Yeh aapne thik nahi kia Bhai. Jab aapne mujhse favour maanga tha, I didn't question you. Lekin jo aapne kia that was completely unjust towards Mishti. Lekin aaj mei aapse puchta hu. Kyu Bhai? Aap pichle do mahino se Mishti se aur hum sabse jhooth kyu bol rahe ho?" He questioned firmly. Abir gaped at Kunal, unable to grasp his questions.

"Yeh tu kya bol raha hai Nan.." he halted mid-sentence and his eyes enlarged as he contemplated what Kunal might mean. "Tu aur Mishti kaha gaye the?" He counter-questioned.

"NGO," Kunal replied. One word out of Kunal's lips and Abir's heart sank in remorse. He bolted towards his room, leaving a confused Kunal behind.

In Abir-Mishti's room

Mishti's tears hadn't stopped since the time she had turned her back towards Abir and ran up to their room. She kept wiping them off with the back of her hand as she paced between the cupboard and the bed. As soon as Abir reached the room, he stood stupefied at the door.

"Mishti," he gasped. "Yeh bag kyu pack kar rahi ho?" He asked, completely baffled. Mishti disregarded his question and continued to stuff her clothes into the bag. Once done, she closed the zip of the bag and put it on the ground. She was about to roll it out when Abir held her hand in a death grip.

"Kaha jaa rahi ho Mishti?" He asked in a firm tone. Mishti tried to wiggle her hand out of his grasp but failed miserably.

"Mera haath chodo Abir," she commanded, not looking at him. But Abir didn't oblige.

"Jab tak tum mujhe yeh nahi bata deti ki tum yeh bag lekar kaha jaa rahi ho, mei tumhara haath nahi chodunga," he affirmed. Mishti sighed and gave up.

"Ab mei Kuhu ke saath ek hi chhat ke niche nahi reh sakti hu Abir. Isliye mei Badepapa ke ghar jaa rahi hu," she disclosed. Abir's hold loosened around her hand as his pupils dilated in incredulity.

"Stop being immature Mishti," he huffed in annoyance. "Itni si baat ke liye tum ghar chodkar chali jaaogi? Mujhe chodkar chali jaaogi?" He asked disbelievingly. Mishti's eyes darted towards him.

"I'm being immature? Aur itni si baat?" She questioned quizzically. A pained expression covered her features. Abir was close to tears but he didn't let it show. "Yeh itni si baat nahi hai Abir. Aur waise bhi mei kaha rehti hu usse tumhe kya fark padta hai? Pichle do mahino mei toh tumhe meri yaad nahi aayi. Fir aaj aisa kya badal gaya Abir?" She clobbered him with questions as a fresh set of tears welled up in her eyes. She gulped them down and continued, "Aur kyu rahu mei yaha par? Jab mera apna pati mujhse dur bhaag raha hai, mujhse jhooth bol raha hai, toh mei yaha rehkar kya karu Abir?" Abir looked away in guilt while Mishti tried her best to maintain her composure. "Jab iss ghar ke kuch log meri khushi dekhkar jealous feel karte hai aur meri jaan lena chahte hai, TOH KYU RAHU MEI YAHA PAR?" She yelled as her hormones took over her senses. Abir's head shot up at her words. All Mishti wanted was to get away from Abir and this house as soon as possible. She was tired of all the thoughts that were circling around her mind and desperately needed to get rid of them. The more she stayed near Abir and Kuhu, the more her thoughts would harrow her mind. So that is what she did. She shoved her hand out of Abir's hand. She pulled the trolley of her bag out and started to walk away. But was it all so easy? As Mishti was about to step out of the room, Abir clutched her wrist again. Mishti twisted her torso to look at him.

"Kya kaha tumne?" He queried as Mishti's words constantly rang in his ears.

"Kuch nahi Abir. Please mujhe jaane do," she pleaded as her level of tolerance reached the brim. She was mentally exhausted and the last thing she wanted right now was to answer Abir's questions.

"Nahi Mishti. Tumne kaha ki koi tumhari jaan lena chahta hai. Kya matlab tha uss baat ka?" He prodded further as his heart escalated in fear. Someone wanted to harm Mishti and she wasn't even letting him know the name of that person?

"Maine kaha na Abir. Kuch nahi. Ab agar tumhare sawaal khatam ho gaye ho toh mera haath chodo," she said, her anger a thin line away from wearing out.

"Nahi Mishti, batao mujhe. Kaun hai woh?" Abir demanded. He was as stubborn as Mishti and wasn't going to budge until she told him the name of that person.

On losing all her patience due to Abir's ceaseless bugging, Mishti shouted, "KUHU." As the word left Mishti's mouth, her wrist slipped out of Abir's hold. His face paled, as if he had seen some ghost while Mishti tried to calm her raging nerves.

"Last year, Janmashtami waale din jab mei uss human pyramid se giri thi, woh koi accident nahi tha Abir. Kuhu ne jaan bujhkar uss pyramid ke ek ladke ke pair ko push kia tha taaki mei gir jaao," she dropped the bomb. The memories of that day flashed in front of Abir's eyes. Mishti lying unconscious in a pool of blood wasn't a sight that Abir wanted to witness. Ever. It still sent a chill down his spine and filled his heart with terror.

"I'm sure tumhe mujhpar yakeen nahi hoga Abir. Kyunki tumhe Kuhu toh kabhi galat lagti hi nahi hai," Mishti seethed in anger. Abir's heart punctured at her cold words. Mishti fished her phone out of her purse and searched for the video that she had seen just a while ago. "Isliye yeh lo proof," she said and handed her phone out for Abir. With trembling hands, Abir took her phone and pressed the play button. The video started with a smiling Abir and a cheerful Mishti as they climbed towards the top of the pyramid. As they tried to balance themselves at the top, the camera focused on Mishti and Abir when she confessed her love for him and blew him away. A miniscule smile spread across Abir's face. He still remembered that confession like it just happened yesterday. Abir made a face as he realized no one heard Mishti while she broke the matki and left Abir speechless. She laughed as he lost the challenge and chirped like a happy kid on winning. They both shared an eye lock while the camera shifted towards the others who were cheering for them. What Abir saw next left him shocked. An enraged Kuhu, burning in jealousy, came out of nowhere and she pushed a guy's leg. The entire pyramid came toppling down. As the video ended, Mishti's terrified look flashed in front of Abir's eyes as he helplessly saw her fall and roll down on the ground. Her unconscious form with blood oozing out of her forehead haunted him. He looked up from the screen and towards Mishti. Tears were streaming down her face.

"Uss din toh mei bach gayi thi Abir. Aur aaj Kunal ne mujhe bacha lia. Lekin kab tak? Kab tak koi mujhe protect karega Abir? Agar baat sirf meri hoti toh mei kuch nahi bolti. Lekin ab baat sirf meri nahi hai Abir. Agar aaj Kunal mujhe nahi bachata toh shayad tumhara sapna tut jaata. Aur mei aisa nahi hone de sakti hu Abir. I can't," she voiced out as more tears rolled down her cheeks. Abir was too dazed to react but he had been alert when Mishti talked about his dream. However, he was completely clueless of what her words meant.

"Kaunsa sapna?" He managed to ask. But before Mishti could reply, her body gave up. Her vision turned blurry and everything around her started to rotate in circles. Abir saw the stagger in Mishti's stance. He rushed towards her and caught her in his arms before her limp figure could hit the ground.

"MISHTIII," Abir screamed as panic seeped through his heart. "Mishti, aakhein kholo," he tapped on her cheek but all in vain. "Angry Chorni, utho yaar. Tum aise behosh nahi ho sakti ho. Utho Mishti," he cried vulnerably but his pleas didn't seem to work. He quickly picked Mishti up in his arms and zoomed out of the room when he bumped into Kunal. Seeing an unconscious Mishti and his brother's petrified face, Kunal understood what must have happened and they both jogged downstairs. Badimaa and Badepapa were talking to Parul when they saw Abir and Kunal storming down the stairs. They were stunned to be welcomed with Mishti's lifeless form in Abir's arms. Badepapa called Abir out but he was too worried to listen to him or notice their presence. He barged out of the door and towards the car with Kunal in tow. Badimaa, Badepapa and Parul also followed them.

In Kunal's car

Kunal was driving while Abir sat behind with Mishti's head in his lap. He relentlessly tried to wake Mishti up but she didn't pay any heed to his implorations.

"Kunal, jaldi chala na!" He adjured in a panic-stricken voice, all types of unpleasant thoughts filling his mind. As soon as Kunal parked the car outside the hospital, Abir got out with Mishti in his arms and dashed inside the hospital.

"DOCTOR! DOCTOR!" he screeched at the top of his lungs. A lady doctor spotted him and rushed towards them. As soon as she caught sight of Mishti, her eyes widened. She immediately called for a wardboy with a stretcher and Abir placed Mishti on it.

Seeing a fearful Abir staring at Mishti's motionless form, the doctor assured, "Don't worry. In her condition, this is normal. She'll be fine." Abir gaped at the doctor as if she had just spoken in Latin.

"Ky-kya matlab?" He stuttered.

"I mean it's normal for a woman to fall unconscious when she's pregnant. I'll just check her up and when she gains consciousness, you can take her home," she said with a smile and walked towards a room with the wardboy strolling Mishti's stretcher behind her. Kunal, Parul, Badepapa and Badimaa who had been a witness to this revelation had humungous smiles plastered on their faces. Astounded, Abir stood glued to his position, staring at Mishti's retreating stretcher as the only words that resonated in his ears were, "She's pregnant." Kunal came to his Bhai and hugged him in delight. All of them were too overjoyed at the news to sense the torment that loomed in Abir's heart.

"Congratulations Bhai. Aap Papa banne wale ho," Kunal gushed in excitement.

"Haan Abir. Aaj tumhara bachpan ka sapna pura ho gaya," Parul added with tearful eyes.

"Aakhir Bal Gopal ne tumhari baat sunn hi li Abir. Ab jald hi ghar mei ek nanhe se bache ki kilkaari gunjegi," Badimaa adjoined, overwhelmed. But Abir's expressions remained the same. Without another word, he walked out of there, leaving behind 4 surprised faces.

Abir walked out of the hospital, needing some fresh air to breathe. The disclosure of Mishti's pregnancy had knocked the oxygen out of his lungs. Only one memory battered his mind and tortured his heart.

*Flashback*

After the doctor had told Abir about Mishti's internal injuries and her chances of conceiving, Abir was completely shattered. He stayed as far away as possible from Mishti because he knew that one glance at his face and she would know that something was terribly amiss with him. He did not go back to their room until Mishti was asleep. Sleep was a far relative to him that night. His tear glands had dried up but the heaviness in his heart still felt the same. But he prioritised Mishti above his own pain. He left home before she woke up in the morning and went straight to the hospital.

In the doctor's cabin

"Abir, jaise maine kal tumse phone pe kaha tha, Mishti ke Maa banne ke chances bilkul na ke barabar hai. Agar usne conceive kar bhi lia toh woh 9 months tak baby ko carry nahi kar paayegi. And if by God's grace, she completes the term, koi guarantee nahi hogi ki Maa aur bacha dono bach jaaye. Aur pregnancy mei bahut saare complications honge. Unn nau mahino mei kuch bhi ho sakta hai Abir. Mishti ki jaan ko baby ki wajah se khatra bhi ho sakta hai." the doctor put forth all the possibilities and Abir's heart plummeted in dread. He could survive anything but losing Mishti would kill him. "So, it would be better if y'all don't plan a baby right now," she advised. Abir just shook his head, unable to speak a word.

"Yeh kuch medicines hai," she forwarded a prescription to him. "Mishti ki injuries ke liye. Give them to her and observe her. Agar phir se usse stomach ache ho toh usse immediately admit karna padega aur shayad operate bhi karna padega. But if these medicines work fine, her injuries will heal on their own. Don't worry Abir, your wife will be fine." the doctor assured and passed him a sympathetic smile. Abir took the prescription from her hand, gratefully nodded his head and left from there.

*Flashback ends*

"Nahi. Aisa nahi ho sakta hai. Mish-Mishti pregnant hai? I-I can't let this happen. I can't lose her. NOOO!" He lamented and fell down to his knees on the ground with a thud in the garden outside the hospital. He kept his head in his hands and sobbed inconsolably as all the times he had almost lost Mishti skimmed through his mind. Abir sat there for a while until something clicked in his brain. He wiped off his tears and headed back inside.

Outside Mishti's room

Kunal, Badimaa, Badepapa and Parul were gathered outside the room while Meenakshi, Varsha, Jasmeet and Kuhu had also reached there when Abir came back. Abir's fury rose as he saw Kuhu seated beside Badimaa. Taking a deep breath, he walked towards them. All heads turned towards Abir at his arrival. But before any of them could question him about his whereabouts, the doctor came out of Mishti's room.

"Mishti?" Abir asked with his heart in his mouth. The doctor had disquietude etched on her features.

"Filhaal toh Mishti thik hai. But I'm concerned about her wellbeing. Iss haalat mei itna stress thik nahi hai. Koi baat hai jo Mishti ko bahut zyada pareshaan kar rahi hai. Isliye woh achanak se behosh hogayi. Mr. Rajvansh, you need to be extremely mindful of her surroundings. Stress can prove to be harmful for the baby and the mother," she stated. Abir shut his eyes to calm the storm of anger combined with guilt that threatened to destroy to all his relationships with just one sentence.

"Kya mei usse mil sakta hu?" He asked as he opened his eyes. All he needed to see right now was whether Mishti was fine or not. He would deal with everything else later.

"Yes you can," the doctor said. Abir nodded and went inside. The doctor handed out a prescription.

"Yeh kuch medicines hai. Aap please inhe le aaiye," she said. Kunal took the prescription and headed towards the pharmacy of the hospital. The doctor left too while the others patiently waited outside for their turn to meet Mishti and congratulate her. After all, she had given them the best news of their lives.

It had just been few minutes since Abir went inside but Badimaa couldn't contain her excitement anymore. She was about to go in when Mishti came out with Abir behind her. Everyone smiled widely at the sight of the duo. Badimaa was about to go and hug Mishti when Mishti's words halted her in her tracks.

"Badepapa, kya mei aapke aur Badimaa ke saath Maheshwari house chal sakti hu?"
