ELYSE PIERCE THE GIRL who always was a ghost in her own life, the one she lived. Her father never being around her whole life, her mom always gone and her sister, Elaine Pierce who Elyse has to take care of since no one else does. After moving from Boston, Massachusetts to Los Angeles, California. Her life changes.

She meets a boy in her apartment complex, and her neighbor, who recently started a dojo. She joins and finds herself in the middle of a karate war. Her life that was already chaos, only worsened. The karate rivalry that Elyse was already deep in, only got more chaotic.

After crying until she fell asleep. After waiting for someone to finally hold her when she was at her worst, the wait paid off. So when she meets Miguel Diaz. Her life gets somewhat better, she finds herself trying to know what love is, and in the midst of that he gets with Samantha Larusso, who is everything Elyse wasn't.

Sam had a good family, she was perfect. She thought maybe going into karate would change her life completely, and she was right. Just not in the way she'd hoped. Elyse thought she always deserved the worst, she blamed everything on herself. Her dad leaving? Her fault. Her once good life that turned to disaster? Her fault. Her mom telling her that was true, and that Elyse was the reason her father wasn't there.
