Chapter 23

Note: If things are in italics it means that the people are not actually speaking in English.

Damian's POV
I remember going down. I remember the pain in my abdomen. I remember a female scream.

I remember death.

But this, this is not death. This is stinging and burning and pain. My whole body is screaming at me. Nothing has ever been as painful as this.

I touch the bottom of this hellish pool with my foot and push up. The air in my lungs burns too.

A woman tries to help me up. She grab my hand and the stinging intensifies. Snapping her neck is easy. Another woman tries and she gets thrown into the nearest wall.

"Damian, stop this."

I turn. The person looks and sounds familiar, I just have no idea who they are. I go for her eyes, but I am quickly blocked. She pushes me to the ground and holds me down with her foot.

"I know your memory isn't in the best place now. I remember when I got out of the pit I didn't even remember my first name."

"Who are you and why are you holding me captive?"

"Damian, I'm not holding you captive. I'm Blair Blake." Her name does register. It does not bring back any overly positive or negative feelings. Wait...more than positive is definitely present. She also seems rather hurt by me not recognizing her.

"I do not believe you are a enemy, so for now we are allies. Do not make me question that assessment."

Blair wipes her eyes. "Of course you don't really remember. You just got out of the pit. What was I expecting?"

"I have no idea. All I know is you share knowledge on the liquid I was just in and given your uniform, have a place of power here. I refuse to waste my time standing here soaking in pure pain."

She looks down on her own uniform as if she forgot she was wearing it. It was pure black expect for some gold markings across the breastplate. The markings are fimilar to me, I just do not know why.

"My uniform, right. You need to change. Follow me."

She leads me through the many tunnels of the underground cave we are in. Then to the upstairs. It is all disturbingly fimilar.

She guides me to a small room. There is a uniform almost matching hers across the bed, except that it also has a cape the color of blood.

"Get changed quickly and then come find me." Blair then steps forward and holds me for a moment. "I'm so glad your back."

"Never touch me again."

"Some things never change." She puts her hand out as if she is going to try and touch my hair. I slap her hand away.

"What did I say about touching me?"

She smiles at me once again and leaves the room. It took her long enough.

The burning had stopped but as soon as I start removing my clothes my skin starts to sting again. I throw everything to the ground. As I throw down the black over coat something small and silver slips out of the pocket and skids across the floor.

I pick it up. It is a silver necklace with a butterfly charm on it. It immediately brings me a sense of comfort, but I do not know why. I place it on the bed and begin to put on my uniform piece by piece. It feels as if it was custom made for my body. They is a small compartment on the wrist where I place the necklace. I feel that going anywhere without it would be a mistake. Now I suppose I must find Blair.

I leave the room and begin to walk. My body seems to know where it is going without me thinking about it. I know I have walked through these halls before. I feel memories of this place nagging on the edge of my brain, waiting to be freed. I finally stop at two large, oak doors. I push them open to a dining hall. There are three people at the table. Blair another woman, and a man.

This woman has long dark hair with tan skin and cold eyes. The man holds himself like a king. He has a darken tan than the woman and colder eyes as well. At first glance he seems almost the same age as the woman but he has streaks of white and grey going all around his head.

"Damian," the woman chokes at. Like Blair she attempt to embrace me. I stop her.

"Who are you and why am I here?"

"Damian, I am your mother," She states in Arabic.

"Prove it."

"Talia, stop," The man commands. "He just came out of the Lazuraz pit. The fact that he is not attempting to end your life is impressive. I would expect nothing less from my heir."

Heir? I have no idea who this man is. That does not stop him from seemingly reading my thoughts.

"Damian, I am your Grandfather Ra's Al'gul. You were killed in battle but I brought you back for one purpose and purpose alone. To be a second in command and one day rule my empire. You are the demon's heir."

I drop down to one knee as memories come back to me. Memories of the League that will one day be mine. "Thank you, Grandfather. I am forever in debt to you."
