Chapter 7
Freja: "I thought you called me a nephilim."
Jace: "Because you saw us. And you have nephilim blood in your veins too. We don't know what you are. We can't explain it. Later on, we will have a conference about it and find a solution."
So basically I was a mix between a wanna-be-angel and a killer-creature. As weird as that sounds but it probably describes me pretty well. I love to help and to be good but if someone stands in my way, I won't hesitate to act. That can end with blood if I want to. I thought about all the tussles and fights I had, about all the scars I carried. I am not as innocent and vulnerable as I seem.
Jace: "I know it's a lot."
Freja: "Actually it's not. Don't worry. Go ahead. What conference?"
Jace: "Well if you say so... A conference of the leaders of the downworlders and us. You can attend if you want. I mean, it's about you."
Freja: "Vampires and werewolves are kinda demons too. Why don't you kill them?"
Jace looked confused but smiled.
Jace: "I like your attitude. You speak out what you think. We have a contract with them. They aren't allowed to kill mundanes. If they don't kill, we protect them. It's that easy. If they break the contract, we will kill them."
This evening...
We were sitting in the conference room. I sat next to Jace. Alec sat across the table, Magnus Bane, the high warlock of Brooklyn, next to him. The moment Magnus entered the room I knew I was going to like him. He was sassy, but honest and seemed loyal. Also you could clearly feel a connection between him and Alec. Next to him was the seelie queen and two of her followers. I wasn't sure about her. She looked very deceitful and conceited. Also she was probably younger than me, at least I thought that. Next to Jace was the leader of the pack of the werewolves, Luke. He was more silent than the others. The leader of the vampire clan hasn't arrived yet since the sun was still up. But half an hour later he arrived too. The moment he entered the room I couldn't look away. He was tall, muscular, had dark hair and dark eyes. Jace already told me his name before: Raphael. He sat down next to me. I could feel Jace grabbing onto my chair and pulling me closer to himself.
Raphael: "Sorry for the delay. You know, the sun... It would be nice if the next time we would start at a vampire-friendly time."
Magnus: "Don't worry Raphael. We didn't really start yet. It's nice to see you."
Seelie queen: "We should start now. Stop wasting my time for such an unimportant conference."
Alec: "I would not call it unimportant."
Seelie queen: "Then tell me what you want to discuss, Shadowhunter."
Alec: "What would you say if you found a person with the blood of a nephilim AND a downworlder?"
Luke: "That's not that uncommon."
Faerie queen: "See you're wasting my time." She wanted to stand up.
Alec: "The blood of every kind of downworlder. Faerie, Vampire, Werewolf, warlock."
Luke: "That, my friend, is not possible."
Jace: "It is. We double-checked."
Seelie queen: "Then we should kill it. It's better off dead."
I looked over to Jace and Alec. They looked at each other. Angry. Jace more than Alec. I could see he tensed all his muscles. I lightly touched his arm below the table with my hand. I wanted to let him know that it's okay. He looked at me and relaxed a bit.
Magnus: "Excuse me, but you should not say something like that. We are not supposed to judge. Alec, go ahead."
Alec: "No one is going to die. It's just that we need to react the correct way. And I mean reacting in a way like: support the person in every direction. Nephilim, vampire, werewolf, warlock and faerie."
Seelie queen: "You think I am a fool. A person like that does not exist."
Freja: "Oh I do exist."
I have listened for way too long. Jace told me to be silent. Being silent does not count to my strengths. He grabbed onto my knee below the table, squeezed it and looked at me.
Seelie queen: "Who are you to question my knowledge?"
Jace squeezed harder. I didn't dare to answer.
Alec: "Yeah it's her."
I just felt the looks. Disgusted looks by the werewolf and the seelie queen. Magnus looked pitying. The vampire just smiled.
Raphael: "It's not a bad thing. It may be new to us and probably new for you but that does not mean, that we should be afraid. I'm willing to help. I'll show you the world of the vampires. It would be a pleasure for me. Espero que te guste."
His voice was deep and comforting.
Seelie queen: "She needs to die."
Magnus: "I'm with Raphael. She's just a kid."
Hey, I'm right here. Don't speak about me like that. Jace still held onto me. I remained silent, as much as that hurt me.
Luke: "Okay fine. But she is going with me. She's a werewolf."
Alec: "No she's staying here. She's also a nephilim."
A discussion started, the only one who didn't participate was Raphael. He remained silent and watched them. I didn't want to listen anymore. Anger was rising up in my soul. My insides were burning. I took a deep breath.
Freja: "HEY, shut up. It's my decision. I'm not going with anyone. And I am not going to stay. I'm not a nephilim, nor a vampire, a faerie, a warlock or a werewolf. I'm nothing. Just let me go and live my life."
Jace: "You are more powerful than you think."
Freja: "Oh, I know that I am powerful. I know that I'm a kid in your eyes but that does not give any of you the right to decide over me. Don't you dare to ever do that again."
Magnus: "Oh sweetheart, you have a strong temper. You impress me. I'm with you. Sorry that we wanted to judge. It's up to you."
