Chapter 14
From the elderly people I heard that the mountains contain stones that fulfill your biggest dreams when you whisper it to them in the Moonlight of the full moon. It is said that they are a present from the old nordic gods. I began to search. It took me several hours until I found some stones. But they weren't the ones I was searching for. The stone I was searching for is dark black and those were all purple or brown.
I went even further. It became colder and the wind was strong. I needed to find that stone. When the sun was replaced by the moon I rested but couldn't sleep. I planned on being back before sunset. But the stones didn't want me to find them. I tried to fall asleep for two hours but it was just way to cold so I decided to continue my search. There was no possible chance I would find any magical stones tho. Everything looked black in the moonshine. And because it was that dark, it didn't take me too long to stumble over my own feet. I laid flat on my stomach. Great Freja, such a good idea. I closed my eyes.
When I opened them again I saw a little shimmer some inches away from me. What was that? When I reached it with my hand I could feel it's smooth surface. It was a gem. For sure still not the one I was searching for. They probably don't even exist. I just wanted the stories to be true. I sat up and concentrated on my hand. Some seconds later a flame appeared on it. It didn't hurt me. Some inches away I saw the stone. It was round, pretty small... and as black as the darkest night.
I immediately grabbed the pickaxe out of the backpack and started to knock the gem out. It took me about an hour. I did not want to damage it. After I succeeded I stood up, putting everything in my backpack. I was so tired and hoped I still had enough energy left to build a portal. It took me several minutes to do so but I did it. I was back in the bedroom of hotel Dumort. I let the backpack down, threw my jacket on the floor and fell into the bed. Sleep overcame as soon as I hit the mattress.
The next day I was on my way to Magnus. I decided to walk, I've had enough of portals for now. I knocked onto his door and Magnus opened immediately.
Magnus: "Sweetheart, we finished our training for now. Practice some more."
Freja: "I need your help in something else."
Magnus: "Come in, sit down."
I pulled out the stone and a ring, who still had place for a gem.
Magnus: "What is that?"
Freja: "It's a månestein. But that doesn't matter. I just need your help to transfer the stone onto the metal, infusing it, but with no damage."
Magnus: "You can build portals, could blow the whole world up, probably kill someone with your thoughts, but something that simple isn't possible. Let me do it."
I felt offended. How would I know how to do it if he didn't teach me? I can't google that. It just took him some seconds and the ring was complete. It looked pretty.
Magnus: "I never believed those were true. I heard stories about it and tried to find one myself but never did."
Freja: "They are a present of the nordic gods. If you aren't one of their children you are most likely not able to find it. But if you ever want to try it again: Just follow the moonshine. Thank you, Magnus. I appreciate what you did for me."
I stood up, left the apartment and walked back to the hotel. Fullmoon should happen tonight. I wanted to interact more with the vampires in the hotel. I found out about Simon Lewis. He was a daylighter and a close friend of some of those shadowhunters. He did not live here tho. But many other vampires did and they were loyal towards me because they knew who I was. They accepted me as one of them.
Right before midnight I went onto the roof. The moon shined bright and full, just like I hoped. I had the ring with me and laid it onto the floor. Then I kneeled in front of it. The black stone shimmered. The moonlight really activated it. From minute to minute it became brighter and soon it was fully white. It was ready for my wish.
I took it into my hand and raised it right in front of my mouth. I could think about a thousand wishes. I knew that it had it's boundaries. It couldn't bring back the dead so bringing my parents back wasn't an option. Wishing someone dead isn't possible too, so my uncle would stay alive. But that didn't matter because I did not wish for that anyway.
I began to whisper: "There is just one wish I desire. Let the sun be a part of Raphaels life again. Make him a daylighter." The gem became even brighter. It blended me and I needed to close my eyes. As I opened them again some minutes later it had turned back to black. I really hope it had worked. If Raphael would wear the ring it would make him a daylighter. He wasn't allowed to take it off in the sun tho so the next step would be to make it invisible when he wears it so no one knows about it and decides to steal it. I know that Raphael missed the sun, almost more than anything else. It hurt him to see me outside when it was day and he needed to stay right behind the door in the shadows. He showed me what happened when he placed his skin in the sunlight. Pain overcame him every single time. Hopefully that pain would be over now.
