Chapter 73- The Race Against Time

~

Author's Pov:

"This---" she paused, shaking her head in nervousness. Her expression was the exact same copy as Isabella Swan every time she spoke to Edward Cullen from Twilight. Speechless, more like not being able to put her feel into vocabulary. Worried that she'll make a fool out of herself. God, I never cared about others opinion so much. And Fidgety. She was super restless that she kept touching her wedding ring. Twisting it around as she kept looking at Kiaan who walked beside her.

He still was irritated at the lack of time management skills of hers but couldn't help but feel proud. Proud that his stone face was making her nervous. I should get angry more often to see this wild, loud cat turn into a mouse. If only he knew the exact reason behind her nervousness.

Ok, I could say something like, 'My eyes sparkle when I see you--' no, that sounds too cheesy. No, something---

"This what?" He asked. His voice flat, almost as if he doesn't care what she was going to say. He did care though, just didn't want to show it. Kiaan felt the need to remain cult with his replies for a littlw while.

"Oh, u-um." Her small confused eyes opened wide. She had forgotten what she was going to say. She looked away from him, keeping her brown gaze around the crowd, watching as people walked past wearing hideous clothes. Some had their faces covered in blood, not fully but enough to creep anyone out. Their white-ughh. White-shirts were dripping in the colour red, used to represent blood. And of course, a big bite around their neck, obviously they've been bit by a Vampire. How bloody, romantic. She thought sarcastically.

"Zoning out again. How beautiful." The way he sarcastically rolled the word 'beautiful,' around his tongue had nearly had Jaanvi drop on her feet. He said it in a British accent having her shocked and numb. Did he always speak like this or was I never paying attention? She drew her noticeable shocked face from his to the crowd, ducking her head in as tall people went by.

In a protective manner, Kiaan puts his hand around her shoulder, pulling her closer to himself so she doesn't bump into people. Tall people. She didn't look up, she didn't had to. She was too sure about whose hand it was. She recognized the large soft hand of his, her lips smiling.

"Stop smiling." He said, keeping a strong serious face as he looked ahead of himself, making his way through the crowd. "I'm still angry." He added rather quickly so she doesn't start over thinking and twisting his words into a negative way. She still smiled, even let out a heart full chuckle this time, putting her hand on his waist since it was awkward with her free hand bumping into his hard chest every time they walked. Her chuckle was warm, light sounded swelling up his heart with love. Once again.

"And I'm still happy." She replied, gazing at the floor trying to match up her pace with his fast speed.

"Yeah right." He muttered under his breath, looking away from her smiling lightly.

Jaanvi was more like a young child getting excited for even small rides. She even got Kiaan to win a teddy for her. A little yellow fluffy teddy was all she wanted from the whole little super market. They lined up, partly her, Kiaan just stood beside her-outside the line-she looked ahead of her to see she's around the twentieth person in line. This will take forever. She mentally groaned, looking at Kiaan to see him smiling. His eyes locked onto his phone screen.

"Why are you smiling?" She questioned, trying to get a glimpse of what he was so busy looking at. Hearing her voice, and feeling her warm breath close to him he locked his phone away quickly. Shoving into his pocket. She folded her arms across her chest, not looking very happy or satisfied.

"I'm still angry." He said just before she could spit out the irritation through her voice for once. She huffed, putting her hand up in the air only to drop them down, hitting her thighs. Hearing a little, defeated 'yeah right,' he gave her a smirk, this tiny lopsided smile.

The line slowly kept moving forward, Kiaan just couldn't wrap his head around why on earth would she want ice cream in such a windy weather. By now Jaanvi was sure of one thing, Kiaan knew thw weather of New York better than she did. She wrapped her hands around her bare arms, slightly rubbing them as she exhaled lightly.

He rolled his eyes, giving him another reason to get annoyed with her. What's the point of bringing the hoodie if you wouldn't carry it around with you? Pulling it over his head in a swift moment, he passed the warm woollen black sweatshirt to her. She wanted to argue but he left no room to argue with his stern look.

"What are you? Edward Cullen?" She joked, once her sleeveless arms were covered with the large sweatshirt, she pulled her hair out from underneath the sweatshirt, pushing the few strands away. She saw how he wore a light green shirt, it looked incredibly thin.

Kiaan walked away from her, leaving her all confused with her jaw touching the floor. I was only a minutes late. Why is he dragging the issue? He walked away from the tree covering them, standing under the sunlight for a split second, just locking his gaze with hers.

Ok? Her husband walks back to her with full attitude, almost like doing a ramp walk with only a smug smirk playing on his lips as he kept approaching her. Standing facing her, he said "Guess I'm actually twenty-seven unlike the--" he took his phone out, checking the date. Seeing the date brought him such a delight look on his face, smiling pleasingly. "December second, still twenty-eighteen, which leaves us to Edward Cullen celebrating hundred years of becoming a Vampire."

Her mouth stayed open, trying to process his sentences into her brain. Twenty-eighteen makes Edward hundred year old? Wait. That means Damon and Stefan Salvatore are older than Edward! Oh my god! Elena was with two of the oldest Vampires in the world-Tv world. She, like always, went into her own little world leaving Kiaan on Earth. "Oh and this time Bella is also a vampire. With paler skin, if that possible? Red eyes. Oh, and now her daughter is probably married to that Jake boy."

"Jacob." She corrected it, quickly and curtly earning an arched brow from him. Jaanvi replied, missing out the whole information about Bella expect at the mention of the Wolf boy. After all, she liked him and hated Bella for a split moment for hanging the poor guy. Heart broken. Oh, wait. But didn't Taylor Lautner break Taylor Swift's heart? Whatever way it was, one Taylor's heart broke. She laughed at her own thought, "I'm weird."

"Yeah. Totally. Unfortunately." He agreed glancing at her with the -are-you-ok-look.

"Shut up." She smacked his arm playfully. "Imagine dating someone with the same name as you?" His mouth turned into a confused 'what?' What's the point? He thought, earning a sigh from her. "Tubelight." She muttered under her breathe, moving forward in the line.

"What did you just say?" He demanded, glaring at her.

"Nothing." Came her soft, quiet voice. Barely audible. "So the wolf gu-Jacob from Twilight, his real name is Taylor and he dated Taylor sw---"

"Why does this matter?" He questioned, not getting the point.

Not happy with how he cut her off not letting her finish of she replied, "And who cares how old Edward is?"

"You asked if I was a Vampire. So, I stood under the sun to prove I'm human. And my skin didn't glitter or glow like 'diamonds' like Bella had described, which leaves us to one th--"

"That you're an idiot." She cut him off.

"You called me a Vampire so I--" he stopped, rolling his eyes. "Leave it! The point is, A-why did you call me a Vampire? B-Edward is hundred year old Vampire no since he claimed he was turned in 1918, and it's 2018. And C-I don't care about Taylor dating another Taylor. End game."

"Oh my god! That's her song title!" she jumped on her spot, excited hearing Taylor's song name. 'End Game,' was one of her favourites from the new album.

Can I exchange this expired product? He thought, scratching his nose and rubbing his face in frustration. Save me Sai Baba. (Indian God) he exhaled, watching her as she twitched her lips upwards. "Where did Sai Baba come from? Oh! Hold on! I knew it! You were testing my history nah?" She questioned, walking forwards into the line but not breaking the eye contact.

"What?" His lips were formed into a perfect 'O,' a confused 'O.'

"You said 'Save me Sai Baba,' but unfortunately Sai Baba can't kill a Vampire---I think." Her index finger landed on her right cheek, tapping the soft skin repeatedly. She was actually thinking.

"No I--"

"Oh yesss! Sai Baba supposedly died in 1918! And according to you Edward was turned into a Vampire in 191--" she was cut off by a male rough voice echoing in her ear. Leaving her gaze from Kiaan she saw the man holding a scoop, pointing at the ice cream flavours.

"Which one Miss?" He questioned smiling as he pointed deeply into the boxes filled with different coloured ice creams. Her mouth watered as she licked her extremely dry lips from all the wind. Burying her hands deeper inside the sweatshirt pocket she grinned brightly.

Her eyes scanned from vanilla to chocolate and strawberry, her moon curved smile dropped into a thin line, "No, butter scotch?" she whispered, sadly. My second love isn't here? The man shook his head, indicating there weren't any.  "Coffee flavoured?"

"No Mis--"

"We'll have one Kiwi flavoured and one chocolate." Kiaan said, standing forward to take the ice creams and pay the bill. Kiwi? Her face turned into a sour look. KIWI? The thing that worried her was, is it golden Kiwi? Or green kiwi? If it was golden she could probably eat it since it'll be sweet. If it was green it'll most likely be sour and bitter, but ice cream is supposed to be sweet nah?

"No I--"

"I'll have it." He smiled. A smile she feared. Not badly but like she knew something was up. The way he blinked at her, his smile still steady and perfect, almost too perfect to make her suspicious.

I need Daya. She thought, biting her lower lip. (Daya is a fictional TV-Police show character from CID)

They walked away, the ice creams in Kiaan's cold hand. She wanted to taste something cold but didn't ask him to hand it over to her because of her ego. India has better options! What is this? Normal flavours, so boring. All this time, whatever she thought her facial expressions changed as well as her hands moving underneath the woollen sweatshirt pocket. Her eyes rolled, once, twice and thrice. Her hand jumped out of her pocket once she thought about India being better than New York.

"Then go there, Stubborn Cat. And Judgemental as well." He muttered, licking the chocolate ice cream, zipping his cold lips shut to compress his smile when he noticed her blown away face. "I've known you for decades, don't need to hear your voice to understand your stupid thoughts." He muttered, passing her the Kiwi flavoured Ice cream.

"You said you'll ea--"

"You know what? Change of plan. You're being too sweet and happy, not good for your health or my body." Reluctantly she took it into her hand, holding the cone tightly around her firm fingers from the cold.

"Why your body?" She questioned, taking small steps into the grass as they walked ahead.

"You're a Cat for a reason!" he explained, but zipped his mouth as he noticed the people's eyes on him. Smiling awkwardly he lowered his voice. "Not like that." He muttered to one guy who was walking past him, smiling. Why are people so frank here? He could already imagine people in India not understanding the meaning or caring about what he said unlike in New York.

I'm dying for the scratches but Madam is too stubborn. He swallowed the unspoken words, tugging into Jaanvi's hand, pulling her to the other side. "I mean like-when you're angry, who knows you'll murder me? Scratch my face with your long nails? Or kick me with your shoes? So for my own safety, become the bitter Jaanvi again."

Ouch. "I don't need to be just angry to scratch you." She muttered under her breath, eyeing the now ready to melt ice cream. She brought it closer to her lips, ready to lick it when she heard him speak once again.

"The problem is you don't want to scratch me or do anything." He spoke out his thoughts, not thinking twice before he let the words escaped his mouth. I mean, it was normal to answer quickly when you knew the answer right? Sometimes second thoughts are needed, but sometimes, they are.

You can't be so sure. She lifted her lashes from the ice cream to face Kiaan, to show him how deeply his comment had affected her. To show or to confess that she loved him back. But she didn't.

The ice cream from her hand dropped. The untouched, untasted ice cream splashed on the green grass, close to her shoes with her lips parted. Parted enough for her white teeth to show a little. She gulped her saliva once, twice, thrice, and on and on until she felt her hands shaking nearing her Kiaan's sweatshirt that she wore.

"Jaanvi?" Kiaan whispered, walking closer to her. Putting his cold hand on her cold red cheeks, lightly caressing it with his thumbs. "Hey? Look." He once again whispered, this time quietly though. His voice was much lighter and softer and very clear to her ears but she didn't hear anything. All she saw was one person. One thing. That thing.

Kiaan noticed the way her feared eyes were locked into someone's or on someone's figure. Looking behind his shoulder he also dropped his ice cream muttering a small Shit! Not now! She wasn't supposed to see it now.

Married My Enemy

So I named this chapter 'The Race Against Time' because Kiaan didn't want to show that thing or person to Jaanvi until later. Therefore, he couldn't beat the time or timing you could say! Makes sense?

And I realised Kiwi ice cream is ONLY available in New Zealand at the moment, but let's just pretend it's in New York as well :)
