New Students

Since it was the beginning of September, there was snow falling down, giving the frozen ground a thin layer. Many small children in colorful thick robes were sitting on the edges of a stone path, made of dark colored bricks. They all had trunks behind them, each had a cage at the top with an animal inside.

They were all first and second years, coming earlier than every other year to get used to the departure time. The third years arrived just after, followed in order by every next one.

A mob of teenagers soon surrounded the attention-grabbed first years. Many smiled comprehensively to their younger peers, knowing how it felt to begin their wizarding school years.

Once sunset came, the sound of heavy rumbling could be heard in the distance. Every student turned their head to see four large sleds coming towards them. They all seemed to float above snow that formed itself as they moved forward.

One was pulled by a very large pack of massive sled dogs who seemed to have lived through the toughest winters there are. An other was pulled by a group of giant and dark colored deers. An other behind it was pulled by actual reindeers. The last one was pulled by some of the biggest breeds of draft horses. All of the animals wore red gear with a gold letter written on the front of the collar.

They one by one stationned themselves between the brick walls where all of the teens and the baffled first years sat. The bricks parted themselves to open paths to each of the sleds.

A man in a large brown coat came out of the first sled and made his way to the crew. He had dark grey hair and dark eyes that aspired warmth to the cold students. "Welcome to you first years! You must put your trolleys in the last sled. Don't forget what you want to keep with you though! Take a seat in any one of the deer-pulleds. The first one is only for the staff, house heads and prefects!"

The other years had already finished putting away their belongings and sat inside. There, it was much larger than it seemed on the outside. The seats were long cushions with pillows and blankets on the ground. It felt like a fancy camping tent with arranged places more than a sled or bus.

Time was running out before the animals took off again. A fifth year tried to get back out of the sled she was in, but struggled, as the entrance was packed with the crowd. She was looking for someone frantically, she wanted him to be with her and her friends for the travel.

"Where in the world is he?! I shouldn't have forgotten to tell him we were in this one." She whispered to herself  very quietly. When she looked down, she realized there was a first year boy in front of her.

Her frown changed into a warmer expression. She had scruffy dark blonde hair and dark silver eyes. She was a bit small and stubby for a fifth year, but in quite good shape. She had small scars that came down the left of her lower lip. It made it look a very tiny bit crooked. "Hey, are you looking for somewhere to get in? You can come sit with us if you'd like!" She offered the boy with a smile, who nodded with a less assured one.

The fifteen year old went back to looking in the group and sighed. "Just when I can find my-"

"Jenna! He's there, he found us!" A voice shouted joyfully, cutting off the girl, who widened her eyes and turned around immediately.

"Ah, thank god." She quickly went back inside, followed by the hurrying eleven year old. Jenna stopped in front of three other kids. She sat down next to them and so did the child. She wore a few silver rings on her hands, two bracelets and a necklace that all also had silver. She had a small garlick braid attached to her pants. No one there knew what reason it was for since it was the first time she felt the need to wear it, but she was going to talk about it an other time. "I was looking for you, I didn't know you were also in this one!" Jenna explained.

The boy she was talking to lowered his head, smiled widely and crisped his eyes. "Well, at least you still ended up with us!" One of Jenna's friends rolled her eyes. "Yeah, because she hates you so much!" She said sarcastically, smirking.

Jenna gave her a knowing look. She then chuckled and looked down towards the curtain that closed itself before the sleds took off. "What is it!?" The girl with the dark hair almost protested, nervous.

"We should probably talk about that later..." The light haired girl singed her face a bit. "Fine..." The other friend breath through her teeth.

"Hey, where did you put the beasts' boxes? I need to make sure they're okay before we arrive-" Jenna had a sudden thought.

"They're under these blankets here! We can go check on them when we need to!" the boy next to her reassured her.

"Do you have beasts inside of these??" The first year boy pointed at the same blankets the older student did. "Yep! Beasts are the thing I have most passion about in the world! I love learning about the ones that interest me and bonding with them more than anything else. I don't think any other thing could make me more fullfilled. I try my best to take care of them, I tend to be forgetful and it's not a light thing. I think they do know that I don't mean it, though. I've been better lately, but I don't want to fall behind!"

The child had his mouth open in amazement. "Are you even allowed to do this?" He wondered. "Yes, but the teachers can take them back whenever they want. We're just allowed to be in charge of them!"

"We should be careful going in the cases here, though." Jenna's friend carefully retorted with a small grin. "Yeah, we don't want trouble to happen!" the other fifth year giggled.

"Oh well, it's not that bad, disrupting a normal situation, is it? You remember the time when we went to hogsmeade and I made that girl who keeps insulting you jumpscare?" The only friend of Jenna's who didn't speak yet turned his head from the window and smiled a bit mischeviously to Jenna and the other 15 year old.

Jenna did a small chuckle. "Well, it's not good to fight fire with fire, and you should not forget to hurt anyone in any way. Considering that, yes, it's fun. I still don't know why you do this sort of thing, you know it doesn't affect me!"

"Whatever, it's fun to break what she tries to do." The dark ginger haired boy snickered. Jenna closed her eyes, sighed with a smile and looked at the dark haired boy again. She always tried her best to guide her friends to be their best.

Thinking about the newcomer, she inctroduced him more. "Me and Asio both want to become magizoologists later on!" She gestured the student next to her.

While this conversation between the four kids was happening, the girl sitting in front of Jenna looked at everyone quietly, with a disapproving look on her face.

"Is Snowdoor really big?" The newcomer at last had the questions in his mind. "It is quite large, yes!" Jenna nodded. "It's a large old hall that was built many years ago!"

The child looked down and frowned. "Is it a bit scary, going there?"  "Well, it is for some people at first, but that's fine!" Jenna smiled at the child. He smiled a bit worrily, but in a way that made the girl know he understood what she meant.

In a sudden shift in energy of the group, the sleds stopped. Jenna seemed to not have  seen the time pass by. They were already at Snowdoor school of witchcraft and wizardry and it was time for a new year.
