-SIX POV-
I was completely paralyzed, I couldn't move anymore.
Well, I could slightly move my head but that was it and it was a struggle to keep my eyes open and keep breathing.
I was being dragged by a large kid with a white blanket covering their whole body, that was my friend. Their name was Three. A great friend of mine.
"Come on Six, we're almost there. Don't give up now, keep fighting." Three said.
Oh, I was trying to fight but a battle against death was hard to win.
"I....can't..." I weakly said.
"Yes you can! Come on, we're almost there. Just a few turns away." Three said, picking up the pace greatly.
I held on for the final moments of the journey back to our home- which was a hideout that inhabited more kids who were also my friends.
However, once we made it there is when I was about to slip away.
I could barely make out faces, their bodies, it was all a blur.
I heard my friends talk but I couldn't tell where they were at the time.
Five, who wore a baggy torn dark green cloaks and was the youngest, were crying. It breaks my heart to hear the little guy cry.
Two, who was a long-haired girl wearing a light green cloaks. She was panicking. Heh, she was the foundation of this friend group. Brought us all together, allowed us to meet each other...
One who was wearing...
...
I can't think anymore, can barely hear, can barely breathe.
My eyes were getting too heavy, I began to shut them slowly.
"Six! Don't you dare close your eyes!" Three yelled at me, just loud enough for me to hear.
I'm sorry.
I shut my eyes.
*
The sounds of them panicking got quieter and quieter until I heard nothing.
Nothing at all.
Suddenly I felt the wind blowing against me from above.
I slowly opened my eyes to see that I was floating through the sky. The sky was a bright pink color, the clouds being the usual white color. Also the sun was light blue.
The clouds were quickly flying past me? And the longer I was in the air the more the wind blew against me from above.
I looked above me and saw land, I was right over a city. The city screamed pastel with it's bright and happy colors.
The city above me seemed to get closer and closer as the wind blew more furiously and furiously.
Wait a second.
I looked back down at the clouds. They were going fasting past me until no more clouds flew past me.
"I'm not floating, I'm falling!" I yelled, panicking. "I'm upside down!"
Eventually, I fell out of the sky and into one of the city's many alleyways. slamming through a dumpster's top cover I landed in garbage.
However, somehow I didn't die. I had no broken bones either, however I was in pain. But the pain did start to go away quickly oddly enough.
I slowly crawled out of the dumpster and sat on the ground. I felt my pockets, I didn't have my lighter anymore.
I was in an alley, the alley was pastel. Blue and pink colors everywhere in the alleyway. However, I wasn't pastel at all. I was very out of place.
"Hey!" I heard a happy voice behind me, I turned around to see a kid crawl out the dumpster too. They wore a paper bag on their head, a brown trenchcoat and dark brown clothes under it.
They also wore a dark brown backpack with black stars on it.
This kid also wasn't pastel.
"That was my home you just fell through but that's okay!" He said happily, his voice was filled with so much joy. To be honest, he's the happiest sounding person I've ever heard.
"Uhm, hi..?" I said, standing up. "And you live in that dumpster?"
"Yep!" He said.
"Why aren't you mad I just ruined your home?" I asked.
"I'm not the person to get mad about that! I rarely get mad at all!" He said, smiling under his paper bag.
His happiness is kinda weird to me.
"Who are you?" He asked, climbing out of the dumpster to get on the same level as me.
"Six." I said.
"Oooo, pretty name! I'm Mono!" He said.
-Third Person-
"Okay Mono, where am I?" Six asked.
"Wonderarona!" Mono said.
"Wonder- what?" Six said.
"Wonderarona! The place where living being who weren't supposed to die yet go!" Mono said. "You could see it as being rejected from both Heaven and Hell, but it really isn't that. You could call it a glitch in real life."
"So were like, spirits?" Six asked.
Mono shook his head, "No, were still mortals. We still got the need to eat, drink, sleep, and stuff. And before you ask it, the reason you survived the fall is because I guess we're somewhat invincible to fall damage until we land into Wonderarona." Mono explained. "I can't give the true answer since I don't have the knowledge, but I'm going off what everyone else who I've met here went through."
"Oh yeah, and apparently you can meet alter egos of yourself and of other people here. Alter egos of people who haven't even died yet are also here." He added.
"What happens when you die here?" Six asked.
"I don't know." Mono shrugged. "Hopefully finally going to heaven... or hell."
"Lastly, how do I get out of this place?" Six asked.
"Hm, well there is one way. It's to get through the Everlasting Gates Of Wonderarona. Once you walk through those gates you're revived. It's located on the other side of the island, however it's hard to reach. You'll need to go through many different parts of the island. For example..."
Mono began counting on his fingers as he said the names "The Dog Imperial, The Mawful Maw, Floating Paradise, Showdown Hospital, and other weird places."
"Well that's- Wait did you just say The Dog Imperial?" Six asked.
"Yep, The Dog Imperial. An empire of dogs! They rule the Evergrowing Land and have a big cool castle!" Mono explained, still sounding extremely happy. "I mean, all those spoiled dogs gotta go somewhere when they die when they're not supposed to!"
"Uh, that's weird... Okay." Six said, she walked out of the alleyway and onto the sidewalk.
The city looked just as pastel when she was in the sky.
Mono followed her, standing besides her.
"So what are you planning to do?" Mono asked.
"Get to the Everlasting Gates Of Wonderarona no matter what." Six said.
"That's going to be a challenging journey." Mono said.
"You think I didn't hear what you said earlier about it?" Six asked.
"Just repeating myself," Mono said. "Er- can I come? On your journey I mean."
"Well, there's only one path to Everlasting Gates Of Wonderarona so you got no choice but to come with me if you wanna be revived."
"Well actually there's multiple." Mono corrected her.
"Please don't ruin the moment." Six said.
"Sorry." Mono said.
-------------------------------------------------
Six and Mono were walking down the sidewalk, the roads and streets were empty and everybody was inside. At least in this part of town.
Mono was leading Six around the city. Mono was happily skipping, holding onto his backpack strap as he did so.
"I haven't been too far out of this area, so I can only lead you to some extent," Mono said. "After that, we gotta figure out everything on our own."
She nodded, "Alright then." Six said.
They walked into an alleyway, they walked down into the alley. When they were about to turn the corner suddenly, a blue-ish white van drifted around the corner. Its wheels screeching against the pavement of the alley.
The two kids dodged out the way of the van, jumping the opposite direction from each other and pressing themselves against the walls of the alleyway.
The van zoomed past them and drifted onto the road, however the van ended up crashing into a coffee shop.
"Oh no!" Mono said.
"Eh, not our problem." Six said.
"Six, that's rude!" Mono said. "You should at least pretend to care that somebody probably just died."
The person (he was not pastel) driving the van got out of the vehicle and quickly ran off.
"See? They're fine. Now let's go." Six said and began walking off, Mono looked at the van one last time before following Six.
A boy with black shaggy hair, wearing a blue jacket and dark blue pants, and a chain around their ankle, and also wasn't pastel (I'm already tired of saying this, all living beings in Pastel Town aren't pastel), climbed out from the back of the van and into the front seat.
They carefully stepped out of the van.
They backed up quite a bit to stare at the whole van.
"I can't believe I actually managed to be kidnapped in a van-- Actually no that's not hard to believe, vans have a reputation for luring and kidnapping children." They said to themselves.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sun was setting over the horizon, night was soon to come. Late afternoon in this world, instead of being orange, the sky was a mix between pink, blue (from the sun), and black.
Mono and Six were walking on roofs, jumping across the gaps between buildings easily since it wasn't that far of a jump
"Isn't the sunset beautiful!" Six said, staring at the sunset.
"Yeah..." Mono shook his head, "Yeah! It's so pretty!"
"But this does mean night is coming and we'll need a place to rest soon." Six said, she looked at Mono. "Got any good places to sleep in mind?"
"The only place I know that is a good sleeping place is that dumpster you damaged." Mono said, "besides that I don't know and we're getting very close to where I haven't been before."
"We'll figure something out, let's keep going." Six said.
And so they did, they continued walking across the roofs. On the next 4 roofs they finally climbed down and began going into another alley.
"So, have I told you how age worked here?" Mono asked.
"No, you haven't." Six said.
"Lesson time, then!" Mono said, smiling under his paper bag.
"So, you basically stay the same age in this place forever. You don't grow or anything. If you die and go here you stay the same age you died at." Mono explained. "How old are you, Six?"
"12." She said. "You?"
"11, nearly 12." Mono said. "But since I've been stuck here for 5 years, I guess I'm technically 16. But I don't feel 16, I don't feel more mature at all. I just still feel like a 11 year old. And I'm pretty sure I don't think and act like a 16 year old."
"So I am still 11 years old, I won't deny that fact until further notice." Mono said.
"I understand that." Six said. "...Wait if you've been stuck here for 5 years how come you don't know more about this place?"
"Never truly explored for all those years, just stayed in the area I knew I was mostly safe in," Mono explained. "Call me a wimp if you want."
"I won't." Six said, " I don't blame you for staying in places you think are safe- mostly safe. It's a dangerous world. At least I think it's dangerous here?"
"It can be pretty dangerous in some areas of this town." Mono said, "Right now we're in the most safest area."
"Well, that won't be for long. Unfortunately and fortunately, depends on how you see it." Six said before she went to the edge of the roof and jumped down. Mono quickly ran over and looked over the edge to see Six just jumped down onto a dumpster.
Mono jumped down too, landing besides Six.
They were in another alleyway, there was newspaper scattered around on the floor. There were chunks of rolled-up black paper scattered around too, there were high iron barred fences at all the exits/entrances to the alleyway. Luckily, the gaps between the bars were wide enough for us to squeeze through so getting in and out wouldn't be a problem.
In the middle of it all, there was a pastel pink lighter lying on its side. It was barely damaged.
"This seems like a pretty safe place to rest." Six said, climbing off the dumpster. She immediately went and grabbed the lighter. She turned on the lighter to see if it's fire was normal.
The fire was lighter, however it wasn't pink or blue or anything. Just a fire with lighter colors.
"At least this is a sorta original colored fire." Six said.
Mono chuckled, "If you want to get away from all the pastel colors, you'll need to get out of Pastel Town."
"Huh?" Six looked at him, confused.
"I heard the whole land isn't like this, only this certain section of the area. There are some areas that go back to the 'real life' color palette." Mono said, "But what do I know? I only go off based what others say."
"Well I hope that's true." Six said. "If I'm going to see pastel for the many days I spend here, I'm going to go crazy."
"Wha? Why? Pastel isn't that bad." Mono said. "It can be quite beautiful!"
"Meh, Pastel can get annoying to look at for me." Six said.
"But all these happy colors~!" Mono said that as he spun around, his arms in the air.
"eh" Six said.
"Don't they fill you with some kind of joy?" Mono asked.
"No." Six said.
"Energize you?" Mono asked, still spinning.
"Nuh." Six said.
"Make you feel in place?" Mono asked.
"Dude, we're not pastel but everything else is. We are very out of place, unnatural to the current environment."
Mono stopped spinning, a bit dizzy after it but he shook it off very quickly.
"Okay, that last one was true I guess." Mono said.
Mono sat down, soon after Six sat down too.
Six rolled onto her back and looked up at the sky.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Six POV-
It was currently night, the bright pastel colors turned much dimmer at night.
Mono left to go get food for us. While he was gone I decided to make a small fire using the rolled-up pieces of black paper scattered around the alley. Lighting the fire with my lighter of course.
After I finished the campfire I began sitting down and waiting for Mono to come back.
I was still sitting and staring at the fence he exited at.
I waited about an hour or so for him to return, I was starting to get impatient and I was afraid I would get a hunger strike soon.
Just when I started worrying Mono returned. Squeezing through the bars of the fence with a small bag full of food in his hand.
However, I immediately noticed he was limping.
"Mono are you okay?!" I said getting up.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Mono said, dropping the food bag near Six. He had his right foot lifted off the ground a bit.
"But you're limping!" I said.
"It's not that bad, I just fell from a high place. I'll be fine in the morning." Mono said.
"Hopefully-" He quietly added on.
Mono grabbed some bread out the bag and walked a bit away from me to eat it.
I was about to eat some food when I suddenly in the corner of my eye I saw a kid peaking into the alleyway we were in. Once I turned my head towards them they quickly hid behind the wall they were peaking behind.
"There's somebody here, I think." I said.
-Third Person-
The kid walked out from behind the wall, it was the same kid from the car crash. He was holding something in his left hand.
"Uh... Hi?" He gave a small wave.
"Who are you?" Six asked hostilely.
"And what are you doing here?" Mono asked, sounding much friendlier.
"My name is Seven and followed you, the bag kid, here." Seven explained. "But don't get all aggressive! I noticed him limping and I wanted to help. So I decided to follow him until he finally stops so I could talk with him"
"I don't know how I feel about this, Mono." Six said.
"Come on in! Just slip through the bars. You can have some of our food too!" Mono said.
"MONO!" Six yelled at him.
Seven slipped through the bars, once he neared the fire you could see what he was holding easier. He was holding bandages and a tiny half-empty bottle of bengay.
"What is that?!" Six pointed to the bengay bottle.
"It's bengay." Seven said.
"What's that?!" She asked.
"It's a medicine used to soothe minor aches and pains." Seven said.
"Mhm." Six said, still very skeptical. She decided to eat some of the food Mono brought while watching them.
Seven walked over to Mono.
"Where does it hurt?" Seven asked.
"My foot, right foot." Mono said, straightening out his legs.
"Okay, let's see..." Seven looked at his foot.
He blinked.
He looked back up at Mono.
"Kay, so... What happened?" Seven asked.
"I fell from a high place." Mono said.
"How high?" He asked. "What did you fall off of exactly?"
"I fell off a counter and just got a limp from the fall, that's it."
"Are you sure that's it?" Seven asked.
"Yeah," Mono said.
"Okay well, you got multiple splinters in your foot and one small piece of glass in there too. So you did more than just fall off a counter." Seven said.
"Okay, so maybe I climbed up a broken wood pile and slipped a few times causing me to get some splinters. And maybe I had to quickly maneuver through broken glass that was lying on the floor of the place I was stealing from and messed up on the last glass piece and got a small glass shard stuff in my foot?" Mono said. "But there's no way to prove that, as I said 'Maybe'."
"Yeah no, you're being way too specific so it did happen." Seven said, "Just hold still."
"And this may hurt a bit." He added.
"Don't worry, positive energy and the power of happiness can block out any pain- OH MY GOD THIS HURTS- AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!" Mono cried when Seven suddenly ripped the glass shard out his foot.
"What happened to positive energy and happiness?" Seven asked, throwing the bloody shard across the alleyway.
"Shush!" Mono said.
Seven began removing the many splinters.
"How do you know this medical stuff?" Six asked.
"Glad you asked, my mom was a doctor. I was very interested in her job so she often told me stories about the hospital and patients. And also she taught me some basic medical stuff and what to do in some emergencies." Seven said, he took out all the splinters and began putting bengay on it. "Would you like to hear a story about one of the patients my mom had?"
"No." Six said.
"Yes!" Mono said.
"Okay so once there was this crazy patient that brought a gang with them to the hospital. This one gang member was wearing all black and was playing a song named Astronomia on the flute!..." Seven told the rest of the story as he bandaged Mono's foot.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Six ended up enjoying some bits of the story but overall just found it annoying to listen to.
Mono, on the other hand, enjoyed the story. He even started clapping once it was over.
The children started talking to each other about random things.
"So, how did you guys die?" Seven asked, "I died by drowning in a pool- at least I think it was a pool? I don't know, I drowned in some place called The Depths. I think that was the name at least. Some old-woman-monster dragged me underwater and drowned me."
"I died from blood loss, I decided to take a risky jump over sharp objects and failed it. Giving myself many wounds on the way down. My friend, who's named Three, was with me. She tried to get me home and meet with the others to try and save me but she couldn't make it to them in time." Six explained, then she looked towards Mono. "What about you?"
"Oh! It's really graphic but I'll save you the many, many details. I got poisoned and died." Mono said, "Snake poison."
Seven and Six nodded.
The kids talked about more random things.
Mono blinked, blanking out for a moment and nearly falling over.
Mono quickly balanced himself again and looked around the area they were in.
Six noticed Mono acting a bit weird, "You okay?" she asked.
Mono said, "Yeah, uh." He got up and stumbled backwards. "I'll be right back."
"Where are you going?" Seven asked.
Mono looked around the alley they were in and at the closest fence.
"I'm... uh... Going- Going to the bathroom! So yeah." He said nervously, limp-running to the fence and squeezing through the bars. He had some trouble squeezing through the bars since in his worry he forgot he was wearing a backpack. Eventually (, which was very soon,) he managed to squeeze through with the backpack and left.
"That was weird." Seven said. "Is he normally like that?"
"How would I know? I've only known him for a day." Six said.
"Really? You guys act like you've known eachother much longer." Seven said.
"I guess." Six said, she stared at the fence Mono left through. "Should we question him when he comes back?"
"No, let's just take his excuse. If he keeps doing it then we probably should." Seven said.
"Okay then." Six said.
About 4 minutes later Mono quietly slipped through the bars of the fence and went back over to the little garbage campfire Six made. Sitting a bit far from the others.
Six and Seven just stared at Mono.
"Uhm, hey it's getting late. We should probably sleep." Mono said, "We need to have lots of rest."
Six looked up at the night sky. "You're right." She said, looking back down at Mono.
Six looked at Seven, "Do you want to sleep with us?" She asked.
"Sure!" Seven said.
"Wow, you're acting friendlier. I thought I'd have to invite him to stay myself."
Six huffed, "Don't get used to it."
"Totally won't!" Mono said, giving a thumbs up.
"Ugh, let's just sleep." Six said, blowing out the campfire.
"Night!" Mono said.
"Goodnight..." Six said.
"Goodnight guys!" Seven said.
The children slept.
