Chapter 46

Moving to a different floor sounded simple enough in my head, right?

You would think I asked to be made President of Student Affairs or something extra hard to do. Find an empty spot for me, and move me into it. A then B and now we have C. Pretty simple.

"Rayvn, it's not that simple. It takes time to get a new room placement," Diallo said to me.

"I don't really care!" I said, my voice raised a bit. "I need to look after myself, and not feel stressed and afraid where I live. If you can't help me to move, let me talk to someone who can."

That made Allura open her bedroom door and stick her head out.

"It's cool Rayvn, run on off and leave," Allura stated, arms across her chest.

At one point I thought Allura and I would become the best of friends. Now she hated me and I did not care for her much. She chose to take Twyla's side even though she was wrong in this. Fighting over a boy who could care less about her.

"I'm not running away," I said to her. "I just prefer to not be intimidated where I live."

"Rayvn, I can make sure you're not in a stressful situation. You three need to talk things out. I'll set up a meeting-"

"I don't want a meeting!" I yelled at him. "I want a new room! If you can't do it I will find someone who will."

I slammed the door on Diallo standing there. He was an idiot and I could not deal with him right now.

The next morning I showered and dressed and left the room early. My father was waiting for me downstairs. He was in a rental he was going to drive back to St. Louis.

"Am I disturbing your day? You should be at work, right?" I asked as I buckled my seat belt.

"One thing you learn when you're the boss, Rave, you make your own hours."

"Okay, okay! Did you learn that from Angel?"

My dad scoffed at me. "Contrary to your belief, I had my business before I met my wife."

"But you did expand to two and started making  a profit after her...just saying Daddy, Angel has been good for you."

"I'll admit that," he said with a grin, his dimples popping. "But I've been good for her as well. Angel needed a little street in her. She was a stuck-up, judgemental, bougie...well, she was a lot. She didn't even like kids at first, and I know her first impression of you didn't help with that feeling."

"What? I was always sweet as pie to Angel." A little lie wouldn't hurt anyone.

"You ain't got to lie Craig!" my father said, quoting a favorite line from the movie he loved, Friday.

We made it to Broadway Diner for breakfast. I had not been there but my dad told me that Angel recommended it. I ordered plenty of food because I was starving.

We talked about everything but school. We talked about the next time I would be home which was Winter Break. Only three weeks away, and one of those weeks was finals week.

Three weeks at home and I could not wait.

"So Daddy, will you and Angel get me a car for Christmas? Remember when I asked and you said-"

"Let me see what those grades look like."

"Daddy, I didn't make great grades in high school, you guys are expecting a miracle. Let me be lucky if I don't fail any classes."

"Baby girl, you're smarter than you know. We're not asking for perfect grades, just put in the work and do your best."

Whatever that was. Right now I was holding at Cs and Bs. Getting an A in any class would be a miracle.

After breakfast, my father drove me back to campus and then headed back home. I never felt so lonely in my life. Before, when they dropped me off at college, at least I looked forward to a new adventure. Now I was in a world of known, that I quickly wanted to get out of.

Why did my early Monday class have to have not only my two roommates but the boy in the middle of the controversy and the boy that inadvertently caused my breakup with Diallo?

I did not blame King at all for it, he had no clue what happened. I wasn't going to tell him either.

"Hey fresh," King said when he came and sat beside me. "How was your Thanksgiving?"

"Lots of food, my family, St. Louis was great, we also went to Phoenix,  for my step-grandparents...I mean grandparents. Step is such a weird word to call a family member. Then my dad drove me back down and he just left after we had breakfast."

I was babbling but this was the first time I got to talk to someone I considered a friend.

"You okay?" King asked, giving me a fatherly look that was weird.

I was not going to tell him anything going in with me.

"I'm fine! How was your holiday?"

"Not as eventful as yours. Some good food, some friends and family."

I really wanted to go in and tell him everything going on with me but now was not the time, nor was he the person.

I needed friends!

After class, I went on my way and did anything but go back to my room. I hung out at the library, I went to the Student Center and the bookstore. Then I had my other classes.

I still didn't want to go back to my room. When I made my way back to my residence hall I went to the grand lobby to sit and hang out. Do some studying outside of my suite. That's when I saw Gay sitting there all by herself head down on her phone.

Should I say hello to her? She was Diallo's sister. He was the enemy now, did that mean she was?

I wasn't ready to face her. I quickly turned before she saw me but as per Rayvn Lawrence style, my bag dropped to the floor with a loud crash and my contents spilled everywhere. Laptop, notebook, pens, and of course, my feminine products because it was almost my time of the month.

Yes, people were around. Yes, they were looking. And yes, I was embarrassed as I stood there stunned.

"Rayvn?" Gay came to my side. "You okay? You need some help?"

"No!" I quickly grabbed my things scattered all around.

Gay went for my tampons. I needed to change to a diva cup or something more discreet. But this was my life.

"Rayvn, I know about you and my brother. Want to talk about it?" Gay said as she handed me my things.

I stuffed everything back in my bag, not knowing what to say to her.

"I don't."

"Come in Rave, I didn't know the whole story. Only my brother's side and I'm sure that's not the whole story."

Why was she being so nice to me while her brother was a jerk?

"What did he tell you?"

"No, you tell me what happened."

After I gathered all my things, we walked over to a table and sat. I don't know why but I felt comfortable talking to her.

"Well...first my roommates are upset with me because my friend Chantell, you know, she came to visit from St. Louis...well, she hooked up with Donnell...you know, who lives across the hall. But Twyla and he were already a thing...uh...along with several other girls, but anyway, Chantell hit Twyla and she's pregnant. I tried telling them both he's a loser, even though Chantell doesn't see it."

When Gay didn't stop me, I kept talking.

"Your brother told me to stay out of it, but I didn't want my friend to get hurt in this. I asked King...that's my friend from class, what did he think about Donnell trying to be Nick Cannon or something. Well, wait...I don't think Chantell is pregnant." My stomach dropped to my feet. "I hope not!"

I grabbed my phone to text her. I don't know what I was going to say to her so I stopped myself.

"I'm sorry, I'm all over the place."

"So what else happened?"

"Somehow Diallo found out I was talking with King, I think my roommates saw us together after class and took pictures and sent them to him. He said he saw us together. I told him we were just friends but he didn't believe me."

"Asshole," she said about her brother.

"What? You believe me?"

"Of course I do. I saw how crazy you were about my brother you wouldn't cheat on another guy. Besides it's you, haven't even kissed a boy till him. He's an ass for not trusting you."

"He thinks because King likes me I shouldn't hang out with him."

"Long as you set boundaries with the guy what's the problem? Anyway, don't let my brother keep you away from me. I'm not him. I'm your friend, unlike your roommates who seem to be assholes as well for sending him the pictures stirring up the mess."

Wow! I was shocked that not only was she taking my side with her brother, but also against my roommates. Maybe I did have a true friend here after all.

"I'm trying to get a new dorm room. I can't stay there with them, or on Diallo's floor."

"Move in with me."

"Huh?"

"I hate my roommate. I'll kick her out and we can share. I mean, different dorm, smaller suite, not fancy like yours."

"I'll take it!"

A/N: What do you guys think about Rayvn rooming with Gay? Good or bad idea?
