Burning Tears-Chapter 1
"Hey, Mommy? Daddy? Is school really fun?"
"Oh, Vincent, don't ask your father, he was home-schooled. Yes, school is tons of fun, sweetie!"
Not only was it Nathan's (now twenty-seven years old) nine-year anniversary since his arrival on Earth, but it was also his five-year old son's- Vincent Blackwood's, first day of kindergarten.
"What's 'home-schooled?'" the little boy asked.
He had the pale skin from both of his parents and long ear-length, pitch black hair. Vincent had the same exact face as his father's, but he had the roundness of his mother's face. To top it off, he had unique green eyes, in the shade of dark sea green- in which that would be the color when you combine Nathan's golden eyes and Adrianna's cornflower blue eyes.
"It's when you're schooled from home!"
"I wanna have school at home! Please?! I'm pretty sure it'll save time! And money! And electricity!"
"Wait, why electricity?" Adrianna confused.
"Because! You have to put an alarm clock on every night, and leaving it plugged will take more electricity!"
"But the clock always stays plugged in even if there isn't an alarm set."
"But it takes a bit more power to play the audio...Kid's got a point!" Nathan added.
"Yeah! What Daddy says! So, can we go home?!" begged Vincent.
"Nice try, but you're going to school!"
"Aw, OK!"
"Bye, Vincent!" both parents said, kissing their son goodbye.
"Bye, Mommy and Daddy! Tell Uncle Joe I said hi, Daddy!"
Vincent ran off through the black gated entrance, into the schoolyard. He pulled a folded piece of paper out of his pocket and started opening it. It was a list of reminders he and his mother wrote together the day before. Top of the list, he spotted his class section: KB. He looked down at the colorful asphalt, with various designs painted by the children of the past. He saw he was standing on 2A. He then started walking away from it, looking for his section. Next was 1C, then 1A; he was getting closer. He finally found KC, and to its left was KB. Vincent also found a pair of blue jeans, then his eyes followed up to a green t-shirt, and met the brown eyes of a much taller kid, with a crew-cut of red hair. The kid must have been six inches taller than Vincent.
"Hey, I'm Cody. And you are?"
"I'm Vincent! Are you in my class too?"
"Pff, no, you're in my class! Now scram, before I make you!"
"I'm not here to make trouble. I'm here to learn and make friends!"
"Who told you that, you're Mommy?"
"Yeah! Why you say it like that?"
"Aww, little baby's gonna go cry to his Mommy now!"
"I'm not crying!"
Cody then shoved Vincent with both arms, but Vincent only went back two steps.
"Go! Babies don't belong here!" spat Cody.
He went to shove Vincent again, but this time, Vincent was ready. Before Cody's hands made contact, Vincent smacked both arms away from and now that there was an opening, Vincent lifted his leg to drive his foot onto the bully's stomach- sending Cody six feet away from him to land on his back. Cody was groaning and coughing in pain, his eyes watering quickly. He remained on the floor, shocked of what just happened.
Although young, Vincent's strength was not like any other child his age, and clearly, neither was his knowledge of self-defense.
From afar, Nathan and Adrianna were still there to see the whole thing unfold.
They were both smirking, "That's our boy!"
"Excuse me! Your son just attacked our Cody!"
The voice came from a red-haired woman, who looked exactly like Cody. She was also with her husband, and they were both wearing business attire; the kind that vividly displayed they were of some higher class.
"Don't consider it attacking, consider it the discipline you never properly implemented." tagged Nathan.
"Hey, don't you mouth my wife like that!" the blonde husband now. It was obvious Cody's looks weren't from his father.
"Ew, why would I mouth with that? I'm married, see? Oops, sorry, wrong finger!" said Nathan, switching his middle finger to his ring-finger.
"Think you're funny pal?" The husband then gripped Nathan by his hoodie.
Nathan responded with a head-butt to the man's nose, a loud crackle resounding amongst his cries. The man dropped to the floor, unable to stop the blood from spewing out onto his white shirt.
"How dare you?!" the wife now, stomping over to Nathan.
But before she could get her hands on him, Adrianna stepped in to quickly grab the woman's hair and business jacket. She pulled the fiery mother away from Nathan, then swung her around to ram her head-first into the iron gate-post. The woman stumbled back and fell to the ground, unconscious.
"Well, training did pay off for you." commented Nathan.
The parents around them then started applauding them, like it was something they had been waiting for for so long. Nathan and Adrianna smiled at them sincerely, then checked back to their son. School staff members were huddled around Cody who was still in shock on the play-yard, while Vincent played it cool, looking away from the scene.
"Shit, what're we gonna tell them?" Adrianna said.
"Oh, we saw everything, we got your back!" said one other parent.
"Yeah, go along now! We'll say yous was late fo' work! We owe y'all one anyway!" said another.
Adrianna checked her phone, eyes wide. "Oh! I am actually late! Not the best impression for the first day!"
"Especially for being the new restaurant manager." Nathan added.
"Shut up! I gotta go, bye!"
"I can fly you there."
"No, I parked in a No Parking Area."
"Nice one!"
"Shut! Up!"
"Haha, bye Addie. Love you."
"Love you too, bye!"
The two kissed each other goodbye and split ways; Adrianna sped off to her car, while Nathan spread his charcoal gray wings and took to the skies to meet Joseph.
