Mundane
Between the mundane thrills
Of my mom buying cookies at the store
Or cleaning out the flowerbeds
Seeing you sitting out on the porch
Breaks away from the dull everyday
Your overly excited dog running circles
Around an invisible foe that he alone must chase
Summer sun awakens the tired yet still present
Red strands of hair you've hidden away
Days become seconds in your presence
The entirety of spring passed on a whim
On the same evening we spent heckling movies
The afternoon grows longer in the pet section
Of the grocery store down the street
What are empty pockets except vessels
Specifically designed to carry dog treats?
