Caught in a Groove
Some mornings are filled with squinted eyes
Wincing at the cold, ruthless light
Compared to the warm, comforting darkness of sleep
Trying to hide under a blanket that's never
Long enough, thick enough, warm enough
Halfway remembering a song stuck in my head
Like a record needle caught in the same groove
I mutter and mumble the tune and a possibility of lyrics
Although I've misheard so many lyrics I can't trust myself
Legs dangling off the side that I don't remember where I am
I have a knack for not being able to fit the largest mattresses
After the dizziness of nighttime wears off I gain my bearings
My head still rolls and pitches like it's on a boat
I never expected to get seasick lying in my own bed
The breath of a feather could knock me over and it does
Face first into what I hope is a pillow but I don't double check
The catchy song is the only element to keep me awake
I need to know what song it is
I already know but at the same time I don't
If I stuck out my tongue I could see it and know
However my eyes have already been glued shut
