Chapter 11..
Dravon POV..
The pilot unlocked the plane door and I casually walked out. I wasn't under any serious disguise, just a hat. A very useful hat at that. It not only hid my gorgeous blonde locks from any rebel spies keeping tabs on me, it also shielded my eyes from the sun's rays. As soon as I got off the plane I noticed a lone figure standing on the runway.
Tyler Kravits.
Also known as Jareth Anakin.
Ha-ha.
Anakin.
I didn't know if I should run up to him like Jacob would, or if I should act like the professional spy I was. Spying is a very confusing business. You never know how to act around someone who's been undercover. Sometimes, even if you know it's their job, you resent them for lying to you. I spent months befriending Tyler, now I have to face Jareth. Will we be close? Is Jareth anything like Tyler? Even though I'm nothing like Jacob, I'm sure Tyler and I could have been close.
I sighed and walked down the stairs.
"Wait, wait, wait for me!"
I spun around, pulled out my pistol, aimed it at the person standing at the top of the stairs, and took a defensive stance.
"Whoa, Dravy, careful where you point that."
"Treakle what the hell are you doing?"
She walked down the stairs gracefully and pushed my gun away from her, "Well, when I went to meet the council, I overheard you were coming back here."
My body tensed, "Did you hear why I came here?"
"No," she tilted her head to the side, "Why are you here?"
"I uh..." What was I supposed to say? This goes against protocol. With all my training I was clueless on how to handle this situation.
"Oh my god is that Tyler?!" Before I could answer she was jogging towards him screaming his name.
"I hate this chick." I mumbled before sprinting after her, catching up fast. When I was within six feet I lunged at her.
"Oomph." We both mumbled as we crashed into the floor.
"Robin? Hey you get off her!"
Greaaat! Just what I need. He was still in protective best friend mode.
I jumped up before he could reach me, pulling Treakle by the wrist along with me.
"Damn Dravon what's wrong with you?" she said whipping the stray gravel pieces off her face.
"Who are you? Robs you okay?" Tyler asked grabbing her arm gentler than my grip, but still possessively. "So, what? You kidnap her, ask to meet me here, and then ask for a ransom? Is this how it all works?"
"No, look Tyler, I know who you are."
"Obviously dip-shit, you just called him by his name. Why are you trying to meet him?"
"Treakle, shut up."
"Hey don't talk to her like that!" Tyler said pulling her towards him.
"Jareth, I know who you are." Tyler's face hardened and he glared at me. His head inclined slightly towards Treakle as if to say "not-now"
"Jareth? His name is Tyler. He's not one of you weird people with weird names."
I ignored Treakle. "She already knows. Peyton was a double agent sent to kidnap her. Well actually she tried to kill her, but I saved her. Headquarters wants' you back now." His face fell when I emphasized who gets the glory for saving the most secured girl in spy history.
"Why do they want me back now? I can't be much use with my leg still healing."
I looked down and noticed for the first time that his knee was being hugged by one of those brace things. Why didn't I realize before that his run was limp-ish?
Note-to-self: Don't let Treakle distract you again.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Tyler, what are you talking about?" she pulled her arms out of both our grasps and began slowly backing away from us. Her eyes instantly went from annoyed to afraid.
"Treakle, I'm a spy."
She shook her head, "No. No that's not what you call me. I'm Robs remember! No Tyler please no!" tears welled up in her eyes. This wasn't something she was supposed to find out. Not like this.
I actually pitied her. Not in the friendship "oh-I-want-to-help" way, more of an onlooker's "damn-sucks-for-her" way.
"That's not your name, Treakle, it's not who you are. Robin was just like Tyler. A name."
"And Jacob." I added
Jareth turned to me, "You're Jacob?!"
I nodded and turned back to Treakle, who was crying now. Nice. Way to keep your dignity.
"Was anyone my friend because they wanted to be? Or was everyone just forced to?"
Both Jareth and I advanced to her, fully aware that she could and would try to run.
"I'm pretty sure Harry isn't a spy. But his memory will be erased; he won't have any recollection of you whatsoever."
Treakle looked mortified at Jareth's attempt at comfort.
"Really?" I criticized. "Is now really the best time to tell her that?"
He shrugged. Apparently I'm not the only one who has to make an effort to be nice.
And then...she ran. Inevitable. They always run. Not any good it's doing her. She has not one but two spies chasing her. I don't know about Jareth, but I'm hella fast. Not to mention he's sort of crippled.
Before I knew what I was doing, Jareth and I were racing towards Treak. It was back and forth, he'd lead, then I would, then it'd switch back again. Whatever happened to limp-run I saw earlier?!
We got so caught up in the race, we both sprinted past Treakle. I reacted first, scrambling back towards her. She had stopped running and stared at us like we were crazy.
Note-to-self: Don't let Jareth distract you either.
"So my only friend who was my friend for me, doesn't even know I exist?" she asked when Jareth returned.
"Basically."
"And what about everyone else? Teachers, neighbors, peers?"
"All due to be brainwashed. Literally." I laughed at Jareth's small joke. Treakle just looked pissed.
"My whole life has been a lie." She mumbled.
"Oh don't be so melodramatic! You think Jareth's life was any better? What about mine? At least you got to be yourself. One mistake when I was seven and I'm stuck living fake lives, with fake personalities. At least yours was real. Normal is a better word."
"What mistakes can a seven year old make-?"
"I enlisted as an astronaut. My dad told me it was a game web site, and if I could get a membership card, I'd get to join the club. He set me up. My father lied to me just so he could have bragging rights. Now if you still want to think your life sucks, I have plenty more sap stories. Tyler wasn't real. Suck it up. I'm sorry you have to find out you fell in love with a name, yet again."
"You loved Tyler?" Jareth tried to suppress his laugh. No success. Man....and people call me insensitive. "He was just a guardian, a friend, damn, you weren't meant to love him!"
Treakle blushed, "Leave me alone asshole."
Maaaan. Here comes that pity. The friendship pity. If anyone was going to make fun of Treakle's love life, it'd be me. "Alright, let's just admit Treakle loves us and get a move on. Headquarters wants us back. And they need to know of our stow away." I glared at Treakle, "I bet they're on red alert looking for you."
She looked up at me and glowered before sprinting back to the jet.
"Man, it feels pretty good to be myself. After seven years you'd think I'd lose my persona. Know what I mean?" Jareth slapped my back.
"Yeah..."I was still watching Treak. She was so happy to see Tyler...but Jareth... Am I that harsh?
Ugh. Damn friendly pity.
