Camp
Firstly I want to apologize for the delay in posting a new chapter. A lot has happened in the last few months while I've been away, and one of those things is that I've become a commissioned art agent for Christian. We're selling art commissions to some friends, and you may have seen some of them already. Otherwise, check out the story The One To Save Us All by NezutheRatGod or Izuku and TMNT: Heroes Out of the Shadows by EmanuelLucas236, where you can find some of the work we've been doing.
If you would like to commission art for your story. Whether it's from Christian or another artist friend of mine (who specializes in OC), feel free to message me here on Wattpad or Discord, and we can discuss the details.
========================
The next day, all the students from Class A gathered, already waiting for the buses that would take them to the camp. Kyoka and Izuku hadn't spoken a word to each other; both were too nervous to bring up what had happened that day. Now, here they were, standing and waiting to board the bus.
Mina: Hehehe...!
-A grinning Mina, laughing mischievously, took out her phone and aimed the camera at them.- This is payback for trying to hide—eep!
-Only for Izuku to snatch the phone from her hand.-
H-Hey! Not cool, Midori!
Izuku: We weren't trying to hide anything. Now get on the bus.
-he said, just before hearing a familiar voice behind him.-
'It's been a while since I've been able to communicate with them... I have to—'
Monoma: Huh? Are there Class A students taking extra classes!?
-he exclaimed, irritatingly.-
So someone failed the final exams!? Huh!? Isn't that stran—AH!
But he was quickly struck on the back of the head by Kendo. He instantly dropped to the ground, slightly unconscious, while Class A collectively sighed at the scene.
Class A: 'This happens a lot, huh?'
>>>>
The trip lasted about an hour. Inside the bus, Mina and the others played music while Izuku and Kyoka tried to sleep, though neither of them succeeded. After the usual travel banter, they caught sight of a vast forest.
Aizawa: And we've arrived.
Mineta: Where's the bathroom?!
Izuku: 'This feels a bit odd for just a rest stop.'
-He was stretching his arms and legs.-
He noticed that Class B's bus was nowhere in sight. The only other thing around, besides them, was an old car a little further away.
Yaoyorozu: Aizawa-sensei, why did we stop here?
Aizawa hadn't strayed far from the bus, his hands shoved in his pockets, wearing the usual expressionless look they expected from him. It seemed he didn't bother coming up with a reason for the stop, so eventually, the teacher just shrugged.
???/???: That would be because of us!
-Two figures emerged from the old car.-
???: Locate the target with our gleaming eyes!
???: While our fluffy paws strike!
???/???: Wild, wild... Pussycats!
The students watched as two women suddenly appeared, shouting and striking poses. They were obviously Heroes, but most hadn't heard of them—only Izuku had. One was blonde with two purple marks on her cheeks, while the brunette had red spots.
Izuku: Wow! They're a four-member hero team working under a single agency!
-he was having a fanboy moment.-
They're a veteran team specialized in mountain rescue operations! They have 12 years of experien—!
-The blonde tried to grab his face, but he dodged with his quick reflexes.-
What the—!
She tried again, but this time, Izuku grabbed her arm and threw her to the ground, thinking it was a test. This shocked most of the class, including Aizawa and the other heroine.
???: Well, I ne—!
-Before she could say anything, Mandalay placed a hand in front of her.-
Mandalay: Stop that, Pixie-Bob.
-she said with a stern expression.-
Sorry about that, kid.
Izuku: O-oh, it's okay.
-He gave a shy smile while rubbing the back of his neck.-
Aizawa: Anyway... These are the Pro Heroes who will be helping us this time.
-Aizawa introduced them.-
Mandalay began explaining that they would be staying at the base of a mountain, which was part of their territory. Understanding dawned on Izuku as the rest of his classmates began murmuring nervously about getting back to the bus safely.
Mandalay: And if you hurry, you'll finish by noon. It's 9:30 now, so...
Aizawa: ...the camp starts now.
Most of the students started running toward the bus, but Pixie-Bob appeared in front of them, using her quirk to make them fall into a pile of dirt.
Mandalay: Hey, Eraser, weren't there 21 students?
Aizawa: Yes... The last one is right up there...
-he pointed to the sky, and the two saw Izuku in the air after jumping and using Float.-
Too bad it won't last long...
Aizawa activated his quirk, immediately shutting off Izuku's quirk. He quickly tumbled down the hillside, with his classmates undoubtedly waiting for him at the bottom.
Izuku: 'Damn!'
Mandalay/Pixie-Bob: Who's that kid/brat!?
Aizawa: Well, he's the student with the most potential in all of U.A. and the only one capable of defeating All Might.
The heroines' eyes widened, thinking they had misheard him.
>>>
Pixie-Bob: You guys are amazing!
-It was the first thing Class A heard from her when they arrived; she looked tired.-
But you could have gone a bit easier, you know?
Everyone looked at Izuku, who was puffing a bit, as he was the one who had left the area in utter destruction. Trees were toppled, the ground was dug up, and the destruction spanned an area the size of a small soccer field. All with 20% of OFA.
Mandalay: I agree, it's only 1:25 PM. We were sure it would take you much longer!
Kyoka: I thought you said we'd get here around noon...
Mandalay: Sorry, we were thinking of our standard time. But you finished so quickly it's incredible!
After that, Pixie-Bob approached the boys and began to compliment them. Izuku then noticed the boy.
Izuku: "Hey, I've been wondering for a while... Is that boy the son of one of you two?
Mandalay turned to see Kota.
Mandalay: Oh! This is my nephew, Kota. Kota! Come over and say hello. You'll be spending the next week with them and you haven't introduced yourself yet?
Izuku smiled and approached.
Izuku: Hello, I'm Midoriya Izuku from U.A.'s hero course. Nice to meet you.
He extended his hand in a friendly gesture, only for the boy to completely ignore the greeting, raise his arm, and punch Izuku's jewels. A moment later, Kota looked up and saw that Izuku had caught his punch, with a frightening look on his face.
Izuku: What did you just try to do, BOY?
Kota flinched and quickly ran back into the house. Mandalay looked on in shock at her nephew's behavior.
Kyoka approached Izuku, poking him with her jacks. When he turned around, she had a teasing smile and a flush on her cheeks.
Kyoka: G-great job scaring the kid, Izuku.
-She couldn't help the smug smile that decorated her lips. It was a shame Izuku had learned to tease her.-
Izuku: Like I made you scared?
-His mocking tone made her turn red, and she attacked Izuku with her jacks, but he dodged.- Hey, I was just kidding! Although s-Pff!
He couldn't dodge one of her jacks this time.
Aizawa: Enough flirting. Grab all your stuff from the bus and take it to your rooms.
>>>
After collecting their luggage and placing them in their rooms, class A went to where the food was being served, they ate that food as if it were their last. After finishing dinner, they went to bathe in the hot springs, one side for men and the other for women, obviously.
Mineta: well, food isn't the most important thing. That's not what I came for.-he was standing in front of the wall with his hands on his hips.-What I want is on the other side. Listen, there they are.
Kaminari: what are you talking about, mineta?
They heard the sounds of girls relaxing in the hot springs and all the boys blushed knowing that only a wall was separating them. Izuku had his eyes closed and his arms resting on the rocks around him, thinking about that meeting with Kyoka.
Mineta: if this wall didn't exist... This world would be better-
Iida:Mineta, stop! This is disrespectfulBoth for the girls and for you!
Mineta: this Iida really sucks-a strange aura surrounded him as he grabbed one of his balls (lol).-
Izuku: what are you planning, Mineta?
Mineta:The walls were made... To be climbed!-at an impressive speed Mineta began to climb the walls while everyone was in shock at what he was about to do and see.PLUS ULTRAAAA!
In an instant he was about to achieve his goal, however, there was one factor that made him stop, and that factor was Izuku's black whip, which grabbed him by the leg. To make matters worse, a shadow hovered over him. It was Kota, the five year old looked at the suddenly nervous boy before him.
Kota: Hmph. Learn to be a decent human being before you try to be a hero.
And with that, he struck the pervert, causing him to fall, screaming. Unfortunately for him and Iida, he landed right on Iida's face.
Izuku: Nice one, Kota.
-He smiled at Mineta's punishment.-
Ashido: Mineta is really the worst, huh? Thanks, Kota!
She shouted, and Izuku watched as Kota turned, froze, and fainted at the edge of the wall. Everyone in the hot springs was startled to see Kota falling, but before he hit the ground, Izuku activated OFA and, at high speed, managed to catch Kota.
>>>>
After the incident at the hot springs, Kota was lying on the couch with his head resting on a pillow.
Mandalay: He fainted from fear after the fall. Thank you for saving him.
Izuku: Kota-kun has a negative view of heroes, doesn't he? It's unusual for a kid his age to think like that.
Mandalay looked sadly at the boy and sighed.
Mandalay: Indeed... There are naturally people in the world who don't like heroes. If he had had a normal upbringing... He'd probably love them.
Izuku: ''Normal''?
-he was obviously surprised.- Suddenly, the door opened, revealing Pixie-Bob with teacups.
Pixie-Bob: Mandalay's cousin... Kota's parents. They were heroes, but they were killed in the line of duty.
-She set the teacups on the table and stood by the door.-
Mandalay: Two years ago... They were protecting civilians from a villain. For a hero, there's no better way to die, but for a 5-year-old child... It's almost impossible to process.
Izuku continued to watch Kota, now understanding the situation the child had gone through.
Izuku: I understand...
Mandalay: For Kota, heroes are... something unpleasant.
-She adjusted the cloth on Kota's head, lost in thought.-
Anyway... Don't you want to put on some clothes?
>>>
The next morning, at 5:30 AM, we see Class A outside the house.
Aizawa: Good morning. Starting today, we'll begin intense training. The goal is to increase your individual strength so you can obtain your provisional licenses. It will be tough, so make an effort to overcome it. That said... Bakugou!
-He throws the ball from the fitness test.-
In the last test, your record was 705.2 meters. Let's see how far you can throw it now. 'I would have used the problem child for this demonstration, but the kid managed to hold back in that test.'
Bakugou: Alright! I'll show how much I've improved!
-He smiled, soaking the ball with sweat.-
DIE!
-He took his stance and threw the ball, the explosion propelling it with a trail of smoke.-
The distance was 709.6 meters, a slight increase over his previous record. This left most of the class shocked, except for Izuku, who was busy holding Kyoka's ears to prevent her from suffering any horrible consequences.
Aizawa: In three months, you've gained quite a bit of experience and definitely made progress, but the growth was only emotional and technical. As you all just saw, the improvement in your quirks hasn't kept up with this pace. That's why, starting today... You'll be honing your quirks! It's going to be really tough, so—
-A sadistic smile appeared on his face.-
Try not to die in the process, okay?
>>>
Class B: Improve our quirks...?
-They asked sleepily, an hour after Class A had already assembled.-
Vlad King: Of course. Class A is already doing that, so let's get moving.
-He said, aware of Aizawa's absence.-
They've had the spotlight on them every occasion during the first semester, now it's our turn. Not them, understood? It's going to be us!
Tetsutetsu/Awase: SENSEI! SORRY FOR NOT MAKING YOU PROUD!
-They shouted, remorseful, tears streaming from their eyes as they clenched their fists.-
Setsuna: Even asking to strengthen our quirks, there are twenty of us, each with different quirks... how are we all supposed to improve simultaneously?
-She asked curiously as they walked.-
Vlad King: Overusing muscles tears the fibers, but then they recover, becoming thicker and stronger. Quirks are the same! They get stronger with continuous use and weaker if not used regularly. Which means there's only one thing you need to do...
-Suddenly, they arrived at a clearing where Class A was undergoing what looked like hell.-
... PUSH YOUR LIMITS!
Shishida: T-this looks like a scene from hell!
-He shouted, shocked enough to drop his polite demeanor.-
Awase: This is bordering on torture, guys.
Class B members looked around anxiously, watching the rigorous training each member of their rival class was undergoing as they grew increasingly nervous. Every Class A student was going through their personal hell. They were pushing their quirks over and over, never taking a break, and stretching their limits. Anyone could envy their determination, if not for the tears and blood mixed in. Until someone noticed the absence of a certain green-haired man.
Kendo: Hey, where's Midoriya?
Everyone realized he wasn't there. Aizawa suddenly appeared with his usual bored look, pointing behind him towards a mountain.
Aizawa: As for him...
A huge crash was heard from the mountain as several large rocks were thrown several meters into the air, drawing everyone's attention. Several black tentacles suddenly appeared, grabbing the rocks and crushing them into dust in the blink of an eye.
Monoma: What the hell was that!? Po—!
-He quickly fell silent as Kendo gave him a look, raising her hand slightly.-
Aizawa: That was the problem child training. He's simply in a league entirely different from his peers, and because of that, he's training elsewhere. If you want to close that gap, you'll have to give it your all here. Normally, you would be doing all of this in proportion to your body's growth...
Vlad King: But there's no time for that.
-He concluded, walking towards Aizawa.-
Let's go, Class B.
Kendo: But we're forty now. As Setsuna asked earlier, how can you two supervise all of us and our quirks?
Aizawa: That's why we need them.
Pussycats: Exactly! We're an amazing quartet!
Mandalay: With shining eyes, we go all out!
Ragdoll: Giving a paw, we'll come to your rescue!
Tiger: No matter where or when, we'll be there...
Pixie-Bob: Cute, feline, and dangerous!
Quartet: Wild, wild Pussycats!
-They shouted, striking elaborate poses. Class B recognized Tiger and Ragdoll from when they met them on the cliff, but the other two were new to them.-
After that, they explained to Class B about their quirks and how they could help and train many students at once, outlining the best ways to advance their quirks in a short time.
>>>
Night fell, and all the UA hero course students were waiting for their meal after an intense training session that lasted for hours without stopping.
Pixie-Bob: Now, you'll be making your own food!
-The exhausted students were taken aback by her and Ragdoll.-
Ragdoll and Pixie-Bob showed them all the ingredients they had to work with. Iida saw this as a form of training and asked Izuku to motivate the class to make curry.
Mina: Todoroki! Can you use your fire here?
Todoroki: Sure.
-He approached the grill and lit it, starting to cook the meat.-
Kyoka: I'm still shocked that you can cook...
-She was chopping vegetables and meat while Izuku prepared the food, wearing an apron.-
You almost burned down your apartment frying an egg.
Izuku: I needed to learn; my mom couldn't do everything on her own, especially with Eri-chan.
-He turned to her.-
And you can't talk too much; you nearly killed us with your ramen...
Kyoka: Shut up.
After cooking, Class A ate the curry. From a distance, Kota watched their training, thinking it was a waste of time and decided to leave. Izuku noticed him as he headed towards his group.
>>>>
Kaminari: This is so good!
Ochako: I didn't know you guys could cook so well!
Everyone enjoyed the curry that Izuku prepared with Kyoka's help, although Bakugou's was better (according to Izuku himself).
Ashido: Hehehe! Even when cooking, you two are a perfect match!
Ashido kept nudging Kyoka, and the other girls started talking about it. They also mentioned that there would be a girls' night to share all their secrets, which made Kyoka blush. On the other hand, the boys were repeating how delicious the food was, praising their friend.
Kirishima: Midobro, you're amazing! Is there more?
-Looking around, he realized Izuku was no longer there. All that remained was his apron draped over the table.-
>>>>
On top of a mountain, Kota was sitting, admiring the stars. He was hungry but preferred to starve rather than be near those idiotic wannabe heroes.
Izuku: So this is where you were headed...
Kota turned and glared at him with anger when he realized who it was.
Kota: What do you want? If Aunt Mandalay sent you to find me, I'm not going!
Izuku shook his head and slowly approached the child, carrying a still-warm meal.
Izuku: No one sent me. I just noticed you wandering around alone before dinner, so I decided to bring you a meal.
Kota: I'm fine. I'm not hungry. I already said I don't want to be near you guys. Now, get out of my secret base!
-Although he said that, a few seconds later, his stomach rumbled at the smell of the curry. He blushed in embarrassment and turned his head to hide his expression with his hat. -
Izuku suppressed a laugh and looked around. It was a cave with a nice view of the camp. A truly admirable place.
Izuku: Your secret base, huh...
Kota: Putting all your effort into improving your quirks... You're just dumb teenagers trying to be heroes. Heroes aren't real. Sooner or later, they'll die and abandon you for people they don't even really know. That's not a hero...
-He seemed to deflate after speaking, his gaze lowered to the ground beneath his feet. -
Izuku closed the remaining distance, sat next to him, and placed the plate of curry on the ground. He offered the spoon to Kota.
Kota: I said I'm not hungry...
-He spoke in a defeated tone, taking the food and taking a bite. -
Izuku: I heard... But I decided to ignore it.
-He stated, letting Kota continue eating the meal in silence. -
I'll tell you a story, but don't tell anyone.
Izuku's words caught the child's attention. Though Kota wasn't looking, he was listening.
Izuku: Once upon a time, there was an innocent child who wished to be a hero more than anything, someone everyone would admire. But that child had no quirk, his best friend turned against him, his mother didn't believe in his dream, and his father died five years later in a hero vs. villain fight. That child began to suffer from everything: bullying, taunting, beatings... And he couldn't defend himself from any of it.
-A smile appeared. -
However, even at the age of four, he met someone who believed in him, and that one person changed him completely. From that day on, he had someone very special who made him believe in himself and in his dream, which now didn't seem entirely impossible. She was always there for him in his saddest moments..."
Kota was absorbed in the story but turned when Izuku got up.
Kota: What? Is that it? What a boring story!
Izuku turned with a hint of pride.
Izuku: And what were you expecting? I'm not a professional storyteller. And Kota, I'm not telling you to just get over it. I don't know what I'd do if something happened to my mom, Eri, or Kyoka, but I just want you to give us, these idiotic heroes, a chance to change things a little bit. Even if just a little.
His voice echoed in the child's mind. Kota shifted his gaze from the curry to Izuku's green eyes. He then lowered his head, his hat once again hiding his features from Izuku's view.
Kota: ...Q-quiet! Y-you can't bring my mommy and daddy back!
-He shouted, his voice breaking as he began to sob. -
Izuku: Unfortunately, that's true...
-He agreed. -
Your parents loved you and gave their lives not only to protect others but to make a better future for you.
Kota: I didn't want a future without them.
-He covered his eyes with one of his arms.-
Izuku knelt beside the child, placing a hand on Kota's head to gently comfort him. Kota did not push his hand away or swat at it. He sniffled a bit, doing his best to hold back his tears.
Izuku: It's okay to miss them, to cry about it, and to be sad. That's normal, that's human.
-He continued to softly stroke the top of Kota's head.-
However, don't let your pain over their loss become everything that defines your world, Kota-kun. There are still people who care about you; don't neglect or lose them.
Kota: ... It's not fair...
-He continued to sob quietly.-
Izuku: It never is.
He stayed by the child's side until the sobbing subsided, with Kota rubbing his eyes to dry the tears.
Kota: That doesn't mean we're friends...
Izuku: Hehe, of course.
-He laughed, agreeing.-
Kota: I still think wanting to be a hero is foolish...
-He sniffled, tugging at his hat.-
Izuku: Unfortunately, but understandable.
Kota: ... But..."
-He let the word hang in the air, his eyes fixed on Izuku's hand.-
I'll let you try to change what I think.
Izuku: That's all I ask, Kota-kun.
-He smiled as he stood up.-
Kota: Don't think I'm easy to persuade or deceive! You'll have to work hard and you can't die!
Izuku: Don't worry, Kota-kun.
-He playfully ruffled the top of the boy's head.-
But I'll see what I can do. My nickname is being the hero who never gives up.
Izuku then turned and disappeared, leaving Kota to think alone.
Kota: ... Idiot...
-He had a small smile.-
>>>
In the few days that followed, the training sessions grew more intense, but the students managed to cope with it, realizing that their self-confidence had increased and their spirit was unshakeable. Before they knew it, three days had already passed.
Aizawa: Well, today you'll have your final training. We'll see how much you've progressed and the results of your training.
-Everyone was excited to show how much they had improved.-
Yaoyorozu: Are we going to show the professional heroes what we're capable of?
Kirishima: I think we'll have a strength competition! How manly!
Bakugou: I'm going to show who here is the best!
Mineta: It's time to show the girls what Mineta can do!
Kyoka: 'Where is he?'
Everyone was speculating about what they would do to demonstrate the results of their training.
Aizawa: None of that. All of you...
-A figure was walking in their direction.-
...Will fight together against your classmate, Izuku Midoriya.
Everyone was shocked and frightened, most of them swallowing hard.
Sero: What kind of lame joke is this?
Yaoyorozu: We're not prepared for this...
Mineta: We're going to die!
Aizawa: Don't worry, he won't use his extra abilities.
Meanwhile, Kyoka, even with her enhanced hearing, thought she must have heard wrong. After all, she didn't want to face the person who fought against All Might and won.
Kyoka: 'We're screwed...'
Izuku: I hope you're all excited... Because I am!
