I kept my eyes on the chat, and the smile on my face as I typed.
*G : "Where are you?"*
It didn't take very long before my phone blared out her notification ringtone of Jimin's voice shouting "Taehyung-ssi!"
*S : "Yah, look up!"*
My smile widened even more, when I did. Steph stood there at the bus stop, waving at me.
I waved back and speedwalked up the slope leading to the bus stop.
There was another girl there with Steph, one with whom she appeared to be having an intriguing conversation. I could tell, because you would know if Stephanie lost interest in the words coming out of your mouth.
Stephanie was politely smiling and nodding, while the girl threw her hands about like she was explaining some sort of contemporary dance move.
And I, sounded extremely judgemental in my head. I saw Steph offer a few words of her own, seemingly in approval of whatever the girl had just spoke, and the curious cat in me twitched its ears, for want.
I stopped for a bit, and cleared my thoughts before approaching the two of them. Besides, I was way too happy and excited to let a little bestfriend jealousy get in the way.
I would have jumped Steph right away, and started hyping about the events that went down this evening, but I was raised better.
I sidestepped the girl and tapped Steph on the shoulder.
"Heya, stranger. Watcha doing?"
I plastered on my smug face as the new girl raised her eyebrows at me, and Steph didn't miss a beat.
"Hello, stranger. You're late."
"Sorry about that, but something came up."
Steph got a tell tale interest in her eyes, but before she could enquire about it, New girl popped into the conversation with an out of place chuckle.
"Are you two strangers familiar with each other?"
And Steph turned to answer her instead.
"Unfortunately, yes. Cathy, meet Grace Sharlene Noel, the less savage and more cute version of myself.
Cathy smiled at me in greeting, but turned to Steph again.
"She's your sister?"
"Oh heavens, No! She's my best friend, well mostly I'm hers."
She then turned to me, before I could retort to that statement, a mocking smile already on her face.
"Gra-aace, this is Catherine Yang, my new co-worker and fellow recruit from the new programme we've been drafted into."
Honestly, I did not mean to over look the girl's introduction, but there were more important things being included in the conversation just now.
"New programme??? So you were chosen! The presentation was the bomb after all! I knew it! OMIGOSH, you did it Steph!"
Steph tried to appear unfazed by it, but the pride shone pretty evidently on her face as she waved me off.
I noticed Cathy's head fall a bit, from the corner of my eye and instantly felt guilty.
"Catherine! Congratulations as well," I held a hand out and put on a genuine smile for her.
She hesitated for just a wink, before she took my hand and giggled out a Thankyou.
"So, as I was telling Steph, this calls for a celebration! All our team members are having a little get-to-know at a nearby bar, you're welcome to come along too, Grace!"
I knew by her invitation that it was all very honest, but I never excelled in being a third wheel.
"Nah, that's fine. You guys should go though! Achieving dreams is by all means a valid excuse for festivities."
I had been looking forward to spending the rest of the evening with Steph and going off all about our day today, but I guess it would have to wait. Besides, Steph deserved this.
I had just met the man of my dreams, the quite literal man of my dreams, but all the emotions that had come out of it was fading away now.
Steph looked like she was ready to argue with my opinion, but just then a bus arrived and Cathy was already tugging her towards it. I gave her a wave, and a 'Call-me' sign and began to walk off, before my disappointment started to show.
Kim Taehyung could wait. Tonight was Steph's celebratory night!
I decided to walk to the next closest bus stand, when-
"And just where do you think you're going, Oh most honourable and selfless maiden?"
My eyes popped at the voice, and I turned around to find Steph standing there with her hands crossed over her chest.
"Steph! Cathy-"
"Can wait. Besides, I'll have all the time and more to "get-to-know" the people I'm gonna be working with."
She rolled her eyes so far backwards, that her expression bordered along acutely possessed. But I knew she was being honest about not really wanting to go.
I smiled first, and then grinned wider.
"You're like a puppy, you know? It only takes so much to get you to go from depressed and dying to happy and high."
I skipped over to her and looped my arm with hers.
"Oh, I know. In addition to my irresistible cuteness."
"Don't push it."
I stuck my tongue out at her. We took a turn from the sidewalk, and met with a department store.
"Before you can ask! Yes, let's go in. I'm kinda hungry too."
I loved my bestfriend. She read minds. Or atleast just mine.
So, basically! I loved grocery shopping. Especially when it's somewhere near or around pay day. There's an incomparable satisfaction in grabbing everything you want to eat, and just dropping it in the cart without second thoughts.
And also, the bigger the supermarket, the better. Imagine all the aisles you could check out!
Steph was always on the grabbing duty, and she made me push the cart, owing to my poor attentiveness. The last time I was on grabbing duty, I lost Steph in the store and proceeded to drop things into the nearest carts I found. Let's just say, none of the customers wanted a repeat of that day.
Steph got an official call the moment we set foot into the store, so I grabbed the cart and started off at the first aisle, which had all the vegetables lined up.
Boring. But Steph could not live without her greens, so I decided to wait there for her.
I took out my phone and saw quite a number of notifications. There were a couple of messages on our group, and Michelle and Hannah had personally texted me as well.
The number of messages got me concerned, and I texted both of them back. But neither of them were online.
I was still staring at my phone when Steph walked over, holding her phone at wierd angles and peering into the screen.
"Can the aliens hear you yet?"
"Yeah, they were pretty impressed with my offer. They're coming to collect you tonight, in return for unlimited free WiFi."
"Hey! That's too cheap."
"Okay I'll ask them to throw in the newest MacBook Pro with installed tools and apps."
"Hmm...slightly better."
"Dang, this stupid cell service!"
I took a look into her phone.
"You're calling Michi?" Michi was short for Michelle.
"She videocalled me first. But it wouldnt connect properly."
Just when Steph cut the call to try again, her phone lit up once more with a video call.
"Michi's calling! Pick up! Pick up!"
It took a couple of seconds after clicking on the receive button for the screen to load, but it finally showed Michi, grinning at us with all 32 teeth.
And she wasn't alone.
"Hannah!!! You're here too!!"
Sure enough, the little bug was waving at me from beside Michi.
"Sharky! Stephy!"
Steph was grinning too, at being called Michi's term of endearment.
It was such an overwhelming sense of joy, seeing the two of them after quite sometime, that the words were out of my mouth before I knew what I was saying. But right then, Steph decided to speak something as well.
"Hannah! I met Taehyung!"
"I met Jungkook, Michi!"
The moment the two of us finished our exclamations, our heads whipped to face each other and we yelled in unison, for the whole supermarket to hear.
"YOU WHAT?!"
