Sasaki Hikari (佐々木 ひかり) is one of the main protagonists of the original Inazuma Eleven series. First introduced in Inazuma Eleven 2: Kyoui no Shinryakusha, she initially played as both a midfielder and forward.

In the alternate timeline of Inazuma Eleven Ares no Tenbin, she is the captain and a forward for Hayama. She later becomes a manager for Inazuma Japan in Inazuma Eleven Orion no Kokuin.

Appearance

Hikari is a teenage girl with round green eyes and brown hair tied up in a high-side ponytail with pink and white ribbons. She's considered an elegant type of character and is also undeniably cute. Hikari is an extremely shy girl who tends to stutter and blush madly whenever a stranger approaches her, causing many boys to try and hit on her throughout the series.

Her usual clothes consist of a long-sleeved pink jacket over a plain, white shirt with a thin brown belt. She also wears a light blue skirt with white ruffled layers underneath, white crew socks with white high-tops with pink shoelaces, and pink soles. After joining Raimon, she's seen wearing their uniform and jersey for the most time. When she was young, she wore a light pink hoodie, light blue skirt, and pink Mary Jane shoes with white socks. Her hair was noticeably shorter, reaching her shoulders and tying it into a single high-side ponytail.

In Inazuma Eleven GO, her hair becomes shorter, hanging down to her shoulders, appearing unkempt and stroked with two longer locks falling on both sides of her face. She now wears a brown top underneath a long-sleeved white vest along with a pair of red pants associated with a brown belt and brown shoes.

In the alternate timeline of Inazuma Eleven Ares no Tenbin, her hair and eye color are slightly brighter. Hikari's casual clothes consist of a beige bolero worn over a light pink top, a pink skirt that's darker in shade with white ruffled layers underneath, white ankle-length socks, and a pair of white sneakers.

Hikari is usually shy, quiet and she often gets embarrassed easily around her classmates and her two childhood friends Katsura Sae and Yoshino Makoto. She is actually really friendly and was able to get along with the members of Raimon very well. One of Hikari's many dreams is to draw manga and she usually scribbles drawings in her notebooks and can be very passionate about what she loves, freaking out about her favorite manga or anime merch. She's very bubbly and kind of an airhead at times and is often incredibly blunt without being aware of it. Her reactions tend to be exaggerated and humorous: She often becomes amused at certain personality traits and shoots others exhibit, bursting into laughter at times, which she tries to suppress.

Hikari is a very warm, lively individual who thinks about everything positively, though she is objective enough to see flaws and virtues. She is empathetic in general, friendly to those she meets, and will try to help or defend anyone who is kind to her or who needs assistance. She seems to be very good at reading people, understanding the reasons for Fubuki Shirou's existential crisis or when the normally calm Gouenji was angry. Her empathy and kindness are also seen in how well she gets along with her teammates. She is on good terms with everyone and is particularly close friends with several members of the team, including Endou, Fubuki, Touko, and so on.

Despite her usually cheery and sometimes ditzy demeanor, Hikari can take on an extremely determined, focused, and somewhat intimidating attitude when the situation calls for it. This side of her personality can come as a surprise to those who are used to her generally bubbly nature. While she is shown to be surprisingly strategic, she isn't above making some impulsive or reckless decisions. When it comes to her chosen path as a player, Hikari is unwavering and dislikes being underestimated, even in the face of an overwhelming force.

Hikari is also trying to live up to her beautiful and talented sister, Sasaki Rin, which is the main reason she has trouble making friends in school. Though she carries many dreams, she sees herself as unable to achieve any of them and has low self-esteem, and is insecure about herself. She has no confidence in anything she does, describing it as being not good enough and living under the shadow of her sister. She carries a lot of trauma due to her past of bullying but tries to mask the pain with a smile. However, Hikari started to have faith in herself after she joined Raimon. After realizing that everyone and even her own sister has their own problems, she started to work harder towards her dreams and became a girl who believes anything is possible if she tries.

In Ares no Tenbin, Hikari had a drastic personality change. She becomes a quiet, aloof, and serious character who rarely shows any emotion because of the constant abuse she suffered. This was highly noticeable when Fubuki Shirou spoke to her alone for a few days before the match between Hakuren and Hayama. She'd wear a blank expression on her face and prefers to only speak with others when it's necessary, resulting in some of her teammates calling her a "robot." As a captain, she's extremely serious and devoted to guiding her team to victory regardless of anything, resulting in her being unable to feel the joy of any game. However, after the match against Hakuren, she stated that it was the first time she had much fun and smiled weakly. By the time she became a manager for Inazuma Japan, she became more sociable and talkative, smiling more between other people and making friends, reverting back to her personality in the original timeline.
