Getting Ready
After I leave Auntie's house I decide to go back to uncle Aleck's shop and get ready for the Queen's ball. I walk inside uncle's shop and I look at Mary.
" Mary, could you help me get ready for the ball?" I ask her. She nods.
" I'll be glad to help you," she says.
We go up stairs to my room and we rummage through my trunk, trying to find one of my fancy dresses. She finds a light pink one. I look at it, funny I don't remember ever getting a pink dress. Mother and father knew that I always did despise that color.
" Emily, I thought you hated the color pink?" She says. I look a her.
" Your right I hate that color, I wonder how it got in there," I say. I look at it, my mother liked pink, " It must be my mother's dress, It must have gotten mixed in with my stuff,"
" Do you want to keep looking?" Mary asks. I look at her, and then at the dress. I pick up the dress and noticed how big it was in the waist.
" Mary, I think this is a pregnancy dress my mother had," Mary laughs and I join her in her laughter.
" Well now you have a pregnancy dress, incase you become pregnant," I stop laughing, and frown.
" Mary, don't even joke about that, I'm not even ready to become a mother," her laughter stops then she hugs me.
" Oh Emily, I was only kidding," she says and I smile, " Well let's keep looking for a dress shall we?" She says. I nod, then after looking for a little while longer, I find the perfect dress. It is blue with purple designs on it. It was one of my mother's dresses, that she gave me before she got sick. Mary looks at the dress in awe.
" Oh Emily, it's so beautiful, but you don't have a cage that goes under it," I smile. I place the dress flatly on my bed.
" Well, I never saw the appeal of them," I say. Mary shrugs. I walk into my closet and look for my black boots. Once I find them, I place them next to my bed. I see it is getting dark outside. Mary looks at me.
" Emily, you need to get ready," she says, and I start to get my dress of.
" I know," I wave her out, and once I was in my gown I call Mary back in. Once she sees me she gasps.
" Oh my, you look so gorgeous," I smile.
" You really think so?" I ask, she puts her hands on her hips.
" I now so," she answers, " Now, what do we do with your hair?" She asks. I look at her.
" Do I really need it up? I like it better down," I pout. Mary frowns at me.
" Well we need to do something with it," she says. Then her face lights up, " How about a we put it up in a braided bun?" She suggests. I nod in approval. Mary sits me down in a chair, and styles my hair. Once she is done, I look in the mirror. She puts it up flawlessly, it was a stiff bun with a few strand of hair falling from the sides of my face. I smile.
" I love it," I say, and Mary jumps up in down with glee.
" Oh, I just knew you would," she smiles. Then I walk up to my bed and get my boots and put them on. By the time I finally get dressed it is already dark outside and, I hear my father calling me down.
"Coming," call down to him. I walk down the stairs, father smiles once he sees me. He walks up to me and Erik looks at me in awe.
" You look just like your mother with that dress on," he smiles. I look up at him.
" You really think I do?" I ask. He puts his hand on my shoulder.
" I know you do, every time I look at you I see her in your eyes," his expression saddens. I hug him, at first he is surprised. But then he hugs me back.
" I miss her so much papa," I say. I realise I haven't called him 'papa' in so long. After I say it he hugs me tighter.
" I know, I do too," I a few tears rolling down his face. I have never seen him cry before. But then he breaks our hug and wipes the tears from his eyes, and he weakly smiles, " We should get going," I sigh and follow him and Erik to the carriage.
