Chapter 10
White or black?" I asked Valerie, holding up two different semi-conservative shirt options. It was Halloween, the day of the gig, and I was just about shitting my pants.
"I mean this in the nicest way possible, and I mean that, but neither." She scrunched her face up in thought, before jumping off of my bed to her feet and dashing out of the room. "I have an idea. Be right back!"
I huffed and dropped to the floor on my back, glaring at the ceiling as if it were to blame for my lack of rockstar clothing.
"Why are you on the floor?" Zane asked, peeking his head into my door.
"I'm stressed," I whined, clapping my hands over my eyes.
He sat down beside me and laid back to look at my bedroom ceiling. We laid in silence for a minute, before I felt his eyes land on me. I slowly lifted my hands off of my eyes and shifted my head to look at him.
"Will a kiss make it better?" He asked, flashing me a pout.
"Shut the fuck up," I laughed, pushing his face away from me.
"Tried my best! Well, we have to leave in 30, so hurry your shit up."
Valeria rushed back in. "Listo!" She wiggled her shoulders and held up a pair of black leather pants and a red long sleeve crop top with a twist in between the boobs that could barely be considered a shirt.
"Aye, I like that," Zane said, trying to grab the shirt. Valeria whipped it away from him.
"Get out!" Both Valeria and I shrieked. He held up his hands and backed out of the room.
"Now try it on!" Valeria hopped up and down excitedly.
"I don't know, I'm not sure if it's really me, like can I even pull this off? I-"
"Shut up and put this shit on."
"Yes ma'am," I nodded obediently and did what she asked. I did a little twirl for her, and she squealed and clapped.
"Gorgeous! Those boys will have their jaws touching the floor!" She cheered.
"Alright, fine you win. I look hot as fuck." I sighed, staring at my reflection in the mirror. Valeria even did my makeup for me, mastering my eyeliner like I would never be able to do.
By the time she was done pampering me, it was time for us to leave. We left my room and found all the boys waiting for us in the living room. "About fucking time," Finn grumbled, looking up at our entrance.
I glanced up at Bishop, but he was already looking at me, scanning my body, his mouth slightly ajar. I tried not to blush. His eyes caught mine, and he ripped his away from me.
"Lookin' fine as hell, Vienna," Zane said approvingly, as he jumped up from the couch. "Now let's hit the road!"
We all hooted and hollered, rushing into the elevator and down to Bishop's dad's truck, which was already all loaded up. We all got into it, including Valeria and Danny.
"Danny, are you even going to be able to get into this club?" I asked, after he had climbed into the passenger seat, with Valeria between him and Finn. I sat in the backseat between Bishop and Zane.
"Yes," he responded incredulously.
"Pffff. With a sticker on his hand," Bishop corrected, slapping his brother's chest.
He waved his brother off. "Shut up."
Finn pulled the truck away from the curb, and my stomach rolled with nerves. Valeria reached back and touched my arm. "You okay? You're looking a little, um, green?"
I didn't say anything, instead just staring straight ahead out the windshield. Everyone turned to look at me. "Eh, she's probably fine. She did this last time too," Zane said, waving his hand in front of my eyes.
"Well, do I need to pull over or what?" Finn demanded angrily.
Bishop put his hand on my leg. "Vienna?" He asked softly. "You're okay, just breathe, we're gonna be good."
I nodded slightly, biting my lip. I felt a little bit of color return to my face.
But then my eyes widened and Bishop held up a bag he found at his feet just in time for me to throw up my guts into. Everyone in the car groaned, and Danny yelled at Bishop to make sure he got it all in the bag.
Once I was finished, I sat back up and wiped my mouth, tears in my eyes. "Knew I should've pulled over," Finn grumbled.
"I'm sorry, guys," I said sheepishly, staring at the floor. "Thank you, Bishop."
Bishop was still holding the bag out to me. "Uh what do I do with it now?"
Finn pulled into an empty parallel spot on the side. "Get rid of it," he commanded angrily.
Bishop held the bag at an arms length and went to toss it into the closest trash can.
"I was more so talking about getting rid of the cause of the mess, but I guess that will have to do," Finn said.
"I said I'm sorry," I grumbled, as Bishop got back in the car and we took off down the road again.
It wasn't long until we pulled up to the venue. We stopped in front to unload our equipment, before Finn drove off to find us a parking spot. There were already plenty of people inside the club, which didn't help my nerves at all. I scanned the room, once again feeling bile rise in my throat. Valeria tapped me on the shoulder and pressed a double shot of tequila into my hand.
"I love you," I said earnestly, throwing back the shot with extreme urgency.
"Vienna!" Bishop called, making his way back over to me. "Look, I didn't know you were gonna be so nervous for this, and I really hope this isn't gonna make you even more nervous, but, um, I have a surprise for you."
I handed the now-empty shot glass back to Valeria. "A surprise? What kind of surp-"
That's when a woman stepped out of the crowd behind Bishop. My jaw immediately dropped. "Aunt Talia?!" I shrieked, launching myself at her. She laughed and squeezed me tight. "What are you doing here?" I pulled back to check that it was really her one more time.
"Your friend invited me. No way I wanted to miss your first real concert. I'm so excited to see you guys play!"
"Oh god. Aunt Talia, I am so nervous. I basically threw up in Bishop's lap during the car ride here," I whined.
"Well that's not the way to a man's heart, love!" Aunt Talia teased.
"Yeah, it was not pretty," Valeria chimed in. She reached over me and held out her hand. "I'm Valeria, their neighbor across the hall. It's so nice to meet you."
"Talia. Nice to meet you too. I've heard a lot about all of you!" She turned to face me again. "Look, kid, you're gonna be fucking great. I know you didn't make me come all this way for you to blow chunks on stage. Now get up there and show this city what you're made of." She said it very manner of factly, giving me no room to argue.
I felt Bishop's hands on my shoulders, and he shook me a little. "What she said, let's fucking go!"
I tried to give my aunt and Valeria one last hug, but Zane came by and picked me up, dragging me away from the girls. "Let's go, Vi! It's showtime."
The guys had already set the equipment up when I got backstage. A guy got on stage and announced us, and then the lights were shining in my eyes, and the music was blaring. I tried to step up to the microphone, but tripped on a cord in the process and almost fell off the stage. Luckily, I caught myself and only faced a couple of laughs from the audience, with one guy near the front yelling, "Get that girl off stage!"
I cut a glance across stage, first at Bishop, then at Finn. Bishop copied my wide-eye look, and Finn actually cracked a smile and gave me an almost laugh-like exhale. Zane cued me in again, and we were off, starting with the original that Bishop and I had written.
Now, I know that I may be a bit biased, but let me tell you, we fucking rocked. Sure, there were some bumps in the road. Like when Zane took an unexpected solo and kind of cut Finn off. Or when I forgot a line to a new song and Bishop had to help fill in for me. It wasn't all smooth sailing, but the crowd seemed to enjoy it, and it was really fun.
When our two hours were up, we jumped off the stage, sweaty and tired, but so hyped up on adrenaline that I felt like I could be up all night. My aunt and Valeria immediately rushed up to us, cheering and hugging everyone.
"You guys were amazing!" Valeria shrieked in my ear, spilling half of her drink on me.
I ignored my now wet top and just yelled a quick 'thank you' back. And then we were swept off back towards the bar, with people clapping us on our backs the whole way. We did several rounds of celebratory shots, and Valeria, Aunt Talia, and I danced our asses off. The boys basically had to drag us out of there, when it was finally time to go.
While Danny drove all of us home, I felt like I was on top of the world. I rolled down the window and stuck my head out, laughing all the way. "Get her back in the car," Finn groaned, looking back at me from the passenger seat.
I coughed and spluttered, yanking my head back in the car. "Swallowed a bug?" Bishop asked.
"Yep," I said, grimacing and wiping off my mouth.
"I can't believe we made 500 bucks tonight," Zane said, shaking his head.
"Too bad you spent $100 of it on drinks," Danny grumbled disappointedly.
"Fuck," I said under my breath, and we all broke out laughing.
