Chapter 1

Roman heard a familiar laugh. A laugh that made him want to smile, no matter what. He kept cleaning his slightly bloodied sword, smiling slightly.

"Hi Storm Cloud." He said. There was a sound of mock disappointment from behind him.

"Aw, thought I'd finally snuck up on you, Princey." Virgil said, leaning against a tree and twirling a lily through his pale fingers.

Roman laughed slightly, standing up and facing the other prince. "You're going to have to try harder than that to sneak up on me."

"Another princess?" Virgil asked, indicating to Roman's sword. Roman nodded and Virgil laughed again. "Honestly, how are you still single? You must've rescued every princess in the whole kingdom." Roman was too busy avoiding looking Virgil in the eye to notice the slight spark of grey hurt in them.

"Well, maybe I'm not looking for a princess." Roman said, a slight flirtatious edge to his voice as he slipped his sword back into its holster. Virgil rolled his eyes.

"Easy Princey. We all know you're gay as Hell." Virgil said, slipping the lily behind his ear. Roman pouted dramatically.

"I thought that was for me." He said in a babyish voice, making Virgil laugh out-right instead of just snicker.

"I'm sure you got a much better reward from the you princess you saved. Now, if you excuse me, your Highness," Virgil mock-bowed, "Logan wants me to continue my studies."

Roman raised his hand in a half wave as Virgil turned and walked away. He waited until the other prince had rounded the corner before letting out a sigh of longing. How was Prince Virgil so perfect all the time? His charcoal hair always hung in his eyes, the very tips of his fringe coloured dark purple, his grey eyes always conveyed more than words could and he wore dark make-up underneath his eyes. His dark purple tunic, black leggings and black cape finished of the slightly intimidating look. Although Prince Virgil looked a little scary, he really cared about his friends. You just had to get to know him first. Roman wished he could like him back.

Roman hadn't been in love with Virgil from the moment he'd seen him, that was unrealistic, but he'd definitely felt something upon seeing Virgil for the first time. Something he could only call intrigue. This prince had intrigued him. That intrigue had led to friendship which had then caused Roman to develop feelings as he realised what a wonderful person Virgil actually was.

Roman had always had his head in the clouds to some extent but now he was constantly zoning out, imagining saving Virgil in some way. Not like that would ever happen.

Logan peaking over the bush he was hiding behind, hushing his rather giggly friend and hiding companion. Patton clapped a hand over his mouth in an attempt to muffle his giggles.

"Patton, be quiet." Logan whispered curtly. Patton nodded and swallowed his giggles, crouching beside Logan to peak through the bush too.

Virgil walked away from Roman who followed Virgil with his eyes and then looked up to the sky, spinning around in a circle. Patton and Logan were too far away to hear anything but Patton could safely guess that Roman was probably sighing, pining after the other prince.

"So?" Patton whispered. "What's the verdict on Virgil?"

"Oh, he's got it bad." Logan whispered back, confirming Patton's suspicions. "The amount of times he's zoned out on classes, it's really quite-"

"Logan, can we focus on the romance here?" Logan nodded, clearing his throat slightly in embarrassment. "Roman's definitely in love with Virgil." Patton reported.

"Why can't they just confess? It would put an end to this whole hiding-and-spying ordeal." Logan asked.

"They're shy, Logan."

"Prince Roman is anything but shy." Logan said, scoffing quietly.

"That's not what I mean." Patton said, sighing at his friend's inability to recognise the side-effects that came with some human emotions. "You've seen them, Logan. They've been flirting back and forth for weeks but neither of them think the other means any of it."

"Well, we'll just have to do this ourselves then." Logan muttered, shooting a glance at Patton. Patton caught on and grinned.

Roman woke up and stretched, rubbing his eyes. The only reason he got up so early in the mornings is because he knew that if he didn't, his twin would wake him up in a rather... cold way. He quickly swapped his pyjamas out for a white shirt, red sash, brown trousers, a red cape and black boots. Carefully placing his golden crown on his almost perfect hair completed the look. Looking out of his window, which was directly above the garden, he decided to take a walk.

"Oh Storm Cloud." Roman said, knocking on Virgil's door.

There was no answer. Roman tried again.

"Storm Cloud?"

Still no answer. Roman knocked again, a sliver of panic creeping into his chest.

"Storm Cloud? Hello? Virgil? You there?"

Nothing. Roman banged on the door with the side of his fist.

"Virgil?" He asked, the panic apparent in his voice.

Not a sound. Roman rattled the door handle and, to his surprise, the door opened.

The room was dark, the curtains hadn't been opened. But Roman could still see that the bed-covers were thrown back and that the room was in shambles. There were clothes all over the floor and the bookshelf had been knocked over, flinging books everywhere. On top of a fairy-tale book by the bed, there was a small slip of paper. A note.

Want to see your precious prince again? Come find him.
