Chapter Seven

Marshall's home was bleak, if it wasn't for the nurses touch than the house would've been darker. The curtains wouldn't've been opened on a routine base, dishes would've piled up in the kitchen, places that Marshall didn't touch would've been covered in thick layers of dust.

Marshall gave them credit for keeping him moving.

"Marshall, if you could be any animal. What would you be?" Asked the tough guy sitting across from him at the kitchen table.

Marshall looked up from his bowl of cereal, he didn't understand how this man sitting across from him could be a nurse, he looked like he could belong in a bikie gang. Gang like tattoo's covered the male's neck, while the man's arms were kept covered with a long sleeved black shirt and a grey vest, his legs were covered in long black trousers.

The man's blonde hair was pulled back into a braid that ended at the middle of his back.

"I'd be a dog." Marshall finally mustered up the courage to speak.

"Nice choice. Protective creatures." The male nurse nodded "I'd be a dolphin."

"His fun, Marshall." Larna pushed herself off the wall "I'd be a jellyfish." She smirked.

"What about." The male nurse thought for a moment "If you could spend the day with someone, living or dead. Who would it be?"

Marshall looked past the male nurse, as if he could see Larna standing behind the man "Larna."

The male nurse lowered his head, nodded slightly before looking up at Marshall "Mine would be Bob Hawke."

"Who?" Marshall turned his attention back to the man sitting in front of him.

"An Australian politician, seemed like a cool guy. Probably just thank him for a lot of things." The male nurse smiled. "Can I ask you a question?"

"I thought you already were." Marshall placed his spoon down on the table.

"No, I mean. What's the deal with you? I babysit a lot of different people but you're not like any of them. So, what's your story." The male nurse curiously asked.

Marshall didn't respond, he wasn't sure how to.

"Just tell him, Marshall. He seems like a nice guy." Marshall heard Larna's voice in his head.

"My friend disappeared, and I went crazy." Marshall smiled; he wasn't sure why he was smiling but he was.

"No, seriously."

"My friend disappeared, and I went crazy." Marshall repeated himself with the same strange smile.

The male nurse was curious about Marshall, he had only meet Marshall twice before, but this time felt different. This was the first time Marshall was talking in return "Am I allowed to ask about your friend?"

Marshall rose from his seat, he looked past the male nurse.

"There's nothing to know about me." Larna shrugged as she smiled at her friend.

Marshall dropped his attention back to the male nurse "You already know everything about her." He picked up his bowl and spoon before walking into the kitchen.

Marshall carefully placed his bowl and spoon into the kitchen sink, he moved his gaze out the kitchen window. He saw a spider trying to create a web amongst the tree branches.

"Do you ever think that spiders look at humans and go 'I'd totally kill that'?"

Marshall smirked a little as he tried to hide his laughter "She had a curious mind, but a sad upbringing." He let the words slip from his mouth "Her father abused her; her mother was always yelling." Marshall shook his head as he tried to keep his gaze on the spider "I was her freedom; she was safe with me, and I was safe with her. The first time she ran away from her home, I found her hiding in a treehouse several doors down from her house." He sighed "Her father eventually found her hiding spot, I made the mistake of not being careful when I visited the tree house." Marshall sighed again. He watched as the spider twitched it's legs.

"Do you think she blamed you?"

Marshall hadn't realised the male nurse was standing behind him in the kitchen entrance. He turned around "Reg, right?"

"Reginald but yes, Reg."

"Well, Reginald. Larna didn't blame me, she blamed herself. She blamed herself for going to that tree house, she blamed herself for allowing herself to be caught."

Larna looked carefully at Reginald, she studied the way he stood, the way he was looking at Marshall.

She could sense he was trying to take in this information, possibly to pass it onto Doctor Snapell.

Marshall followed his friend's gaze, as if she was standing in the kitchen next to Reginald.

Larna turned her attention to Marshall "I'm not a secret, Marshall. You can talk about me. I just want you to remember me, remember me the way I want you to. Remember, the girl that would always listen to you." She turned her attention to Reginald "A sweet man, his just trying to help. Everyone is trying to help you. You shouldn't stop them, instead let them." She reached out to touch Reginald's face but stopped herself.

Marshall's face quickly changed, he felt like he couldn't see Larna standing next to Reginald.

"Breath, Marshall, Breath." Reginald could see the way that Marshall was reacting, he believed the poor guy was having an anxiety attack "Listen to my voice, Marshall. Just breath."

Marshall inhaled and slowly exhaled, as Larna had taught him when had first escaped something like this. He continued to inhale and slowly exhale as he looked up at the empty space that he thought Larna had stood.
