I stretched as I stared into the campfire before glancing up at Atlas who was examining his arrows. Charlotte and Delilah had fallen asleep a few hours ago, Delilah had gathered up a pile of leaves and flopped down on top of them. Charlotte, however, chose to fall asleep up against a tree.

If she isn't sleeping in a strange position she instead tries to find the hardest surface possible.

I let out a sigh as her tail flailed around before I caught it holding it still.

It's like trying to control a dog when it knows you have a treat.

I looked over at Atlas when he chuckled. "What are you laughing at?" I asked as I scowled at him.

"Just how you and Charlotte treat each other. It's interesting, to say the least. Is that how you treated all of your contracts?" He asked looking genuinely curious.

I rolled my eyes. "I tend to stay with my contracts for years so of course, you think my methods seem a bit strange compared Delilah's methods. After a long time with a contract you start to get used to almost everything about them, it's just a part of the job," I explained.

"I would assume so. Although I do enjoy Delilah's eccentric-ness, it's calming and entertaining in a strange way," he told me as he let out a small chuckle.

It was my turn to let out a chuckle, "You have strange taste in women especially, if you find Delilah of all people calming. It's like having a small dog that will never shut up and probably drugged your coffee with a hallucinogenic mushroom."

"Wow, you're really holding a grudge about that age thing. But Delilah's not that bad, sure she tends to attack before thinking but she knows when to hold herself back. If she didn't my mother would be impaled on a tree branch," Atlas told me.

"Didn't she nearly impale her on multiple tree branches?" I reminded him.

"Well, if you've known Charlotte for years how did you treat her family? I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a good person for summoning Delilah but, then again anyone who summons a creature like you or her has got to have their reason. So what was Charlotte's," he told me.

I froze as he spoke, releasing Charlotte's tail allowing it to flail around. Then I let out a heavy sigh as I glared at him.

"You are a fucking idiot. Did Delilah tell you about any of the rules we abide by when you summoned her or, were you too busy staring at her tits jiggling in your face? I can't tell you something like that especially if it's one of the reasons she summoned me. Besides, that is none of your fucking business," I snapped at him.

Atlas looked at me with wide eyes. "Okay, I'm...sorry I asked," he whispered.

I chose to ignore him as I stared into the fire. Before long though Atlas had also gone to sleep.

When Charlotte's tail started flicking against me I broke out of my daze looking over at her. She was tossing and turning in her sleep, letting out small growls as she curled into a small ball.

Nightmares again?

"They started later than usual tonight," I whispered. I reached out toward her head demonic energy gathered in my hand.

Before I could even touch her a shimmering barrier came up zapping my hand and dispelling my demonic energy. I shuddered and gritted my teeth as the shocks ran through my body.

It took me only a few seconds to realize who's energy it was sticking to Charlotte. "Fucking Kessel," I growled as I glanced back at her.

I took a deep breath as I looked at Charlotte, a scowl on my face.

Why in the hell does she have Kessel's energy attached to her?

I glared at Charlotte and for the first time in a long time, I felt like I barely knew her.

I reached out slowly with my demonic energy once again gathered in my hand and spread it along the length of my arm.

There's a barrier in her memories that I've never noticed before. Kessel definitely put it there but when?

I reached forward the barrier coming up again almost instantly. As I forced my hand through it the barrier started sending blue sparks everywhere. The moment I laid my hand on Charlotte, however, the barrier cracked violently like someone stepping on a mirror.

A moment later it dispersed leaving behind nothing more than a small blue haze.

Charlotte sat up and looked at me very slowly. I stared at her and it took me a moment to realize that it was a side effect of my contract.

Her eyes were glazed over and her face relaxed.

This usually happens before I possess her, only if she's sleeping though.

I took a deep breath as I gave my hand a once over. After a moment I spoke to her, "Charlotte, I need to dig through your memories. I'm asking your permission, will you allow me to look through them again?" I asked her slowly and carefully.

The last time I did it without her permission she flipped a bitch and bit me.

Charlotte's eyes widen slightly before she nodded slowly. Her hands reached forward slowly and she bent forward nuzzling my face, running her hands through my hair.

As she nuzzled me I felt a warm wetness against my cheek, I let out a sigh as I pulled back slightly and very carefully I patted her head between her horns. "It'll be okay Charlotte, I just need to verify something, it'll be quick and painless," I assured her making sure to chose my words carefully.

She just stared at me with a blank expression before slumping forward relinquishing control to me.

Warmth tingled through my hand as I transform it, then I gathered demonic energy in my hand. The cold black and red smoke swirled around one of my fingers like a small snake.

I placed my pointer finger on Charlotte's forehead. Seconds later everything went black and I was unconscious before I hit the ground.

~~~~~~~~
I frowned my arms crossed as I looked around examining the memory of Charlotte's that I'd found myself in.
It was the living room of Charlotte's home. Blood was spilled or rather splashed across the hardwood floor. However, the large puddles had been there so long they were starting to dry and stain the floor. A bright sunset lit the room with a gentle orange color, the blood reflecting in its light.
A twelve-year-old Charlotte sat in a recliner blankly staring at the blood, a glass of liquor in her hand. On the table was a half empty bottle of scotch.
A slight smile was on her face as she crossed her legs and took a sip of her drink.
I watched as I walked out of the kitchen I was wearing a dark blue apron over my suit. I walked over to Charlotte and snatched up the bottle of scotch from her.
" I made dinner so come and eat," I demand.
Charlotte narrowed her eyes at me giving me a scathing look. She let out a huff and a small tsk. "I didn't have you kill my fucking parents just so you could lecture me like one," she growled baring her teeth at me.
That's right Charlotte was really combative back then. Stubborn to a fault too.
I watched as I let out a loud sigh and narrowed my eyes at her. "I cooked something for us to eat, and yes you will eat it! You're a damn idiot for drinking so much, you had better not throw up," I growled right back at her as she rolled her eyes.
"I knew how to handle my liquor long before you came along you asshole," she mumbled under her breath.
For a moment I stared at her adjusting my blue apron slightly. Then I reached into my pocket and held out something for her.
She gave me a wary look before speaking. "What is that?"
"It's an amethysts bracelet. Amethyst are usually worn to protect oneself from getting drunk," I told her calmly.
She frowned before turning her gaze back to the blood stains. "I don't need that," she whispered in a slightly defeated tone.
I scowled before gently placing the bracelet in her hand. "You're my vessel now, so I would like you to please take care of yourself. For both of our sakes," I told her gently.
Charlotte opened her mouth but nothing came out. Slowly, very hesitantly Charlotte placed the bracelet in her dress pocket. "I'll keep it on me. If I need it later though I'll put it on," she told me softly.
I smiled at her gently. "Now will you come and eat? Please, you're too skinny," I pleaded with her.
"Yeah...I guess I am hungry," she said softly as she followed me into the kitchen.
I smiled as I watched the memory.
I wonder if she still has the bracelet?
However, I was snapped out of my train of thought as a familiar shock wave of demonic energy ran through me.
"The memories of Kessel are nearby but he's trying to force me away with the barrier," I muttered a small smirk on my face.
The memory in front of me wavered before settling again. This time I was in the hallway of a church, the small statues of the three gods surrounding me as they hung prominently on the walls.
Kessel stood in the hallway his long, platinum blonde hair tied back as he looked through some paperwork in his hands.
The dark burgundy carpet made him stand out starkly in the hallway as his blue and white Aveon robes clashed.
A few badges and pins were on his uniform representing his rank and authority.
I glared at him as he glanced up frowning his elf like ears twitching.
He turned slightly looking at the door next to him.
A scowl appeared on his face as he reached for the doorknob but before he could open, it opened up on its own. Charlotte walked out into the hallway wiping at the area around her nose and mouth as blood flowed freely from her injuries.
I gave Charlotte a once over, her skin was covered in bruises of various colors. Although she didn't have a black eye, her hair was frizzy and ruffled almost violently. She was very thin, the frilly sundress she wore hanging off of her body in a way that was almost horrifying.
Around her neck was a small white choker like collar with a tiny red light.
I let at a growl at the sight of it "That fucking collar!"
Kessel stared at Charlotte a look of horror and alarm on his face. "C-Charlotte?" He whispered reaching for her slowly.
Charlotte glanced at him her face smeared with blood. "I'm fine, I just made a mistake. It was my fault," she whispered.
Kessel's eyes widen as he looked past Charlotte, as a male Chimera in pastor robes came out of the room that she had just been in.
The man adjusted his robes before speaking to Kessel. "I'm sorry Brother Kessel, I had to discipline Charlotte. This little heathen decided to look at the certain forbidden reading materials," he explained as he glared at Charlotte.
Charlotte didn't speak as she just stared at the floor with a defeated and almost listless expression.
Kessel glared at the man. "Oh did she now," he said softly.
However, I could hear the barely concealed anger in his tone that I had heard a few times before in the past.
Kessel reached out the fingertips on his right hand glowing with a familiar golden light.
He touched the man's forehead and spoke. "Brother Charles, it is you who sinned greatly. You have tainted this young girl who is only eleven. You must repent!" Kessel said in a slow menacing tone.
The man squirmed beneath his touch as he tried to plead for his life. "B-brother Kessel you believe that heathen, that whore she is as tainted as the devil!" He yelled.
Kessel gave him a single scathing look before the man's body began to swell with new life. It was like watching someone pack a bunch of goldfish into a water balloon. The man's skin became lumpy and bulbous. A second later though he exploded spraying chunks of blood and viscera everywhere.
Along with blood and guts, Koi fish and turtles also burst out of the body landing on the floor to only flop around, while the turtles crawled.
Kessel let out a small sigh before turning to Charlotte who was just standing there staring blankly into space. She had long ago stopped trying to wipe the blood from her face.
Kessel knelt down in front of her his voice taking on a gentle tone. "Charlotte...I need you to look at me? Did they drug you again? Did they have you do this?" He asked slowly.
Charlotte glanced at him before speaking her words slightly slurred. "I-I made the mistake of mouthing off," she whispered as she swayed in place.
Kessel glared although his anger wasn't directed at her. "You're mother beat you and did this, and you're blaming yourself!" He exclaimed causing Charlotte to flinch.
Kessel looked at her pity clear in his eyes before he carefully picked her up, holding her on his hip like a toddler as she snuggled into him and passed out.
I followed him as he entered his office and called for Charlotte's parents over the intercom. Charlotte's mother was the only one who came though.
Charlotte's mother was a beautiful woman on the outside, a Chimera that was mixed with, cat, antelope, and lemur. Her cat ears and tail waved and twitched as she entered the room swaying her hips with a grace that belonged only to Chimeras that had antelope and gazelle in them. Her long red hair was wavy and medium length, and a smile graced her face as she looked at Kessel.
However, it turned into a smirk as she looked at Charlotte. "I see that you ordered the special package, Father Kessel," she said, her voice was like velvet except it hid razor blades underneath.
Kessel tucked Charlotte further into his chest as he glared at her. "Rebecca, do you know a famous saying written by a human author?" He asked her softly.
Rebecca chuckled and grinned at Kessel. "I'm sorry but I have no clue I don't follow human authors very much," she said as she giggled
I gritted my teeth.
Just looking at her makes me want to puke!
Kessel looked at her his gaze as cold as dry ice. "Well Rebecca the saying goes like this, hell is empty and all the devils are here," he said in an almost slow and methodical tone.
Rebecca scowled as her posture straightened. She let out a nervous laugh. "Father Kessel, are you accusing me of something when you've partaken in the special package?"
"Not at the moment but for the next few days, I will be mentoring Charlotte. So she shall be living with me while I teach her unless that is a problem?" Kessel told her slowly as he stared at her gauging her reaction.
Even though Rebecca let out a chuckle I could see her claws digging into the chair. She swallowed before speaking in a cheery tone. "It's absolutely no problem Father Kessel, after all, I've always thought that Charlotte could stand to learn more about our gods," she forced out.
Rebecca stood up a fake smile plastered on her face. "If you excuse me I must return to the church garden." She said as she left.
Kessel let out a sigh as he placed a black bound book with familiar symbols on his desk. I watched as he opened the book to my summoning symbols written in blood on one of the pages.
"Maybe you can help her better than me old friend," he whispered something looked different in his eyes.
I flinched as another pulse of demonic energy hit me and the memory shattered like a broken tv screen.
My eyes widen before I fought back releasing my own demonic energy.
Please, I need to see more, I-I need to know!
As I felt Kessel's barrier snap and shatter under the pressure of my demonic energy, I could also feel myself being blown back and dragged back into the waking world.
~~~~~~

I woke up suddenly gasping for air and coughing violently. I looked at Charlotte as she sat up and I froze as she looked at me with wide eyes tears flowing down her face.

"Y-you...why did you do that?" She whispered.

I shuddered then spoke, my voice coming out in a growl that I hadn't intended it to. "Why in the hell do know Kessel like that! Why didn't you tell me!" I snapped.

Charlotte growled at me baring her teeth. "I trusted you and-and you..." she trailed off her sadness and fear quickly turning into anger.

Seconds later she was on top of me her small hands around my throat as she strangled me.

I reached up and tried to push her away as she tried to press her thumbs into my larynx with white noise echoing in my ears I couldn't hear what she was yelling at me. Out of the corner of my eyes, I could see purple and black scales spreading along Charlotte's hands going all the way up to her elbows.

However a moment or two later Atlas pulled her off of me as Delilah knelt at my side a concerned expression on her face.

I could only lay on the ground panting as Delilah spoke, "What in the fuck is wrong with you two? Ivo what in the world did you do!" She asked almost frantically.

I sat up massaging my throat and coughing, my voice was hoarse as I spoke. "Kessel tagged Charlotte, his barrier was in her mind. He's in most of her memories!" I snapped.

Delilah's eyes widen in horror as she looked at Charlotte who was still struggling in Atlas's grip.
