I look around the small town. No demons here either. I sit on the top of a building with my head in my hands. Where did they all go?
I grab my backpack and unpack my dinner. It's really hard being the only demon hunter on earth. I bite into my sandwich, savoring the taste of the roast beef.
I look around at the town seeing all the lights off. The stars were really easy to see here. It was amazing.
I finish eating my food and throw my trash into a park's trash can. I start to my car but then I hear the sound of fluttering wings.
I turn around quickly with my hand on my rapier. I look around. Where was that coming from? I hear it again and look at the bushes.
I pull out my rapier and slowly advance to the bush.
"Come out if you are there!" I say. A small demon emerges out of the bush.
" H-hello. " It says. I look it over. I put the rapier further in front of me. He has to be fast because he is so small.
"Arg!" It yells leaping at me. I dodge and swing at its arm. I cut pretty deeply into it. It grabs it's arm in pain and I take that chance to decapitate it.
I wipe my rapier off, sheath it and look at the small demon.
"Sorry." I say to the dead demon.
I walk off to my car. I get in and throw my backpack in the back. I start the car and turn on the heater.
The lights are flickering on and off as I drive to the next city. The fog is thick and looming as it starts to rain. I can feel the pounding on the roof of the car.
I drive a few more hours before I stop and get out to stretch. I get back in the car and drive off. I look at my GPS. Only an hour left until I get to the city.
Suddenly my car is thrown back about five feet. I stop the car and grab my stuff. I get out and look around. My hand rests on my rapier as I look around the car.
I walk over to the front and look at the hood of the car. There is a dent on both sides right beside the headlights. Strange...
I look out into the night.
" Is anyone there? " I call.
I hear my voice echo off the mountains in the distance. The fog clears slightly to show a figure walking my way. I pull out my rapier and hold it in front of me.
"Who are you!" I ask to the figure.
I hear a giggle. As the figure walks closer I can see a girl with two bright pink flames.
"I'm Polly dear boy. Now you better step back." She says. Her eyes are the color of her flame. Her hair is red and up in a neat ponytail at the top of her head.
She stops a few feet away from me. She tilts her head to the side.
"You're not going to leave? Shame really. Well lets get on with it mortal." Polly says.
I wait for her to make the first move. She sighs and starts pummeling pink fireballs at me. I dodge them and sweep at her stomach. I cut the cloth and into the skin. She isn't bleeding very badly.
She throws a few more fireballs and I cut at her legs. She tries to jump away but I cut her.
"Well this was fun and all. But I really must be going. I have demons to lead." She says.
She sprouts two gray wings and flies away. I wipe the blood off of my rapier and sheath it while looking around making sure Polly isn't coming back.
I walk back to my car and throw my stuff in. What did she mean she has demons to lead? That was very unanimous.
I start the car and drive slowly down the road. I pick up speed soon and drive faster. What if she has a demon army?! What if she wants to kill humanity?!
I drive faster down the road hitting one-hundred miles per hour. I ease my foot off the accelerator. Worrying about it isn't going to help.
I look around and see the city. It is really early in the morning and I can barely keep my eyes open. I drive over to a hotel.
I get out of the car and grab my stuff. I walk in and up to the front desk and show them my card. They let me in and give me my key card. 
Room #095 on floor five. I ride the elevator up to the fifth floor and walk to my room. I slide in my key card and walk in. It is a decent hotel for the first one I picked.
I put my stuff away and put the do not disturb sign on. I lock the door and walk back to the elevator. I ride down and ask for a map of the hotel.
I find a small café and walk in. I order some eggs, bacon, and coffee. I sit down and look through my phone.
I have no texts. Not surprising. I have no family alive and never made any friends.
The waiter comes up to my table with my food. I thank him and start eating. I look through instagram. The explosion of the portal is all over the news.
I finish eating and pay for the food. I walk around the hotel quickly, shortly rejuvenated by the coffee. The have a pool and park outside. They have a casino, which I can't go in. There are several restaurants.
I walk back to the elevator and ride up to my room. As I walk there I see a little boy with his parents happily skipping and humming a tune.
The boy smiles and waves at me and I wave back. I open my door and walk into my room. I shower and change into clean clothes. I face-plant on the bed. I fall asleep almost instantly.
