Chapter 19
Darren
They walked towards the end of the corridor, passing more empty classrooms. Neither of them said a word. Darren's mind drifted. If only the bell hadn't rung...
He chose to forget their little moment, for now. It would come back to him anyway at night. He never had a choice at night.
Darren noticed that he was walking a little behind her, while Chloe powered ahead. Maybe she was trying to forget too?
Buried deep in his thoughts, they turned the corner, and Darren almost ran head first into someone. He stopped just in time, but the other person, and she rammed into his chest.
"I'm so sorry- oh, this feels nice," the lady muttered, still not stepping away. Her hair was blonde, the colour of hay. "Ally?" Felicia exclaimed.
The girl took a step back, and looked at Fel. "CHLOE!" she screamed and jumped on her, hugging her tightly. Fel had an awkward smile on her face, something he'd never seen after finding her alive. The girl, 'Ally,' held Fel's face and whispered, "I haven't seen you in so looooong." She pulled her in for a hug again.
"Yeah..." Fel said. She clumsily tapped her shoulder and gently pulled out of the embrace. Who was this wild-haired girl? Moreover, how did Fel know her?
"Well, it hasn't been that long, it's been approximately a month since we searched his name in the database," Ally said, nodding in his direction. His eyebrows raised. He had figured that Fel's boss would have needed to search if they wanted to kill him, so he wasn't surprised.
"Which database?" he asked Fel.
"FBI," Ally answered, grinning. "They tried to search using your first name, which I gave to them, BY THE WAY, but it didn't work, too many Darrens in the US of A. You have such a common name!"
"Uh... Right," Darren said, not knowing what to say. "Exactly HOW do you know me?"
"Ally, what are you doing here?" Fel interrupted. The girl looked at Fel.
"I volunteer here!"
Fel and Darren looked at each other. "It's such an awesome thing to do, and the kids are SO DAMN ADORABLE like have you SEEN them?!?!" Her eyes were wide open, her hands clutched together and the only thing left for her to do was squeal in delight. She looked like the real-life heart-eyed emoji.
"Anyway, what are you two doing here?" she questioned.
Darren opened his mouth to reply to her question, but Fel immediately said, "We used to study here!" He looked at her, mouth still open. He hadn't thought she believed him, and yet, here she was, using that as an excuse. He immediately shut his mouth, and nodded in agreement.
"That's so cool!" Ally responded. "Yeah, it's a wonderful school. We're just looking around, soaking in all the memories, you know." Memories? Was she actually remembering things? Or was she just a perfect liar? She sounded perfectly believable. Darren hoped it was the first.
"Aww, that's so cute," Ally replied with a smile on her face.
"Oh, and Ally, by the way, please don't tell your dad OR Mr Raines, that we're here," Fel said, a pleading smile on her face. Subtle. "We're supposed to be working, but we just HAD to stop by, you know?" He simply nodded and smiled a little, to add to Fel's lies.
"Oh, don't worry, I TOTALLY understand. I, myself got my bodyguards to stand outside and escaped inside." The smile was wiped off his face at the sound of the word 'bodyguards'. "They're cool and everything, but sometimes they can be SO oppressive."
Darren sneaked a peek at Fel, and saw her mouth was in a round 'o'. Like she just remembered something. A bit late on the remembering, wasn't she?
"Well, it was great meeting you, Ally, but I think we have to go now," Darren piped up, still looking at Fel. She looked at him, her braid whipping around, and nodded. "See you later, Al," she added, and took a step back.
"Okay. Bye, guys!" Ally waved at them. Darren smiled a little, waved and turned around. They both slowly walked down the corridor, away from the crazy girl, and they heard the sound of her shoes tapping moving slowly away from them.
As soon as they turned the corridor, they both started walking fast, like they could read each other's minds. "Do you actually remember studying here?" Darren asked. Fel laughed. "No, but it was the only thing I could think of, so I said it," she replied, overtaking him. His hopes fell. So much for that.
"You could have told her everything and escaped. Why didn't you?" he questioned again. Fel shrugged. "Just because." He knew her better than that, though. "Why?" he persistently asked.
She sighed. "If I go back now, they're not gonna just welcome me back with open arms," she replied in a low voice. "I may not feel things, but I have enough brains to know that they'll hurt me. Badly." Darren tried to respond to her statement, but she continued, "I completely forgot that she has bodyguards." She didn't want to talk about it. And he loved her enough to respect that.
They turned the next corridor as well, moving towards the exit of the building. "Wait, how DOES she have bodyguards?" he asked.
"Her father is the right-hand man of one of the richest men in the city, what do you expect?" she stated. Darren shook his head. That's how the two girls knew each other.
Suddenly, Fel came to a stop, and moved close to the wall. She beckoned for him to join her. When he did, she murmured, "I heard footsteps."
And so did he. Two pairs, sounding heavy. So, probably from two very heavy men.
He stepped in front of her, pulling out of his gun at the same time. He knew he had told Fel that there was to be no more killing, but desperate times called for desperate measures. Also, he could always shoot to injure.
The footsteps came to a stop, and Darren slowly peeped out. There were two huge men, facing away from them. One wa holding a gun in his hand.
He quickly hid again, and looked at Fel. "They're huge. If they get a hold of us, we're dead."
Fel smiled, and lifted her own hands. "Don't worry, honey," she said sarcastically(unfortunately), and winked. "I got the power."
