The next morning everyone rushed out of their beds as Allura announced over the intercoms that Lance was awake. But unbeknownst to anyone Keith had been sleeping in Lance's room too worried to sleep in his own so he had to sneak out and rush to the pod.
As he entered Lance's pod opened and he stretched yawning as if waking up from a deep sleep. "Hey guys, look who's back!" Lance called out smiling brightly at everyone while they all sighed in relief that he was indeed okay.
But Keith wasn't satisfied with hearing him, he needed to feel that he was okay so he marched right up to him and as Lance started to question what he was doing all Keith did was hug him.
He felt the heat that had been leaving his body the day before had returned and his heart rate was more stable but for some reason was beating faster then normal. "You idiot," Keith mumbled so Lance was the only one who could hear it.
Lance chuckled blushing slightly at the contact but hesitantly stared to hug him back. He liked this, Keith being so close, it doesn't happen too often so when it does he savors every second of it as if it was the air he needed to breath. But too soon, according to both Lance and Keith, Keith pulled away embarrassed because they were in front of all of their friends. But they just watched with knowing looks and gave each other hopeful glances.
"You really want to die don't you," Keith remarks almost sarcastically but yet serious and not happy it truly was an option Lance had possibly thought of.
"Of course not I just thought it was time to show off my lightning quick reflexes," Lance jokes while showing off his biceps. But Keith could see that it was to make up for all the times Keith himself had saved him and to prove that he wasn't always the damsel in distress.
Everyone else laughed at Lance's display before going off to begin their day because they were already too awake to try and go back to sleep. But Keith didn't laugh and he certainly didn't leave, instead he just stood there and stared at the forced smile on Lance's face. "You really are an idiot aren't you," Keith remarked crossing his arms.
Lance jumped having not seen that he was still there lucky that he hadn't let his smile drop yet, "What do you mean?" Lance asks confused as to why he was insulting him though he hadn't done anything, that he knows of.
"Oh don't play coy, you need to tell everyone about how you feel unimportant and like the seventh wheel. I mean I know I'm not the best at feelings and shouldn't be the one telling you to do this but you need to stop trying to hide everything," Keith says almost exasperated by all the talk of feelings and he was extremely worn out from all the worrying he had done last night.
Lance looked at him quite shocked letting his guard drop along with his smile and responding with a whisper, "How do you know all that?" Keith may not have liked the fake Lance but he hated the sad Lance even more so and wished he would give him a real smile.
"Lance, I'm in the room next to yours, I can hear you through the wall," Keith says softly but yet matter-of-factly making Lance sigh and lean against the wall and slide down to the ground. Keith walked over and sat next to him trying to comfort him in some way. "You okay?"
"I guess I just hoped no one would find out, but I guess I knew it would happen eventually I just didn't think it would be you. I though maybe you would make fun of me for it or tell me it was all true," Lance says in a small voice that entered into Keith's head and wouldn't leave.
'He thinks I hate him that much?' Keith thought and was extremely hurt that Lance would even think he would do those things to him. I mean they get in arguments a lot and call each other names but it never really came to hate, at least not for him. He's always had some feelings for Lance whether deep down where he couldn't quite reach them or right at the surface where they showed way too strongly. And today was definitely one of the days where it was right at the surface.
"I would never," Keith whispered as he set his head on Lances shoulder and they both sighed in satisfaction at the contact. "How about this, you rest for the rest of today and tonight I take you to see something that'll cheer you up?"
Lance looked down at Keith who still had his head on his shoulder and gave a small smile. "I think that would be nice," Lance whispered laying his head on top of Keith's.
