Chapter 31: A gaping moron

"Shut up, Seaweed brain," Annabeth laughed,"I swear to Gods-"

I loved hearing Annabeth laugh. Heck I loved making her laugh even more.

The way her eyes sparkled as she threw her head back, transformed her. And I could probably survive off just that.
And her smile....her eyes....her cynical remarks and her....

I guess I could just survive off just the thought of her. Which I practically did for the last five years

Speaking of transformations, Annabeth stiffened up, rolling her eyes as she slammed her locker door shut.

I immediately understood why.

"Percyyyyyy babbyyyyyyy," a voice purred, Drew Tanka emerging from the darkness. Er....I mean classroom.

It had been getting pretty annoying, Drew's advances.

After taking home two silver medals and one bronze, the town had a mini celebration for us in Town Hall a two weeks ago.

Since then, she had been hovering around me non stop, attempting to be seductive or something.

"...hey Drew," I chuckled, trying to catch Annabeth's eye for some backup.

She didn't look at me, rolling her eyes at Drew instead. Her presence had been irritating Annabeth as well, who seemed like she wanted to rip that girl's head off everytime she approached us.

Not that I would blame her, even peace loving Grover wanted to throw her in a ditch.Which was super fair considering Drew hasn't been the nicest to either of them.

"Oh what happened? You look like your bleeding!" Drew gasped, clutching her chest as if she cared,"It's okay. I'll take care of you."

"He looks like he's bleeding because it's blood, Drew," Annabeth scoffed, looking Drew up and down. She appeared quite intimidating.

I looked down at my finger. It's just a paper cut.

Drew ignored her, her raccoon eyes focused on me,"You can come over after-"

"He's busy," Annabeth interrupted again. I almost sighed in relief.

All hail Annabeth, the general of the protect 'Percy from awkward situations' army!

Drew finally snapped, dropping her goody gumdrops facade,"I wasn't talking to you."

"Good. I have no interest in listening to you,"  Annabeth cooed, turning on her heel.

"So Perrcyyyy-,"Drew tried, again being interrupted by none other than the Annabeth Chase.

"He's busy."

"Nobody asked you!" Drew growled,"Uglybeth. You've never even had a boyfriend. You think you're so smart with your stupid brain."

I felt my blood boil, but Annabeth stood there calmly, a serene smile on her face which meant shit was about to go down.

"An oxymoron."

"W..huh?"

"Smart and stupid is an oxymoron, a contradictory statement."

"You're so-"

"I'll tell you what's not an oxymoron," Annabeth's smile turned wider and I took a step back.

My insides tingled I'm excitement. This is gonna be good.

"That you're a piece of crap who gets off on thinking she's better than other people when all you are is sad and annoying. So keep your sociopathic tendencies away from me," Annabeth paused, before delivering her final blow," And that was a non contradictory statement, moron."

Drew's mouth hung open, and she shut it with a snap before giving Annabeth one of the dirtiest glares I've ever witnessed.

She sashayed away, frowning at me for some reason as she did.

"That was-" I began, but Annabeth was still focused on Drew.

"Oh and Drew?" Annabeth called, most of the corridor turning to her,"About no boyfriend?"

Annabeth looked at me for a second. I thought she was going to ask me to leave or something, but she did something that Ive only dreamed about.

She pulled me towards her and she kissed me.

Everything inside me burst. Metaphorically, of course.

All the gasps and cheers all faded away for that one minute, it just being me and Annabeth.

I could barely breathe, barely believe that it was happening. It felt like a fever dream, made of stars and the moon.

I almost whined when she pulled away, but she wasn't even looking at me.

"I think you confused me with yourself," Annabeth said , loud enough to carry across the room to where Drew stood.

"Sorry," she whispered, so quietly that it almost got lost in her breath. I was still catching mine.

She glanced at me for a moment, indicating that it was indeed I, who was still rooted in shock, she was speaking to.

"For what?" I whispered back.

Annabeth didn't reply, shaking her head as she stepped backwards, dashing off through the crowd of students.

I found myself chasing after her, the final destination being the archery shed.

"Wise girl?" I called, knocking at the wall as I entered the unfinished shed, only to find her crumpled in a corner, looking quite pensive.

"Are you alright?" I asked. Drew said some pretty mean things, but it wasn't like the Annabeth I knew to take those things at face value.

"Yeah," she nodded, not turning to look at me,"I'm just....I just....I guess....I'm sorry, Percy."

"Sorry?" I echoed, hopefully trying to sound  steadier than my heartbeat. With a careful stride, I found myself sitting next to her.

"I'm sorry that I kissed you....and that the entire school thinks we're dating. I'm sorry I sprung the whole thing on you. And I'm just sorry," she finally looked at me, something twinkling in her eyes, something I didn't understand.

I tried not to look hopeful. The school thinks we're dating? Does that mean-

I pushed the thoughts away

"Hey hey hey," I whispered, slinging my arm around her gently,"you have nothing to be sorry about, I get it"

"It's just that Drew...she makes my blood boil! And I got mad and....I....I don't want to ruin our friendship, Percy"

"You won't," I chuckled, keeping my emotions in check.

If I kept feeling the way I do whenever I was around Annabeth, I was going to be the one to ruin our friendship.

What I would give to kiss the worry off her face right now.

"Can we just pretend we're dating for like a week and say we broke up or something?" she asked.

"Or...how about this...you want Drew to be a seething mess right?" I said slowly, trying to process my own emotions.

Annabeth nodded,"Is that bad?"

I chuckled,"Hey I can't judge. Anyways, so instead of an easy breakup, let's..." I felt my face turn red, and never wanted to kick myself more.

Why wasn't I able to get the words out??

Realision dawned on Annabeth's face,"to fake date. And rub it in her face," she said slowly, ducking her head away from me.

I cleared my throat,"umm yeah. Pretty much. What do you say?"

"Let's do it," she whispered, still not facing me.

I was glad that she didn't. I probably looked like a tomato, with incredible hair.

"Okay so then how about...we get to class? I don't like seeing you all crumpled up like a sad paper ball," I suggested, tapping her shoulder.

Annabeth rolled her head back, facing me,"I have a better idea....we can skip school."

I grinned,"skipping school? Why that is scandalous, Chase"

She shrugged,"what can I say? My boyfriend changed me."

My heart skipped a beat. Boyfriend.

I liked that way more than I should have. Or maybe I liked it exactly as much as I should have.

Because there's no denying that I like Annabeth at this point.

"Then by all means, let's skip school, girlfriend. To the creek I imagine?"

Annabeth smiled,"you imagine right."

I'm alive! Shocking I know!
But I wrote a couple chapters, and I shall be rolling them out slowly

And I'm sorry for the inconsistency, as usual. I promise you I'm working on that.

Any suggestions for the story?
