Personality

Erik is someone described to be "morally conflicted". To other Mutants, he is a justifiable, righteous, passionate, and virtuous crusader of justice for his kind, ensuring the survival of Mutant race no matter what.

Because of his experience as both a Mutant and a Holocaust survivor, witnessing the cruelty and prejudice of humanity, he believed that co-existence between humans and Mutants was impossible, and they must either evolve to become Mutants themselves or be exterminated. Eventually, this trait became worsened over time of humanity's continuing discrimination toward Mutants, including killing and experimenting on them twisted his ideals of proving that Mutants were superior and must dominate humans.

Despite his antagonistic relationship with the X-Men, he respect them at some degree. Not to mention he is still somewhat of a close friend with Professor Charles Xavier, who despite opposing him to believe in the peace between humans and Mutants, Erik still appreciated the friendship they had.

Eventually, it was after Charles' sacrifice to defeat the Phoenix that caused him to change his ways. Filled with regrets of unable to reconcile with Charles and sowing nothing but conflict between him along with his shame of letting his own arrogance and power costing him his only friend who believed in him, Erik decided to abandon his ways and decided to honor his friend's legacy by fighting for peace between mutantkind and humanity.

After joining Graylight, Erik did his best to follow Charles' ideals in hopes of not only making the world better for his kind, but also to repent for his sins.

Biography

Born to middle-class German-Jewish family in the 1920s, during the Nazi regime's rise to power, Erik and his parents were captured by the Nazis where they were brutally executed but only he survived due to the manifestation of his Mutant powers. He was then sent to Auschwitz concentration camp but eventually escaped during the revolt in 1944.

Growing up, Erik met and befriended Charles Xavier, another Mutant who was a telepath. As they two became friends, they became concerned about the rising discrimination toward Mutants. At the same time, Erik met a woman named Magda, who he fell in love with. As the two settled in Ukraine, they had two children: Wanda and Pietro. Later on, after accidentally revealing his powers while saving a man from the accident, the people, fearing his powers, burned down his house with his wife and children inside. Although Erik was able to save Wanda and Pietro, Magda perished. Angered by this event, Erik slaughtered them all while devastating a part of the city, as horrified Charles watched.

Eventually, Erik's experiences from the Holocaust, combined with the loss of his wife and his outlook on the situation that Mutants faced, decided to fight for other Mutants but unlike Charles, he used more deadly force and tried to make his kind the dominant species on Earth, either creating a homeland on Earth where mutants can live peacefully, or conquering and enslaving humanity in the name of mutantkind.

Forming an organization of Mutants who are also angry and disillusioned, known as the Brotherhood, Erik, now going by Magneto, began to attack humanity, but found himself pitted against Charles' Mutant students, the X-Men. As a result, he would constantly fight against the X-Men, and later on, the Avengers, which he learned that his daughter Wanda was part of as the superhero Scarlet Witch.

During his time, he would try to establish an utopia for Mutants, including Asteroid M, an orbital base of operations in a hollowed-out asteroid, and Genosha, an island nation with no recognized government that became his most used sanctuary for Mutants like him.

But the turning point for Magneto's life came after the destruction of Genosha by the hands of Xavier's long lost twin sister Cassandra Nova, who sent many Sentinels, robots designed to hunt Mutants, that killed millions of Mutants residing in Genosha while also destroying the island, and later on he witnesses Charles' death at the hands of Jean Grey, who was possessed by the Phoenix Force.

With Charles dead and many Mutants under him dead, Erik is left a broken man, wandering the world. After arriving and settling down in China, under the alias of Kuan-Yin Xorn, Erik tried to find some peace within himself. After being visited by his son, Pietro, who is now the superhero Quicksilver, Erik decides to fight for Mutants once more, but abandoning his quest for domination in honor of Charles' memories.

Powers

Homo Superior Physiology: Like most Mutants, Magneto gained his powers when his X-Genes inside his DNA awakened and mutated his genetics. He was previously thought to be an Alpha-level Mutant, but later revealed as an Omega Level Mutant, a powerful type of Mutants with limitless powers.

Magnetism Manipulation: Magneto's signature power is his ability to have absolute control over magnetism that allows him to manipulate all forms of metal. This also applies to nonferrous objects like aluminum. He is also able to physically bond metallic substances to other elements at an atomic level, allowing him to manipulate that said object. He is also able to manipulate organic beings as well, by controlling the iron within their blood.

Force Field Generation: Magneto is able to create magnetic force field around himself to protect himself or others from attacks. The barriers are strong enough to withstand many nuclear explosions.

Electromagnetism Manipulation: Because electricity is part of magnetism, Magneto able to generate a wave of EMP that is able to disable any electronic devices near him.

Metal Detection: Magneto is able to sense any metal or objects containing metal nearby. This was how he was able to locate Wolverine by detecting his Adamantium skeleton.
