Blurb:
Two authors decide to swap genres when they both get into writer's block one day. There's one issue, neither has any idea how to write the genre they were assigned.

Phet "Boo" Thongdi is a horror writer with small notoriety online. He isn't the most famous writer around but his viewership is nothing to scoff at. Still, he can't help but feel discouraged and lose steam when he sees no one is interested in reading queer horror.
Angelo Reyes writes out all his gay romance fantasies, especially on the not-so-innocent side, for the online world to see. No sad endings allowed! It's only inevitable that the crushing pressure of his audience leads him to writer's block.
The two roommates vent their writing frustrations to each other one day which leads to an idea. They should swap genres.
Goose's Thoughts:
Welcome to Week 44 and two very adorable roommate writers who learn a lot about each other, and themselves, just by swapping genres!
The premise of this story is such an interesting one and, despite how simply it might seem, lends itself to really push Boo and Angelo as characters. I love how the genre swap affects the two characters and just how much they start to learn about themselves just by making this decision to write something different from what they're used to. The simplicity of it really adds a depth of complexity to our two characters in such an expected way and I loved seeing the two of them build their relationship an discover more about themselves and each other because of it.
Both Boo and Angelo make for very interesting characters because of the layers and complexities that Joy has added to them. I loved watching Boo open up towards Angelo as he struggled to wrap his head around writing romance and delving into this unknown part of himself. Not only did it lend itself into building the relationship between the two of them, but it also helped us to uncover why Boo would be so reluctant to write about romance in the first place.
Although we haven't seen much of Angelo growing more into the horror genre he's writing, I loved how much he is able to help Boo emotionally. His knowledge on the romance genre as a writer manages to push Boo more to these self-discoveries and open up about his struggles before the two of them met. There is this innocence to him that I love and I cannot wait to see his character grow with Boo as he plays more into writing horror.
The building relationship between Angelo and Boo is incredible. I love how natural and organic it is with the two of them growing as characters whilst their relationship grows with them. Their friendship and the way they bounce off one another is so well written and they just seem to fit together really well. Joy really manages to capture the seamless nature of their relationship and their growth between chapters.
If you are looking for a cute story between two young writers, then this is the story for you. Angelo and Boo have such natural chemistry and the simplicity of the plot really helps to grow them as characters and to grow their relationship. I'm very excited to see where this story goes next and to see the two of them grow that little bit more.
Thank you for writing such an amazing story, Joy!
