I think I had fallen asleep again. I remembered going to sit on the other side of Daryl in Sophia's bed. I remembered Daryl wrapping an arm around me and pulling me into his side and that was it. I was gone and pulled into a crazy dream land.
I was back in high school. I had no clue how this was happening. I hated high school. It was like hell on earth. No one talked to me, I barely had any friends and the friends I did have, well I wouldn't even really call them friends. I heard the bell ring and stood up from my desk.
When I walked into the hallway I knew something wasn't right. The halls were crowded and people were moving slow. It smelled something awful. I slammed into someone and they instantly turned around. Instead of being met by their eyes, I was met by rotting flesh.
I tried to run and get around whatever it was but I couldn't there wasn't anywhere to go. I felt my back collide with a wall and I knew whatever it was wasn't going to stop until it had me for itself. I suddenly felt a hand clamp onto my arm and pull me inside a classroom.
I wanted to scream but my mouth was covered with the person's other hand. I kicked and elbowed any way I could. The person grunted with every hit but wouldn't let go. "Emery, stop," I knew that voice. I slowly stopped and the person released me.
I turned around to come face to face with those familiar Georgia blues. "What the fuck is going on?" I whispered to Daryl. He shrugged and walked over to the windows in the classroom. "I ain't got a clue but we need to get out of here," he said while opening the window quietly.
He quickly jumped out of the window and helped me out. Once my feet hit the ground Daryl took off running pulling me along with him. I was so confused as to what was going on. Daryl stopped only to open the passenger door of his truck and shoved me in.
My dream changed.
I was now with Daryl. We were both older. There was nothing wrong with the world. Everything was normal. I was sitting in a house, in the living room to be exact. "Hey babe," I heard called out. I knew who it was, what he brought with him though I wasn't expecting.
I cocked a confused eyebrow at him. "Can you hold Levi for a second?" he asked while passing the small infant to me. I was definitely confused now looking down at the tiny baby. I watched as Levi opened his eyes and I was met by those familiar blue ones.
We had a son, his name was Levi, and he had Daryl's eyes. I was really confused now. I knew I couldn't have kids, but Levi was a tiny copy of Daryl, I didn't need a DNA test to know it was his. My gaze froze on the small child. Just because he was his doesn't mean he was mine.
Daryl walked back in the room with a bottle and sat down beside me. Daryl slowly lifted Levi from my arms. "Were you being a good boy for momma?" he cooed down at the infant. I felt a small smile creep on my face watching Daryl interact with Levi. Levi was ours.
My dream changed again.
We were now in the middle of the apocalypse Daryl and I were taking care of Sophia. She was 'ours.' Walkers were everywhere. I was trying to look out for Sophia and Daryl. It was difficult. I knew Sophia couldn't defend herself but I knew Daryl could.
It was hard to tear my eyes away from him and focus on fighting. I was afraid that with a blink of an eye he would walker chow. I took down a couple walkers while keeping Sophia close to my side. I couldn't reload my crossbow and I couldn't get my knife out of walker skulls fast enough.
We were goners and I knew it. There were too many walkers and not enough fighters. It was me, Sophia, Daryl, and.....Merle? What was he doing here?! I watched as walkers slowly went down around me. Daryl was screaming at me but I felt like his voice was in a distance when I felt a searing pain go through my shoulder.
"NO!" I heard Daryl scream as I crumbled to the ground. I had been bit. I knew I had. It was obvious. Blood was everywhere. Daryl stripped of the sleeveless flannel he was wearing and pressed it against my shoulder. It was no use. It wasn't going to help.
I was bit. I was going to die. I watched through hazy eyes as Sophia buried her face in Merle's side. That was definitely a sight to see. "You're going to be okay," I kept hearing Daryl whisper over and over. I barely shook my head. "You need to do it," I whispered.
My voice was hoarse and it hurt to talk. Daryl shook his head and continued pressing his shirt to my shoulder. "No, you're not leaving me," Daryl growled. I reached out and touched his cheek lightly. "Daryl listen to me," I whispered. Daryl stopped to look at me.
"You need to take Sophia and you need to get out of here. I don't need her or you seeing me like this. Remember our promise," I whispered my voice trailing off. Daryl and I had promised that if one of us had gotten bit we would make sure the other didn't turn.
"Em, I can't," he whispered. I nodded. "You can, and you have to," I said. Daryl leaned down and tried to wrap his arms around me without hurting me. He leaned his head against my chest listening to my heartbeat weaken. "Alright," I said weakly shoving Daryl back.
He slowly lifted himself off the ground and he grabbed Merle's gun. His eyes connected with mine. "I love you," I whispered. I watched Daryl reach up and rub his eye slightly. He wasn't hiding that tear very well. Daryl lifted the gun slowly. "I love you too."
Bang!
My body jolted and I sat straight up in bed. My breath was coming fast and hard and I felt myself kicking at the blankets trying to get free. When I finally did I ran into the bathroom and hugged onto the useless toilet. I couldn't even bring myself to puke.
That dream was awful. "Emery," I heard Daryl scream. I heard his heavy footsteps down the hall. I felt the tears streaming down my face as I pushed my hair out of my face. Daryl was standing in the doorway with a concerned look on his face. He instantly dropped to the ground after seeing me.
His arms instantly went around me as I let the tears continue to fall. After a few minutes I pulled back a little to see a small Sophia standing in the doorway looking a little frightened. Daryl slowly scooted towards Sophia. He placed his hands lightly on her shoulders.
"Sophia, can you give Emery and I a minute?" she nodded slightly before walking down the hall. Daryl came back over to me and wrapped his arms back around me while running a hand through my hair. I sighed as I snuggled into his side a little more.
"What happened?" Daryl asked. I sniffled a little before answering. "Terrible dream," I whispered. Daryl played with one of my curls. "Wanna talk about it?" he asked. I slowly pushed myself up so I could look at him. Daryl squeezed me a little as if encouraging me to tell him.
I sighed and ran a hand through my hair. "It happened in bits. We were in high school and when the bell rang everyone turned into walkers and then my dream switched to now," I watched Daryl arch an eyebrow in confusion so I continued on.
"You and I were trying to fight off walkers. Sophia was with us. I don't know where everyone else was. Uh, and uh Merle was there too. I ended up getting bit and you shot me," I said my voice trailing off a little. Daryl pulled me into him and squeezed me again.
"It was just a dream, but I think you're leaving a part out," he whispered. I sat back again and looked at him. "In part of my dream, we uh, er, had a-a son. His name was Levi," I finally spit out. I watched Daryl's eyes sparkle a little. I knew it. His eyes sparkled when he was happy.
He wasn't happy about me not being able to have kids. He tried to pull me into him, but I pushed him back and stood up. "Em," Daryl said while reaching out for my hand. I pulled it back like it was on fire. "I knew it!" I yelled hoping not to scare Sophia.
Daryl stood up. "Em, stop!" Daryl said while following me out of the bathroom. I quickly walked back into the bedroom and pulled on my boots. "You're not happy with me! Correction, you were happy until you figured out I couldn't have kids!" I screamed.
I grabbed my crossbow and shoved past Daryl ignoring the fact that he was still trying to grab at me. I quickly walked down the stairs hearing Daryl's steps behind me. "Emery," I heard that small voice call out. I turned to see Sophia sitting on the couch in the living room.
I stopped as she walked over to me and I crouched to her level. "Where are you going?" she asked weakly. I gave her a small smile. "I'm just going out for a bit, but I'll be back," I said. Sophia nodded slightly before wrapping her tiny arms around me.
I released her quickly and walked past Daryl again and out the front door. "Where do you think you're going?" Daryl growled from behind me. I didn't even bother looking behind me. I knew he was right behind me. I kept walking ignoring the stares from everyone else.
"Out," I retorted as I unlocked the gate. I quickly slung my crossbow to my front and took out a walker that was right on the other side. It didn't even see it coming. I retrieved my bolt before marching off towards the woods. "Emery Ann Lucas! Stop!"
I stopped hearing my full name and turned to face that stubborn Redneck who practically ran into me. "What?" I growled through clenched teeth. Daryl sighed and I noticed he had his crossbow with him too. "Don't go out there," he whispered softly.
It almost made me feel guilty, but I wasn't going to cave that easily. "No, I'm going whether you like it or not. Don't wait up," I turned on my heel. "Don't follow me either," I stalked off and into the woods. I didn't care what he said. He wasn't my boss.
I walked for what seemed like hours before I finally stopped. I looked up noticing the sun was starting to set. There was no way I was going to be able to make it back in time and honestly I had no clue where I was. I sighed and looked around knowing I was camping in the woods for the night.
I sighed as I walked around for another five minutes before slinging my crossbow on my back. I had found the perfect tree to sleep in. High enough so walkers couldn't reach but not so high that I would break something if I fell out of it while sleeping.
Daryl really fucked up this time. More than any other time he had. It would have been different if he had been honest from the beginning but he wasn't. He lied. He lied to my face. He said what he knew I wanted to hear. "It's okay." He's wrong it wasn't okay.

Why do you think Emery is acting this way? Do you believe Daryl was just 'telling her what she wanted to hear?'
