EFFIE REID HAS ALWAYS HATED THE GODS, they didn't care that the gods were all powerful, to effie, they were all dead-beats and one of them, unknowingly is their parent. effie has been at half-blood ever since their tenth birthday and in the last three years that effie has been at camp, their godly parent still hasn't claimed them. effie is used to adults disappointing them, being raised in the foster system is not always a happy thing and being a demi-god in the foster system made it impossible. effie never knew who her mother was, she gave birth to effie and left her at the local church with nothing but a name, euphemia caitlin reid, effie. effie has always hated their name, it was nothing but a puzzle, euphemia is greek, effie always wondered if their mother named them that because she knew about effie's true heritage and if that was why she gave them up.
effie remembers the day that they discovered that they were a half-blood as clearly as the day it happened. effie was at the park that was across the street from their group home, effie was with their best friend forrest and a younger kid who lived in the same home as them. effie was playing on the swings when all of a sudden a monster came out of nowhere, effie didn't know what to do, effie stared speechless as the monster called effie a 'demigod' a term they vaguely remembered from school. as the creature got closer to effie, effie grabbed out their slingshot which effie took everywhere and slang a rock at the creature, the monster cried as the rock hit them in the eye blinding them.
forrest took effie and got them as far away from the monster as possible, forrest took effie to a place called camp half-blood and revealed that the camp was going to be effie's new home seeing as monsters had realised effie was a demigod.
effie was welcomed at camp but never claimed, much like their life before camp, no one wanted to claim them, to be their parent. luke understood what it was like to be without a parent, despite being claimed and knowing who his mother was, luke was still in the same boat as all the other unclaimed campers at camp-half blood and one thing that effie and luke had in common was their hatred for the gods.
on the day that percy jackson arrived at camp half-blood, effie could feel a shift in luke's demeanour. while he was still the same person who had became like a brother to effie, something was different. effie's suspicions were confirmed when luke pulled them aside one day asking them to keep an eye on percy jackson, explaining that he had a plan to get back at the gods but percy can't get in the way.
effie agreed, hoping that the gods got a taste of their own medicine for once and snuck out of camp to join percy, annabeth and grover on their quest to return the lightning bolt.
