09 - hogsmeade

It was the day of the Hogsmede trip with Edward. Selene couldn't be more nervous. She just hoped he doesn't think this is a date though, she knew deep down it is. She also knew this is not fair to him, I know he likes me, but maybe it is simply platonic. She had tried to tell herself multiple times that morning.

Oh how she was wrong.

She figured it was time to get ready. Selene had a plan: make it obvious it is platonic, not a date. Selene felt horrible, she really did. Perhaps she could eventually like Edward, possibly, but that isn't fair to him.

Selene stroked a brush through her hair. The girl had gotten a haircut right before the start of this year.

Selene pulled on a random light blue jumper. Then, pulling on a pair of black leather pants.

Her mother is a muggle, she owns a boutique in London. Her father did some kind of job  involving a lot of numbers that he had explained to her countless times, but she never could quite understand what it was.

That is how Lily and Selene met, through their parents. The two girls moms met in school, the school some muggles go to after Highschool. You could say Lily and Selene were forced into being friends because of their moms but that is further from the truth. They are attached at the hip. Lily's parents are Selene's second parents and vise versa.

Lily also has a sister named Petunia. Selene got along pretty well with her until they went off to Hogwarts. Petunia liked to refer to them as 'weird' but Selene knew deep down she is jealous of her sister.

Selene finished her look with a matching light blue claw clip pulling her hair in a half up half down hairdo. She then proceeded to take out her makeup bag and pull out the following:
eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, blush, and highlighter.

-

Selene walked down to the opening of the great hall to grab a quick breakfast before meeting Edward at The Three Broomsticks. When she woke up the dorm was empty, she had assumed the other girls were off at Hogsmeade or doing other stuff.

Selene peered over at the Gryffindor table to see the one and only Marauders. 'What could go wrong?' She ask myself while approaching where the four boys sat. " Top of the mornin'," Selene said while pretending to tilt a fake top hat at them.

"Never do that again." Remus replied dryly,

"What's got your knickers in a twist, sweet Remmy?" Selene laughed.

It was close to the full moon and she knew it. Selene didn't know for sure if her theory was correct, but the girl was pretty sure that Remus Lupin was a werewolf.

She would never tell anyone. She has never even asked him, not wanting to offend him if she was wrong. Lily and Selene figured it out in their fourth year after he got sick monthly all landing on the full moon and then he would come back all scratched up. It was none of their business, they probably wouldn't have even figured it out if  they didn't get assigned a paper on Werewolves.

Selene knew there is this huge prejudice against Werewolves. It was a cruel judgement on people who couldn't control what happened to them every full moon.

For a while, she thought Remus had a really bad period or something.

"Well, I was needing some more chocolate but these prats landed us in a detention with McGonagall," Remus replied looking bitterly at Sirius and James. "It was so worth it though, Moony."

Oh. and the nickname, 'Moony' how obvious.

Finding out this news didn't make either Lily or Selene think differently or less than of Remus Lupin. He folds his socks for merlin's sake!
Remus also has one of the purest souls ever.

She patted Remus on the back and sat down next to him, across from James and Sirius. "Don't worry, I can get you some, what kind do you like?"  She asked.

Remus' face lit up "Anything but white chocolate," Remus started, "Here let me give you money."

Remus started to dig in his bag, "No need, it isn't trouble I can cover it." Selene smiled.

"No-" Remus tried to interject.

"Remus, I have got it. The number of times you have helped me, I owe you." Remus raised a brow but hesitantly nodded.

-

It was a nice day, the sun was out and shining, kissing the skin of everyone out and about on this Sunday. The wind was blowing, but softly. As Selene walked out to meet Edward at the gates to Hogsmeade. She noticed everything. The way people were huddled with their friends talking about Godric knows what. The way you could hear the birds singing melodies that sounded angelic. The way the grass was perfectly green this time of year. She have always loved the outdoors.

As Selene was walking she got lost in her thoughts. shocker I know. But, she was thinking about how this is not fair. Going out on a completely one-sided date is unfair. It is unfair for both her and Edward. So, she came to a conclusion

Selene spotted Edward waiting for her at the gates, sitting on a stone bench. She approached him with a smile and soft wave, his face lit up when he saw her walking towards him, and the guilt on her face, could be seen from a mile away. She thought it would be obvious but then realized he didn't know her well so it went unnoticed.

"Hey, Selene! Ready to go?" He asks, "Yeah, just can we talk for a second?" Edward raises a brow but nods and sits down on the bench and pats at the seat beside him for her to join him.

"I like you, Edward, I do. I am not sure what this is, but I am assuming it is a date. I think you are an amazing guy and any girl would be so so lucky to date you. I just don't see you in that way. I think you would be a real good friend and I just got confused about my feelings. I just wanted to let you know because it would be unfair to you if I led you on thinking this was something it isn't. I would still love to hang out today but just as... friends... I understand if you don't want to though." She said in a hushed tone so nobody would overhear.

"Oh... Yeah... No... That's cool, let us go in... yeah?" Edward mumbled.

The day went on like any other, Edward was a very nice guy and good friend. Would they ever hang out again? Probably not.

Nonetheless, Selene was having a fine time. "I have to go to Honeydukes, you?"

"I am on a strict no-sweet diet." Edward replied,

"Oh." Selene laughed, thinking he was joking,

"No I am serious." Edward adds.

"Oh... that is really... good for you!" She stammered.

"Feel free to go through, I should probably head back to the castle." he says while starting to retreat back towards Hogwarts.

"Okay. I had a good time. See you around."

And just like that, it was over, did they talk again?

Nope.

-

Selene walk into Honeydukes to grab Remus' sweets, only to find a messy hair bespectacled boy.

Selene walked up to stand beside him, right next to the Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans. "Fancy seeing you here, Potter," She started "Didn't you and the boys have a detention today?"

James looks over to me and gives a small smile, "No, the other three did but not me. I am perfect and Minnie loves me so I don't get into detentions... at least this time since I wasn't involved in whatever they did." he says scratching the back of his neck awkwardly, while picking up a Chocolate Frog and putting it into his big pile of sweets, ranging from Fizzing Whizzbees to Jelly Slugs.

She nodded her head and a small, very small laugh escapes her mouth, "So, angel boy has come to Hogsmeade all alone, how tragic." Selene nodded sarcastically.

"Yes, I am very heartbroken to be alone. It's not like you're here questioning if I am on the run from Minnie McG."

Selene gasped and put her hand to her heart in fake heartbreak, "I simply asked you one question. And I don't think it had anything to do if you were on the run. Do you have something to hide Potter?" She raised a brow while picking up a few chocolate bars for Remus.

"Ray, I always have something to hide." James chuckled.

"So secrets do lie beneath the one and only James Potter," Selene gasped.

"Now it's time for me to ask you a question." James says, "Ask away Potter," Selene replied.

"What are you doing in Hogsmeade alone?"

"I wasn't alone, I came here with Edward Chang from Ravenclaw but, he ditched me just now because I friend-zoned him," She responded, cringing at the awkward situation that had just occurred moments before. She had put two and two together to know that Edward was just wanting to leave because, she had seen him eating sweets just the day before,
awkward right?

"All the boys chasing after you I see." James started with a smirk. "Say, fancy grabbing a Butterbeer with me at The Three Broomsticks?"

"I would love to." Selene smiled going up to the register with James by her side to pay.

They checked out of Honeydukes and left with what seemed to be pounds of sweets. Selene had only gotten  a pack of Bertie Blott's Every Flavour Beans. The rest are for Remus.

"Your friend sure does love his chocolate." Selene laugh while walking right beside James, "Oh yes, Moony sure does." James started, "That is one of the things he doesn't share with just anyone" James adds. Selene laughed as James pushed open the door to The Three Broomsticks

Selene adored The Three Broomsticks. It is always warm and very crowded but inviting. She remembered the first time she had come in with Lily, Alice, and Marlene in her third year. Her very first taste of butterbeer. the foam and butterscotch taste was overwhelming but perfect at the same time. Selene could live off of it forever, and be a very happy girl.

"I can order the drinks, can you go get us a seat?" James asked, "Yeah let me just give money for my drink," She pulled out two sickles and handed them to James, only to be met by his hand. She looked up at him in confusion.

"I've got it... Selene."

Her name. He called her Selene. Not Ray. She had known him for six years and this is the first time he had ever called her by her first name.

Always my surname. What changed now? Selene thought to herself

"Oh... well thank you," She said, shock evident in her voice.

Selene walked over to a seat next to the window, overlooking the streets of Hogsmeade and sat down. It was a two-person table. Near the door.

Why was she so shocked? So what, Selene had paid for Remus' sweets. It's what friends do. She always thought they were friends, but it was never confirmed. She is a very awkward person, she just is. With Lily she had asked if they were friends.  Same with Alice, Marlene, and Remus. She wanted reassurance. She cannot ask James if they are friends... right?
