The time was more than a century past.
Danu stood defeated in the dense brushwood at the Cliffs of Moher. She casted her gaze outwards and towards the New World.
At her feet, a plethora of electric blue Spring gentian stood at cheerful attention, kissing the Mountain Aven petals beside them. Not even the perky purple folds of the Neotinea masculata, though, could cease the tears of The Three Mothers on this day.
As a Peregrine falcon soared the magnificent sky above, Danu mourned the loss of her children. The Great Famine was killing them by the hundreds of thousands. Starvation and disease were swiftly destroying all whom the Triple Goddess held dear.
It was time for change and Danu knew what she had to do.
Whispered tales of other gods and spirits living in the new world had reached her. One of them had visited Danu while she'd slept the night before. He'd heard her sorrows from a great distance and had crossed the dreamworld to find the goddess. He'd made an offer that could not be denied, for it would help save her people and his.
The sacrifice, though...
Danu shuttered.
Stepping back from the edge of the Cliff, she gathered her breath and courage.
If such a price were to be paid, Danu would do all that she could to help her children, whether in Ireland or abroad.
