Chapter Eighty- Three
Daniella
Michael and I walk around the local Target, grabbing a few things I know we need around the house. I wanted to do something normal people would do today. Shopping at Target is something a normal person would do.
All around us, we see people not-so-subtly snapping pictures of us. Sometimes I wish they would cut it out or at least ask us to pose for some pictures so they can get what they need and leave. I understand they have a job to do but come on. We are people too.
But not even a lack of privacy can kill our mood today. We are truly on cloud nine with this news.
"How obvious would it be if we stopped by the baby section?" I ask, buying my bottom lip inquisitively.
"Daniella you probably aren't that far along." He places his hand on the small of my back to keep me close as people move in on us in the home decor section. "We don't need anything yet."
"Just to look?" I smile, showing all of my teeth, hoping to convince him. I am too excited to wait.
"If we go over there for even a second, the whole world will know before we even leave the store. I want this to be ours for at least a little while longer." He makes a good point.
I can not argue with that fact even if I wanted to. This time is special for us and it will not be ours for much longer. We should savor it while we can. We hardly get anything to ourselves anymore.
"I'm pouting inside my head because I don't feel like reading breakup rumors on the internet in an hour." I keep a smile on my face for the cameras who are getting more obvious and close to us. "So I am smiling but know that I've got a lip quivering sadly."
We continue walking.
"It's too early anyways." I shake the idea out of my head. "We told the boys. That's enough for now. It's dangerous to tell people this early." I remind myself this is probably the best course of action.
We move on to the next section of the store, passing all of the adorable little baby clothes on our way. I try my hardest to not even look. Any picture of me looking at the little onesies could tip the internet off about our secret. Even the tiniest glance could be captured in a second.
"God, I wish I could tell my mom." I grab a box of popcorn off the shelf, examining it to make sure it is the right kind.
"Me too." Michael sighs, tossing a bag of chips into the cart, most definitely breaking all of them in the process. "They would be so happy for us."
I look up and smile at him. He pulls me closer, kissing the top of my head.
Snap. Snap. Snap.
We turn to see who is taking pictures of us with their sound on. Come on people, really? They are getting closer and closer just to get a few pictures of us.
We move on to the next section. The camera-happy shoppers follow us.
"Okay this is getting ridiculous-" Michael turns and I can tell he is about to yell at them. I distract him by slapping a huge hat on his head. The ends flop down in his face. I laugh as he look of anger fades into one of confusion. He returns his gaze to me before removing the hat. He examines it.
The oversized hat is floppy, pink, and covered in flowers. It is definitely his style. I know he absolutely hates it. That's what makes me love it.
