Pursue God for a relationship with Him not what He can give you. So often we want He gifts that God offers but don't want to spend time with Him. Like asking your parent for money but never talking to them other than that. We demand that God fix our lives or give us peace and joy but we don't do want gives us peace and joy. I don't mean activities I mean spending time in God's presence. That is where good things come from. Fruit comes from the root of the plant. That means if you want the fruits of the spirit you need to have your root in God because that is the only way to produce He fruits of the spirt. If your roots are in people, money, possessions, or anything other than God then you will only produce rotten fruit. I'm not saying you will never be happy but I am saying that you will never experience God's abundant joy when your roots are in the world. Build a relationship with God and spend time with Him, the rewards will follow but that shouldn't be the reason you pursue Him.
