Your walk with God won't change everything in your life instantly. You need to devote time to Him and trying to change your life through Him. If you want God to change your life you have to be willing to change. You can't expect to have all the peace and joy of being a Christian and then not be willing to do anything to get those things. To be full of joy and peace you have to walk with God and make Him a priority. You can't just believe in God but never do anything with your faith because true faith in Him should make you want to do things in Him. It doesn't make sense to expect God to change your life if you don't change the way you live your life to follow Him. However if you do change the way you live to follow God, do the things He tells you to, and believe in Him then it absolutely will change your life. Your life will be full of peace, love, and hope, of you choose to walk by God and live the way He does. When you give your trials and worries to Him you will be full of peace, when you pray to Him you will experience His hope and love.
