Chapter 44.1: Last Christmas, I gave you my heart...

Warning! Long chapter ahead. You might want to take a break while reading😭

And I might edit this later. Sorry for the mistakes!😭

When Louise felt the sudden shaking of the ground inside the dome, she sat still, just like she had used to do on the days that the great monster Namazu below Japan had woken up again in between the fault lines, causing havoc.

"Ochitsuke..." She nods to the old ladies sitting on her both sides, calming them down. She then sits still to calm her anxious ass down when a stronger earthquake shakes their seats.

"OH, FUCK!" she shrieks. The ground kept on shaking for another minute, and Louise was shouting prayers to her ancestors. "Portodos los Dioses los Santos y Las Virgenese..."

She looks up above her, wishing someone in heaven was listening, and yells in between the shaking of the ground. "I wanted to see mom, but not in this way?!"

"I take it back; I don't want to be a mincemeat!"

"I promise to be a better person from now on!"

"I'll learn sports!"

And then the shaking stops abruptly, as does her shrieking.

"What the hell?" she looks up in heaven, stunned.

The two old ladies look at Louise worriedly as she almost submerges herself in her seat in fear.

Panicking voices can be heard anywhere, as well as the cries of terrified children that made Louise remember Ichika and her mom. Even with the threat of her anxiety starting to build up, she forces herself to run to where they are seated to check on them.

She found Ichika's mom wrapped around her daughter protectively, and that made her realize that she's the one who brought them to Osaka to watch the Nationals so they are her responsibility.

When the staffs announced that they should evacuate the area, Louise urged them to leave with the rescuers for their safety.

"But...I want to watch Ojiro-nii!" Of course, Ichika was hesitant to go. Ojiro was the main reason they wanted to watch the Nationals afterall.

"Chika-chan, the place is dangerous. We need to go now," her mom pleaded.

"Please, please, let's stay a bit. I really want to see Ojiro-nii skate!"

The ground shakes again, and she automatically wraps her arms around the mother and daughter.

"I'm so sorry, Ichika-chan, but you need to listen to your mom. You have plenty of time to watch Ojiro live again. I can get his latest photobooks for you, and I'll make him sign on them. I promise! Just...let's get out of here first."

"H...hai," her poor sidekick nods in tears.

They got out of the building safely along with the other group of fans, but then Louise stopped in her tracks, remembering something.

Oh no, I forgot to take it with me!

She told them to go with the rescuers without her and ran to the entrance of the dome to retrieve the package that she had with her. In her way, two guards block her, preventing her from going inside again.

She doesn't have a choice but to use her incredibly destructive weapon.

Her leather bag.

She swings it to them to get them off her way, and as soon as she gets the chance, she bolts away and runs towards the bleachers. Some of the crowds are already getting in line to evacuate the area, so she makes her way in between the crowds to the bleachers.

Louise found the package sitting on the plastic chair where she was seated. She retrieved it, cradling it to her bosom like a baby.

It contains her birthday gift for Ojiro.

In complete contrast to her birth date, where the world pays respect to the spirits and celebrates the world of the dead, Ojiro is as special as the date he was born on Christmas day. The merriest month of the year when the whole planet celebrates love and a new life is born in to the world.

And just like the traditional Christmas she had grown up with in her own culture, giving gifts to loved ones is traditionally followed by her, and it's her querido's birthday.

Now that they are dating, she couldn't help but appreciate Ojiro more for taking his time learning the things that she likes just to get her attention, and for once, Louise wanted to give something to the man that she loves, something that he would like.

Something other than just spreading my legs.

But Louise thought later on that maybe she could use it too as an extra special present.

It can be really useful too because Christmas in Japan was celebrated quite differently from most foreign countries. It was instead celebrated like a Japanese Valentine's Day. A day of love for couples rather than for families.

Louise had noticed her female coworkers taking trips to salons when the holidays came.

There's this common etiquette for coworkers in Japan: never ask a woman what they did for Christmas, because if it didn't sound like you were being nosy, they would definitely just lie about it.

Just the fact that love hotels are fully booked on Christmas Eve has explained enough of it.

"Must be nice," Louise sighs while listening to her female coworkers talking to each other about their date plans.

Tokyo offers a lot of wonderful spots and places to see during Christmas day, and the most favorite activities for couples to do are meet in front of the iconic big Christmas tree in the downtown area near Tokyo station, exchange gifts in front of it, eat at KFC afterwards, and what would a couple do after all their romantic lovey-dovey night strolling?

Spend a night together in a love hotel, of course.

But Louise knows that all of this won't be possible for her and Ojiro. His birthday is the same as the day of the Japan Nationals, and as a top athlete, he dedicated his energy and time to his sports and even to the important events of his life. Family and personal affairs would always come second.

So, she shows her support by finishing all her week-long work just to get in on time for the trip he sponsored to Osaka and watch him skate live.

Ojiro had sulked a bit when she missed his skating in Nagano, so she wanted to make it up to him, and even if he doesn't have the time to celebrate, she still wanted to give him a birthday present.

Louise started to think about the present thoroughly a month before his birthday, and at first, she just felt so lost. The thought of Kaede's smirk every time that she saw her, like slapping her face with the fact that 'Nothing knows Ojiro better than me, gaijin', is slowly raining down on her.

I won't lose to you, Querida!

And in her desperate attempt, Louise had actually searched online: "What is the best thing to give to your boyfriend on his birthday?"

The first answer came up. "Give him a blow job."

She narrowed her eyes on the screen and threw her head back, sighing. He should have known that search engines like this give the most ridiculous answers.

Uhh, wait. Blow job is actually good, though.

Ojiro will totally like it...

No! Come on, think for once, Gedemet!

To help herself, she made a list of possible things that she knew Ojiro would like or find useful. Just like an expensive tie that he could wear during interviews, futuristic gadgets for training, or video games.

But Ojiro already has all of them. From the newest gadgets, fashion trends that his stylist makes him wear, the newest games, the newest Tenga...

What can I give to a man who already has everything?

She heard the girls one time in the lockers while she was untying her skates and getting ready to call it a day. They are discussing their plans to celebrate Ojiro's birthday, and of course the first item on the list is to secure a ticket to the Nationals.

"I'm going to meet up with the girls in front of the venue. I'm going to give out keychains and take pictures with them!"

"Houtou? Watashi mo! I have made posters to cheer Ojiro-kun. Let's have cake after the competition!"

She also heard it from Ichika. Most of them attend the Nationals annually to show their support. A lot of fans and groups in Japan and from all over the world arranged birthday events for Ojiro to greet him.

Ojiro's birthday is a special day for the fandom, and fans put in a lot of effort to extend their greetings to their idol.

It was like an Ojiro's fan festival.

"So...have you thought of a present for him?" Kaede asks beside him, stuffing her skates inside her luggage.

Louise gave her her angelic smile.

Why do you care, Serpientina?

"No, I can't think of anything," she confessed.

She thought that Kaede would mock her for it, but she smiles at her in a sympathetic way. She knows Ojiro well after all.

"Well, I can't help you much with that."

Who told you I needed your help?

"But what I knew about Ojiro is..."

I knew it! You will bring that up again.

"He can appreciate small things," she mumbled.

Though she hates to admit it, Kaede's advice actually helped her start again with her list.

She doesn't know about it, but one of the things that Louise observes from Ojiro is that, other than figure skating is...he loves building.

He always has those Gundam robots that he builds piece by piece in his rarest free time. He said it's one of the things that keeps his thoughts occupied, but she suspects that it's like spending alone time with himself while thinking of his next figure skating routine.

Gundam Gunpla is something Ojiro would surely appreciate, but she also considered something else.

Louise found a book from one of her junior animators about random homemade gifts that Japanese boyfriends would definitely love, like cookies, chocolate, pastries, and crochets.

At first, Lousie thought that it was obviously made for high school teenagers looking for tips to create something nice to put under the classroom table of their crush, but Louise still wanted to give it a try.

He can appreciate small things.

She's sure that it was something that Ojiro would like.
