November 2022 - IntoTheTempest

Welcome to our interview for this month! We are with this talented author, IntoTheTempest, who penned the story, Necromancy In D Minor.

Dark Fantasy Team: What was your inspiration for this story?

IntoTheTempest: I've always wanted to write a story where music is a form of magic. I also wanted to explore a world that was being ravaged by a seemingly unstoppable force. Lastly, this was an experiment in writing better side characters. I wanted each non-protagonist character to be autonomous. It was very important that they exist and stand on their own outside the main characters scope, so reader could look at them and say "okay, I could see this character having their own story."

DF: How did you come up with the title for your story?

I: It's a play on Mozart's Requiem in D.

DF: If you could meet the character(s) that you've created, what would you say to them?

I: I'd ask Octavia to step on me. Seriously, I love her so much. She's my favourite protagonist I've written so far. I'd ask Quintus and Jaredeth out for drinks. I imagine they'd be fun to hang out with.

DF: Do you share your writing with friends and/or family outside of Wattpad?

I: Absolutely not.

DF: What genre do you think is the easiest to write?

I: Speaking for myself. I love Fantasy, and I feel like I'm at the point where I have a blueprint for how I should build a world, but it's very labour intensive. I think Paranormal is a bit easier because it has all the intrigue and mysticism of Fantasy but without the labour intensive worldbuilding.

DF: Is there another story in the works that you would like to share with the readers?

I: I'm working on my NaNoWriMo project right now. It may be up by the time this is posted. It's a paranormal romance set in the 1920s. The main character is a Bloodletter who's been possessed by a fallen angel. She's trying to help a town that's been overrun by demons, and one of said town's most eligible bachelor's takes interest in her, which complicates things, because romance is complicated.

DF: What is your favorite quote?

I: "Just bury me in the ocean with my ancestors that jumped from the ships because they knew death was better than bondage." – Erik Killmonger.

DF: What is your typical writing space like? What do you usually need to stay focused?

I: I have three choices of where to write: my bed, my sewing machine or the floor, and I hate them all, but i make it work. Once I'm fed and hydrated, I can churn out words. I don't any need specific fuel.

DF: What was one thing that you edited out of your story? Why?

I: I edited out a huge chunk of text where my main character was just kind of wandering aimlessly. It didn't add anything to the story so there was no need to keep it.

DF: What are your future plans with writing? Whether be it in or out Wattpad?

I: I've been trying to get my foot into some doors outside of Wattpad. I've been slushreading for a fiction magazine, doing mentorship programmes, and working on some short stories that I hope to publish in the future.
