scars of survival
Bucky has been living in the tower for a week now and has not left Steve's room once, so wheb he turns up at team dinner everyone is shocked. Steve tries to persuade Bucky to take off his jacket but Bucky refuses, Clint sees it and not liking the insecurity Bucky shows pulls off his shirt and raps at the table.
Once Bucky is looking his way he starts talking "scars aren't something to be ashamed if, it shows how strong you were to survive getting them" Clint says, very aware of all eyes on his scarred chest and shoulders. Bucky's eyes on his shoulders prompts him to explain the scars, he traces a scar to the right of his heart " I was in Cairo and some thug attacked me with a knife".
He moves to the next scar just under his collarbone "my father was an alcoholic and abusive. He came after me with a beer bottle and tried to slit my throat but he was drunk, he missed" he explains. The next scar he wants to show is on his arm so he bears the thickened skin to them "I refused to wear an arm brace during a dark time, it scarred and won't go away". He lays his hand on his shoulder "Different method, same reason, same outcome" He explains for the thin razor width lines criss crossing over his shoulder.
He turns his back to reveal his most hated scars and hears hisses from his team at the sight, scars of perfect circular burns, white lines, a brand on his shoulderblade though unrecognizable "I got captured when I was a mercenary for hire, they wanted me to work for them I didn't want to so they tried to force me, the circles are cigarette burn marks, lines are whips and the brand used to be the mark of the people but I burnt it over to just look like a mauled mess" Bucky runs his eyes over him "none of you think I'm weak now do you? So when your comfortable, Bucky you can take off the jacket" Clint says, shrugging on his shirt.
Later that night Clint was on the couch alone in the room and Bucky joined him, laying a hand on Clint's shoulder and slowly taking off his jacket. The line where the metal was worked into his skin is clearly visible and Clint feels honoured to see it. Without thinking he leans to the side and kisses the puckered scar and then freezes but Bucky doesn't seem to mind and even leans toward Clint to kiss his shoulder, tracing a few pale white lines with his fingers. Clint sighs and leans his head back onto Bucky's shoulder as Bucky slings an arm over his shoulder. Clint fell asleep content with the thought that maybe scars may bring pain and memories but they also bring happiness in the end
