Chapter 11
SEE YOU, ROXANNA.
That's all he said and I got a feeling that it meant he'll be at the field to watch practice. But it's been half an hour after school for today ended and he's not here. Coach divided the team into two, black against yellow and we're about to start yet he's not here. Well, he just said 'see you, Roxanna' it's not exactly a yes or no. I'm disappointment, nonetheless.
"Ready?" Coach shouted placing the ball in the middle of Aiden - my team mate and Bart, the opponent. He brings his hand down the middle and whistles. I tear my eyes off the bleachers and my mind off Ian as the game begins.
It turns out to be a frustrating practice, not only because I'm completely cranky but also because, bull head Aiden Macer refuses to pass to me. He's being petty and a fucktard just because I dissed him yesterday on our 'date'. Seriously, of all times to be petty its today?
I turn back to the bleachers and this time I don't even search. Right on the top, the same spot as the other day, I see Ian. He watching me but I can't really tell the expression on his face. The sun won't let me see. I smile and go back to the game feeling a lot better but my feeling plummets again when Lionel Chase slams into me with his huge body sending me to the ground with full force. Just then the whistle for half time blows and we have a five minutes break.
"Anna." Finn helps me off the ground and I inspect my legs for injuries but there's none. "Are you okay?"
"Peachy." I grit out and storm away from him to Aiden who's talking with some guys. "Excuse me?"
Aiden acknowledged me and silently turned to me, sending his guys off. I shoved him, making him tumble back and almost to his butt. "What the hell Anna?"
"What's wrong with you? Just because you didn't like the way things turned out between us on our 'coffee thing' doesn't give you the right to be a dick." I lash.
Aiden held a poker face, "I don't know what you mean, Anna."
I scoff, "oh don't start with me Macer, you clearly weren't passing to me when playing. I don't know what's with you but on this field we're supposed to play football which is all that matters. And we have a scrimmage on Friday, are you really messing it up because you're mad at me?"
He face softens, "Anna--"
"Hold it." I cut him off. "We make a good team, I'll hate to see that die along with the little respect I still have for you on this field." I turn to walk away, "and please tell your lackey to piss off."
By the time second half begins, Aiden's clearly had a change of heart. He makes passes to me and we play just like before with no extra shoves from Lionel. Once the game is over, coach gives us a talk and dismisses everyone.
Ian's still on the bleachers and he has a book spread out on his thigh. I pick a ball, aim at him and shoot it. I watch the ball fly through the air and just when I'm starting to think of places to bury myself in when I give my crush a concussion, Ian catches the ball before it hit him. He lowers it down and smirks at me, I laugh and run up the bleachers to meet him.
"Hi."
"Hey," he throws the ball back at me, "so, soccer."
I smile, dropping down right beside him. "Yeah. I didn't think you'd come."
"I didn't know you were on the soccer team." He says smiling at me.
"Why? Would that have influenced your arrival." I teased.
He shrugs, glancing down at the book spread on legs. "Why soccer?"
"Why not soccer?" I fire back and he smirks.
"I mean, it's kinda unusual and there's only two of you. But that's beside the point, why it?"
I shrug this time, throwing the ball in my hand up and down. "I like it. I've always loved football and its the one thing only I know how to do back home. I use to do it a lot with my dad when I was younger. He was a soccer champ in his days but an injury put him out and now he's a doctor. He's so busy nowadays, I barely see him and playing... playing reminds me of him, I guess."
Silence.
"You're good." Ian says out of the blue right before my mind wanders off. I turn to him with a raised brow. "You're good at it. Your father should be proud."
I smile, "he is. And I didn't know you were watching me."
"I was, its hard not to." He says like its nothing and I struggle to keep my composure and not freak out or melt. "I even saw that douche bag hit you and your little fight with your boy friend."
Wait, what?
"Boyfriend?"
Ian points ahead to Aiden and his boys, "The captain, I think."
"Aiden Macer? No no, Aiden's not my boyfriend. He's just a douche bag ex who I have absolutely nothing to do with anymore. Aiden has a girlfriend even, that Barbie Munroe I was telling you about. That's his girlfriend. Aiden and I have nothing except soccer together." I ramble out.
"Oh." Ian says fighting a smile, "Well I didn't mean boyfriend. I meant boy friend."
"Boy friend?" I ask still not understanding or liking the sound of it.
He smiles, "Yeah like a boy who is your friend."
"Oh." I blush and Ian chuckles, "well he's not my friend either."
"Obviously." He states, "I mean, not after he messed up your day yesterday."
My jaw hangs open at Ian wondering how he knew that. But then he saw us leave together and I called him later. I smirked, "you know you're very perceptive."
"So I've heard."
I laugh and just then the universe turns on me, making my stomach rumble loudly. I burn in embarrassment. "Oops, sorry. I haven't eaten anything tangible today."
Ian nods reaching into his bag. "I almost forgot, I got you something." He brings out a McDonald bag and hands it to me.
Peeking inside, I see a giant burger, Coke and small fry pack. I immediately salivate and I turn to Ian in surprise, "For me? When?"
"Right after school. You said your lunch got wasted and I figured you haven't taken anything yet so... enjoy." He says clapping his hands together.
So that's why he was late.
"God, I could kiss you right now." I exclaim in happiness.
Ian opens his mouth to say something, then shuts it back and looks at his fingers, his cheeks tainted red. He's so cute, I can't help it. I lean in and kiss him on the cheek, spending a second longer. Ian look up surprised and I chew on my lip, blushing like a white goat. He then sits up straight and runs his hand through his hair smiling a little.
"Eat, Roxanna."
With such a deep husky voice, you'll find it hard to believe that he actually blushes and acts so cutely.
"Oh, I will, Ian." I extract the burger and pout when I see tomatoes peeking out of it. I'm tempted to just eat without complain since I didn't actually buy it and Ian didn't know but I can't even stomach the idea. "I don't like tomatoes."
"Really?" He asks and I slowly nod. "Well, I like them. I mean, I don't mind tomatoes at all."
I look at the burger and him, then smile. "Are you trying to say something, Ian?"
"Like?" He raises his brow in confusion.
I chuckle, open the burger and extract one piece of tomato. "Ah."
"What? No no, Roxanna, just throw them out." He protests using a hand to cover his mouth.
"I don't want to waste food and you like them so why not?" I try again. "Just open up. Ah."
"Okay, I'll feed myself." He attempts to take the slice of tomato from me but I don't let him.
"I want to. Come on."
He narrows his eyes, "You're stubborn."
"I know. Now open up, I'm starving here." He debates with himself for seconds before he reluctantly opens his mouth to let me feed him.
My grin is face splitting. Ian glares at me as he chews and flips a page of his textbook. I feed him the others until all the tomatoes are finished. Even the way he chews is sexy. The way he reads is super sexy. Then when he's chewing and reading, its a miracle I'm not a liquid mess.
"What are you reading?" I ask him, taking my first bite off the super delish burger.
He lifts the front hard cover up, "Thermodynamics."
"Nerd."
"Jock." He reiterates and I laugh. I want to ask about Matt but its not any of my business. I don't want to push him away with my busybody.
We fall into a comfortable silence as I eat and try to subtly ogle him while he reads.

"So, what's up with you and Ian?" Jamie asked holding her bag close to her as one of the bag straps cut loose earlier today.
I shrug, fighting a smile. Even his name is now a smile trigger. "We're friends."
"Friends?" She asks looking up at me, then down at her feet. "Just friends?"
I nudge her, "Why the weird questions?"
She shrugs, smiling but it doesn't quite reach her eyes. "Nothing. People have been asking me what's with you guys. You've been seen with him quite a number of times."
I roll my eyes, "People should start minding their freaking business."
"I know right." She sighs, "but just out of curiosity, you both are seriously just friends?"
I stick my chin up in thought. "Yes, for now."
"For now? Meaning?"
I don't get to answer Jamie because I see an angry Christine hitting her foot hard on her scooter. I rush to her before she angrily does something stupid. "What's wrong?"
Christine looks up in anger, her hair messed up due to the number of times she's probably run her hands through it. "It's this stupid bike! It just won't turn on. Why won't it turn on?!"
Jamie starts laughing and shuts up when Christine transfers her deathly glare to her. "Um...maybe it's faulty?"
"How helpful." Christine says sarcastically and I know she's had it up to her neck with this one.
"Is there like an engine or something?" I ask walking around to the front but all I see is a fuel tank.
"I don't know. I don't know a thing about this stupid... thing." She yells.
"Hey, Jamie!" My body stills at the sound of the voice and when I look up, my heart skips a bit. Ian walks over to us, his strides long and oozing with confidence. He throws something to Jamie and she catches it, leaving her bag to fall to the ground. I watch as she blushes and picks up her bag.
"Thanks." He looks up at me and I swear my heart stops.
"Uh maybe you should keep it with you." Jamie says giving what I now see is a key back to Ian.
Ian slowly looks away from me and back to Jamie. "Why?"
Jamie smiles, "Well you seem to like the office so much. I'm thinking; why not bring a bed in?"
Ian smiles and my heart clenches. "Very funny. But no, I'll probably lose it."
Jamie then reaches out for his hand, and drops the key on his palm. "Keep it."
I can't explain what I'm feeling but I hate it.
Ian looks at me and maybe my eyes were screaming out to him but he blushes and yanks his hand out of Jamie's. "No, thanks."
Jamie opens her mouth to speak but I beat her to it, snapping out loud. "Jamie just keep the bloody key."
Jamie looks surprised at my outburst and Ian smirks. I huff, muttering nonsense to myself as I turn away to walk to my car, forgetting about Christine and her scooter.
"Anna, seriously?" Christine calls after me looking annoyed but I could see the glint of amusement in her eyes. It makes me madder.
"Just leave the stupid thing there and I'll give you a ride." I say turning back to them. I feel Ian's eyes on me but I struggle not to look at him.
I don't even know exactly why I'm mad but I am and its directed at him.
"What's wrong with it?" Ian speaks up and this time I look at him but he's looking at Christine Scooter.
"I don't know it just won't start." Christine says.
Ian walks over to the bike, opens some place at the side that I didn't even know was there. After a few touches, he mounts the scooter and he's a thousand times taller than it, I don't even think he can successfully ride it. He starts it and after a lot of coughs and rumbles, the old thing comes to life.
"Wow." Christine and Jamie say at the same time in wonder and awe. I'm pretty awed to but my anger won't let me show it and I just stand there, glaring at no particular person with my arms crossed.
"Thanks a lot, you're a life saver." Christine says in appreciation and Ian shrugs.
"Anytime." He looks at us three. "Bye." Christine and Jamie reply, I don't and he does the most unexpected of him. He walks close to me, looking at me like I'm the only one in the lot. I keep eye contact but it becomes pretty overwhelming and I have to look away before I combust.
Once he's so close, breaking the laws of personal space, he says, "Bye Roxanna." I'm having an internal battle when he leans in pressing his lips to my cheek and declaring the battle over.
I'm pretty stunned and by the time my heart beat returns to normal, Ian's already out of the school's property walking away. How does a shy guy like him manages to knock my senses out like this? I don't even know I'm smiling until Christine speaks.
"What did he say to leave you like a high eel?"
Oh, they didn't see him kiss me. They think he whispered to my ear. Nicely played, Ian Maurice.
I blush then stick my chin up at her. "None of your business." I giggle my way to my car, my heart fluttering.
