Chapter 39:
Days passed and we fell into a new routine. Ezra had stayed a few more days at the house after the funeral and we started working towards our new normal. I was glad he decided to stay a little bit longer after I bribed him with some very indecent sexual favors. He was slightly uncomfortable staying here and was starting to feel like he was putting my Mom out. I knew he enjoyed being here with us, but every day he started talking more and more about finding a place of his own to live.
I woke up one morning to find him packing his bag as quietly as he could. He was sneaking around the room like he didn't want me to know what he was doing. When he saw I was awake, he walked over and kissed my head.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"Sorry, Beautiful, I didn't mean to wake you up. I called around and found a hotel I can stay at. They rent the rooms by the week, so I can stay there long enough until I figure out my living situation. I can't go back to that apartment." He said as he walked over and picked up his bag.
"Don't go." I said, tearing up.
"Riley, I will get this figured out soon. I can't be homeless. I have to find a nice enough place to live, so you and Jessa feel safe when you stay over." He said, trying to calm me down. I had just gotten him back and I was scared if he left, I would lose him again.
"Please." I begged with my bottom lip quivering.
"Don't cry, baby. It's only temporary. I love you and I will call you as soon as I get settled in." He walked to the door and opened it. I jumped out of bed and chased him out into the hallway.
"So you're just going to leave me again?" I said frantically.
"Don't be dramatic. You know what I am doing." He said, shaking his head.
"I do. You're leaving and I don't know where you're going. Are you leaving me? Do you want her back?" I said, shaking.
"You are being irrational and paranoid. Jenna and I were done the moment I bumped into you on the street. You don't ever need to worry about that. I love you and would never hurt you again, but it's not like I can just grab all my stuff from the apartment and move it in here!" He said, raising his voice back to me.
"Why not?" My Mom said with her arms folded across her chest as she stood in the doorway of her bedroom. Our fight must have woken her up. I felt terrible for putting her in the middle of this.
"What?" Ezra said as he turned to look at my Mom in shock.
"Why not move in here?" She said, smiling at him. "We've got space."
"I couldn't just put you out like that." Ezra said to my Mom.
"Put me out? Do you know what I will have to put up with from these two girls if you leave now? Trust me. You would be doing me a favor." My Mom laughed.
Ezra looked back at me and I crossed my arms over my chest, waiting for his answer. He looked back at my Mom and shook his head.
"You're not even going to let me try to talk you both out of this, are you?" A huge smile spread across his face and he chuckled.
"It's settled then. Take your bag back to your room right now, young man. I'm not going to tell you twice." My Mom was as stubborn as I was. Ezra was doomed.
He readjusted the bag on his shoulder and started walking back towards my room. My Mom turned and walked back down the steps celebrating her victory.
He grabbed me and pulled me back into the room with him and threw the bag on the chair.
"Guess I'm staying." He said, pulling me to him. "I'm going to have to go to the hardware store today. Want to go with me?"
"Why?" That sounded like a weird statement after the argument we just had. I was not following his logic.
"I have to soundproof this room." He laughed.
"Huh?" I didn't get it.
"Your Mom heard us bickering and we weren't even that loud. If she heard that, she will kick me out for sure when she hears all the dirty things I do to you." He pulled his mouth up into his wicked half-smile.
"Jessa's still asleep. Do you want to start now?" I said, smiling.
Ezra reached back and locked the door behind us.
I was on cloud nine, having my family together again. JD stayed in town a few more days before having to go back. When he found out Ezra was staying, he was relieved that my Mom and I would be looked after. JD and Ezra had let go of the past and we were all moving forward.
Jessa was Ezra's shadow over the next few weeks. She followed him around the house morning, noon, and night. He played with her, sang to her, fed her, and put her to sleep most nights. He was so good with her; their bond was stronger than ever.
Ezra spent his days, when he wasn't at the studio, fixing things around the house and helping with the chores. It was nice to have some muscle around the house, not to mention some height to get things down from really tall shelves. He would laugh at me every time he caught me up on my tiptoes, trying to wiggle something just out of my reach or trying to climb on the counter to get something down. I came home one day to a small step stool with a bow on it. He laughed when I drug it over to him to stand on it to kiss him.
Ezra spent his nights whispering his dirty words into my ear until my body was on fire for him. He cherished me with every press of his fingertips, every kiss against my skin. I lost myself every time he traced my body with his tongue tasting me. He showed me how much he needed and adored me as he released himself into me, moaning my name between breaths. I would come unraveled around him time and time again.
He took me everywhere and in every way. We had always had undeniable chemistry in the bedroom and I always craved more. Being with him felt new and exciting each time we touched. I could never get enough of him. I loved him and all the things he made me feel. He was my everything.
Ezra's phone was buzzing like crazy one night on the nightstand. He was completely out from the marathon session we just had. My knees were shaking and I could barely move to grab the phone to see who would be calling this late. I looked down at the screen, hell no.
Jenna.
