Goodbyes
Noctis
What is he doing here and why isn't anyone attacking him? My mate is a rogue! How is he just standing there, staring at me?
"Come again?" Josh speaks.
"She's my mate," the man repeats.
I still can't find the words to speak so I do the next thing I can think of. Run. I run inside and all the way up to my room. I lock the door and sit on my bed, calming my breathing. After a few minutes, I stand up from my bed and walk over to the bathroom. I take a twenty minute hot shower and most of the time I just stand there, soaking up what just happened. I get out of the shower with a warm, fluffy towel and my phone buzzes on the counter. I pick it up.
"Lieutenant Noctis Kilo," I say into the speaker.
"Lieutenant Kilo, we have word of the rogues that have moved to Iran. I need your platoon leaving England as soon as possible," Sergeant Ross tells me.
"We will leave in an hour," I hang up the phone and change into my uniform. The humans in the military believe that rogues are the name given to the group of people who are attacking soldiers.
I put on my black t-shirt, camouflage pants, camouflage jacket and my khaki coloured combat boots. I shove the rest of my stuff in my duffle bag and fix my hair in the ponytail. I sling my duffle bag over my shoulder and head out to find my platoon. Thank goddess I don't have to deal with this mate thing right now. I know it sounds horrible, but I would rather run then face another possible rejection.
I walk downstairs and follow their scent to the kitchen. I walk into to see most of the pack sitting at the dining table eating lunch. This may have been a mistake. My eyes pass over my mate, who is surprisingly still here, and find my platoon near the end of the table. I walk to them and lean in close.
"We have to go, Sergeant Ross called. You have one hour before we leave," I tell them in a low voice. They all nod and get up from their seats to change and pack.
"You guys are leaving?" Quinton asks from the other side of the table.
"Yes. Thank you for your hospitality Alpha Quinton. If you ever need any help, you have my number," I let him know in a serious tone.
He nods and Luna Blair says goodbye. I walk to the front door of the pack house while I wait for my platoon. I hear footsteps approaching me and by the intoxicating smell, it's him. I turn to see him standing about six feet away from me, looking sad.
"Where are you going?" He asks.
"To track the rogues," I reply.
"Why do you have to go? Don't you want to stay here....with me?" He pleads.
"I can't leave my platoon, I have a duty to serve and that is exactly what I am going to do," I respond.
"I-I guess I understand. Are you...I mean are we..." he sighs, "Are you rejecting me?" He asks, sorrow in his voice.
I am shocked, "No, I am not. I just can't be tied down right now, I need to live my life while I still can. We can keep in touch if you want, Quinton has my cell number," I look behind him to see my platoon coming towards us. "I have to go. It was nice meeting you...um..."
"Right, my name is Ash," he holds out a hand.
I don't shake his hand because it will hurt me more to leave him, "Noctis."
I turn and leave out the front door with my team following close behind. We are going to have to shift to get to where we are going because it is so far. I turn to see Ash looking at me from the doorway. No one else is around. My team is looking to me and I nod, telling them to go and I will catch up. Ash salutes me causing me to laugh and I salute him right before I shift into Amara. I look up to see him with his jaw open wide and love in his eyes. I smirk before running off to catch up with my platoon. I get to them and they all look at me with shock. This is the first time they have seen my wolf.
After running for a few hours, we arrive at the port where we catch the ferry to the Netherlands. We shift back and walk up to the small building to buy tickets for the next ferry.
"Hello, we need four tickets for the next ferry," I tell the woman.
She looks up from the computer screen and nods to me. She types something into the computer and the sound of a printer fills the room. I hand her some money and she gives me the four tickets. I hand one ticket to each member of my team and we walk to the boarding dock. We find our seats away from all of the humans on the ferry and my platoon all turns to me.
"What?" I ask, innocently.
"What? What! Noctis, you just ran away from your mate! You only get one and you just left him without a second thought!" Kai exclaims.
This makes me frown, "He is my second chance, I was scared of being rejected again," I whisper, but they heard me.
"Sorry Noctis, we didn't know," Silas apologizes.
"It's fine. I explained to him why I had to go before your guys came down from packing."
They nod and we go the rest of the way in silence.
Ash
After seeing that beautiful girl walking through the rogue camp with three other people, I have been searching for her all over. I have stopped communications with my pack and decided to just focus on finding my mate.
It has been a few weeks since I was with the rogues and I have given up on finding her. She can't be with any pack since she is a rogue along with her friends she was with. I am heading back to my pack today. I am close to the boarder when I run into Walt, a pack guard.
"Hey man, how are you?" He asks me while giving me a fist bump.
"Good Walt, are you going to let me go to the pack house?" I ask, motioning to him blocking my path.
"Right, sorry. Go ahead Ash, nice to have you back," Walt grins and steps aside.
I give him a small smile before walking into the territory towards the pack house. It's nice to finally be home. I am almost to the training field when I hear some cheering. They must be in a fight right now. Josh and his ego is probably taking down a pack member in a brutal fight. I smirk and I walk into the clearing. That's when it hits me. Ocean and coconut. My mate is here?
I look around to find where the scent is coming from and I see that beautiful girl that is pinned beneath Josh. Anger rises in me and I growl at Josh. I see Josh tense, ready to fight, but then he looks at me and confusion crosses his face. He makes no move to get off of my mate, so I go to growl at him again. Before the growl can release from my chest, the girl grabs the sides of Josh's head with her feet and she throws him to the ground. I see her smirk and stand up, offering a hand to Josh. They both fist bump and I growl at Josh for touching my mate.
My beautiful mate finally turns around and I get the first clear view of her face. She has long black hair tied in a messy ponytail and piercing forest green eyes. She is so beautiful.
"Mate," I whisper before I can stop myself.
"What did you say?" Josh asks.
"She's my mate," I repeat without looking away from my beautiful mate.
I can see her trying to think of what to say and a single tear rolls down her face which she ignores. She turns around and runs into the pack house, leaving me there is shock. Is she going to reject me? All I have wanted was a mate.
"What just happened? Where did she go?" I ask Josh.
Josh dismisses everyone and walks up to me, "She probably went to her room. Listen Ash, she has been through a lot in her life, so please give her some space."
I want to protest, but I know he is probably right, "Okay, I will give her some space."
Josh pats me on the back and he heads inside. I take a deep breath before I follow him in. Everyone is sitting at the table for lunch. The table if decorated with sandwiches and burgers. I take my spot beside Josh and then Quinton walks in. Shit, I forgot to tell him I'm back.
We will talk after lunch, Quinton tells me.
Yes Alpha, I reply.
I see him nod and everyone begins grabbing food and eating. I notice the two rogues and a vampire sitting at the end of the table. What happened there? A vampire and rogues on pack territory is unheard of, I will have to figure out a way to ask.
"So...not to sound rude or anything, but why are you guys here?" I ask the trio.
"Ash," Quinton warns.
"It's alright Alpha Quinton, we don't mind. We all understand this is an odd situation we have," the girl replies and Quinton nods.
"We are from a special ops platoon in the military and we originally came here to get info on the rogue attacks on the military. We escaped from a rogue camp about a month ago and came back here until our higher ups tell us what to do next. We decided to try to find the rogues again from here since there is more technology; however, we have had no such luck," the vamp explains.
"We're you the guys at the camp that day escaping?" I wonder. I knew my mate was there, but I didn't realize that they were there as well. Is my mate part of this platoon?
"Yeah...how did you know that?" The male rogue questions.
"I was the spy for this pack so I saw you guys leaving," I answer.
The go back to eating and I am about to take a bite of my burger before I smell ocean and coconut. Mate. I look up to see her standing by Quinton in her full military uniform. I guess that answers my previous question. Her eyes just skip over me and land on the three platoon members. She walks right up to them and whispers something that I can't hear. All four of them stand up and leave the dining room. If she planning on rejecting me? Why else won't she give me the time of day? I can hear Flame, my wolf, whining in my head at the thought of his mate not wanting him.
I stand up from my seat and build up the courage to go find my mate. I see her standing at the front door, staring at nothing in particular. As I start walking closer, she looks at me and I stop a few feet away from her.
"Where are you going?" I wonder.
In an emotionless voice she replies with, "Off to track the rogues."
She is going to go searching for them again? After they just kidnapped her?
"Don't you want to stay here with me? Are you going to reject me?" I ask.
"I do wish I could stay here, but I have to go serve with my platoon. I am not rejecting you, I just can't be tied down right now, I need to live my life while I still can. We can keep in touch if you want, Quinton has my cell number," she tells me before looking behind me, "I need to get going. It was nice meeting you...uh..."
Right! She doesn't know my name, "Ash," I hold out a hand for her to shake. Why would she say she wants to live life while she can?
She looks at my hand and back to me, "Noctis," she says without shaking my hand. It makes sense I guess. If you don't feel the sparks, you won't miss your mate as much.
She then walks out of the pack house with the rest of the platoon close behind. I wonder who the leader of the platoon is. She nods to the platoon and they leave, the two rogues shifting. I salute her and she puts on a goofy smile that makes my heart melt. She salutes back and then shifts into her beautiful wolf. Holy shit, she is a white wolf. Is she the white wolf that the rogues are looking for? What have I gotten myself into?
