TARDIS in the Rain (Any Doctor x Reader)
You were running through the park. The sky had decided to give the world a sudden gift of rain, and now it was pouring. Of course you just so happened to forget your umbrella at home that day. Hence the running. Normally you would take the long way home to think, or ride in a cab, but you didn't have the money. Your were already soaked to the bone, and the park was the quickest way home.
You continued to run, hunched over, holding your jacket over your head. Rarely, you would pass by another human being. Most were tucked in their houses, cuddled in blankets. The few that you saw, seemed to all have umbrellas. Unlike you.
As you were running through a lesser known part of the park, something caught your eye. A light atop of something. Perhaps shelter. It was up ahead of you, so you kept running toward it. Finally you were close enough to see what it was. It was certainly not something you saw everyday.
A telephone box. Not the well known red kind that people associate with London, but blue. A large blue telephone box. You slowed down as you got closer, and walked up to it. As you approached, you read the words at the top. "Police Public Call Box." You stopped in front of it. Your jacket dropped from your head and was held by one hand. You stood in what felt like awe. Something about this box called to you. The light was steady and bright. All you could do was stare.
Finally, your body seemed to shake out of its daze, but your mind was still muddled. Maybe it was better this way. You knew your head would try to stop you. Your hand reached up to touch the handle.
Your mind chose that moment to clear. This was insane. You had no idea what this thing was, or who it belonged to. It was just plain rude to barge in.
You were vaguely aware of the sign that said 'Pull to Open'. Your body ignored the commands from the sign and your mind. Rain blurring your vision. Water dripping from your hand, you pushed the door. Surprisingly, it opened. You cautiously stepped inside...
You took a couple of steps inside and let the door close behind you. At least you were finally out of the rain. You looked around and had to blink multiple times to make sure you weren't dreaming. The inside certainly didn't resemble a phone booth.
As you observed your surroundings, you didn't notice the man that was staring at the girl that had intruded his domain. At least until he asked, "Who are you?" You started and turned to look at him. His head tilted in question. You stuttered, "I-I'm Y/N. " He hardly seemed to notice your answer as he briskly walked to the door you had come through. Your eyes followed him as he inspected the door. He muttered to himself, "And how in sanity did you get in?! I could've sworn I'd locked it..."
You had questions of your own. "How is it doing this?" You asked abruptly. The man straightened and whirled around. His eyebrows rose as he returned, "Do what?" You waved your arms at the room around you. The stranger's face broke into a smile. He walked back to what looked like a control panel and answered, "I thought it was obvious. It's bigger on the inside!" You sighed, "Yes, obviously, but how?"
He leaned against the panel and replied, "Gallifreyan technology. Or as you humans would call it, 'alien technology'." He put air quotes around alien technology. You rose one eyebrow and questioned, "Alien?" He smiled again, "Yep." You took a deep breath and released it slowly. After collecting your thoughts you told the man, "Well, I'm sorry I intruded. I'll just go." You turned on your heel and tried to leave, but the man wasn't finished talking. "You handled that pretty well." You stopped and looked back over your shoulder. The stranger was staring intensely at you. You told him, "I guess I just adapt to things pretty well."
His eyes narrowed. He said, almost randomly, "It's raining quite hard out there. Allow me to escort you home."
"What?! N-no, thank you. Besides, how could you?" He gave you a sly smile and simply said, "Just tell me where to go. Trust me." You bit your lip. You knew this couldn't be safe. He was a complete stranger. You didn't even know his name. "What's your name?" You inquired.
"The Doctor." You raised both eyebrows, but compared to everything else, it wasn't that strange. If he really was an alien, then perhaps aliens had odd names like The Doctor. You nodded and took a chance. You told him your address.
He spun around and started pulling levers and pushing buttons. A whirring sound could be heard, and the Doctor shouted over his shoulder, "Hold onto something!" The warning came too late for your brain to comprehend. The supposed "Police Box" bumped and jostled around, sending you to the ground. Finally it stopped. You stayed on the ground and collected your balance.
The Doctor leisurely walked up to you, and put out his hand. You hesitated, but accepted his help. You stood and brushed yourself off. Keeping your eye on him, you opened the door.
You looked out to see... your front door. Your jaw dropped involuntarily. Bigger on the inside, you could handle. Aliens with odd names like the Doctor, you could handle. But transporting the mile and a half to your house in a blue box, was a totally different story. The Doctor chuckled and said, "Well, I finally got you." You shook out of your surprise, and snapped your mouth closed. He continued, "And what's more, is that it's a time machine as well." You couldn't stop the shocked, "Really," from slipping out of your mouth. The man laughed and nodded. You blinked and shook your head. You stepped out of the amazing blue box, and as you turned to say good bye, the Doctor's face seemed to fall.
You awkwardly looked at your feet. You lifted your head and said, "Well, I guess this is good bye, Mr. Doctor." He gave a small smile and replied, "Just the Doctor." You nodded, "Okay then. Good bye Doctor."
Sadness flashed across his face, and you felt pity for this man you had just met. He seemed so alone. You almost wanted to stay.
You took a step backwards, but tripped on your steps. You started to fall backwards. Suddenly, the Doctor's hand grabbed your arm. He helped you back onto your feet for the second time.
"Perhaps leaving you would be dangerous for your health," the Doctor suggested. You smiled up at him. "Perhaps. But I can't go with you, I hardly know you. And I have a life." His face almost looked pleading as he said, "We can get to know each other. And didn't I mention this is a time machine? You won't miss much." The Doctor patted his blue box.
You didn't know what to do. For some reason, you wanted so desperately to travel with this man you hardly knew. On the other hand, your morals and responsibility were screaming that this was a bad idea.
Again, your body seemed to ignore your mind, and your mouth said on its own, "Alright. Maybe just for a little while..." The Doctor exclaimed, "Yes! Wonderful!" Then he took your hand, and spun you back into the blue box. He closed the door behind you both, and you took your last look at your home, for a very long time.
The Doctor practically dragged you forward, and shouted to you and the room, "Welcome to the TARDIS, Y/N! We have all the universe to explore! So, where to first?!" He ran to the controls and looked expectantly at you, waiting for your answer. You grinned at him and replied, "Anywhere, Doctor!"
With those words, your adventures with the Doctor began.
