Chapter 5

"Are vampires the main target here?" I asked.

"Well... We're not sure. Riuyo isn't affected yet but it might be just a matter of time." Shino replied.

"He's awake!" Kurai gasped when Kaede started moving.

"How are you feeling?" I asked.

"I feel dead. There's pain in every movement I make." He replied coldly.

"I feel... The same." Yukai added.

"Anyone else feel like that?" Rojin asked.

"I'm starting to feel it." Shino answered.

"Someone, stand by Shino in case he collapses too." I ordered.

"What's going on?" Riuyo asked nervously.

"The venom. It's killing them. Something is preventing them from merging with the effects. This is the result. Soon enough, they will die. We have to find the cause." I explained.

"Why isn't it affecting us?" Kurai asked.

"We were born vampires. We already have merged venom in our blood. Either that... Or something is controlling their body systems. If one of us gets sick with the same thing, it will prove that a greater evil has awoken." I replied.

"And it will be our job to take it out." Kuriagi added.

"Let's go back to see what we can find. The archives might have some explanation for a way to reverse the effects." Jinriu planned.

I nodded and we all headed back. Shino was holding on, but he could barely keep his consciousness. It took us a couple of hours to arrive and we quickly got Kaede and Shino to the exam room.

"Don't worry. They'll be in good care." Gotsuki reassured.

I smiled and went to my room where I found an interesting clue. Something caught my attention from the corner of my eye, when I walked in. My window had a different set of glass figures than before. Last time I took a good look at it, the glass figures were telling the story of my encounter with Yukai and the battle to destroy the evil that was controlling Kurai. Now, they were telling a different story. One that hasn't been told before. One that will occur in the near future. I couldn't bare the sight of the ending, so I looked away with no emotion.

"Heh... Thanks dad. You helped me again by enchanting the glass figures on my window. Yet you're still being cryptic. This isn't the whole picture, is it? Am I really going to die while protecting my brothers?" I asked in a low voice.

"Naku, something happened in my room!" Kurai yelled as he ran into my room, seeing my tears roll down my face.

"You looked out the window and saw a story written in glass figures?" I asked in tears.

"You die." He said with a heartbroken expression.

"Maybe it's missing a piece. I'm not sure if you remember, but I'm impossible to kill. Remember? You drove countless wooden beams through my body. I was basically a pincushion." I joked.

"Remember when we fought in the gym?" Migeki asked as he walked in the room with Rigeki.

"Yeah. The gym was like a mine field. I remember when we went through the walls." I smiled.

"Those were good times." Rigeki chuckled.

"So, any news you want to say? You wouldn't look for me without reason." I asked.

"You have a visitor." Migeki announced.

"Visitor? Yeah right. How about you try stalker?" Rigeki argued.

"Takira?!" I said in shock.

"Right here baby." She said in a sassy voice as she leaned against the door.

"Sight for sore eyes." I smiled as I went to hug her.

A couple of hours passed by as we caught up with each other. Takira works with my dad in his research, Migeki and Rigeki got back from vacation and decided to join in on the mission while Takira said that she will stay behind and help out with the weapons and get the crystals integrated to the armor. We arrived in the exam room and walked in to meet up with the others.

"Look at what the tide brought in." Shibaki smirked.

"Any details discovered?" I asked.

"It's not contagious." Rojin answered.

"I'll try something crazy." I said while standing next to Yukai.

"What are you doing?" Yukai said in a low voice.

"You did this to save me once. I'm repaying you the favor." I said as I made a small cut on my arm.

I bled a little so that Yukai could drink some. As a last resort, Yukai took a few licks and we waited for a change in his condition. We waited several hours, but his condition kept getting worse. At this point, he was just a human with poison in his veins.

"I was right. Something evil has awoken. It's affecting the bitten vampires. I took a peek at the records of every living creature in this dimension. Only two are reported as bitten vampires. Yukai and Shino, if we exclude Kaede. Shino and Kaede will have better chances of survival since it's just vampire venom, but Yukai has several months. Each poison travels at a different speed, vampire and werewolf being the fastest ones. In a few weeks, he'll be a normal sniper and, in a few months, he'll be a normal corpse." I explained.

"That was a thorough explanation." Kiru marveled.

"And I haven't eaten my fair amount of sweets. I'm starting to think that the sick one is me." I joked.

"Yukai seems like he's not going to last." Shibaki worried.

"He's just trying to save energy. The blood I gave him bought us the months. If I hadn't given him any, he would've been dead by tomorrow." I said emotionless.

"What about Kaede and Shino?" Gotsuki asked.

"They have enough time. They only have to worry about the vampire venom. Yukai has to worry about six venom types simultaneously." I explained.

"We should put an end to whatever is causing this." Reikon said as he walked in the room.

"This is a surprisingly huge room. We can fit half of the population in here." Kiru said in shock.

"That's why we call it an exam room. We examine the sick people." Gotsuki said teasingly.

"Anyone wanna tell me who's Dakomu?" I asked.

"Yeah. He's-... My dad." Shino sighed.
