Chapter 120 - A Life For A Life.
SIRIUS' POV.
one week, three days later
"Hi little James!" I said approaching Lily in her rocking chair.
"His name is Harry, Sirius." Lily laughed.
"Harry Potter." I said proudly looking down at my honorary nephew.
"I'm your uncle Sirius." I said in a small voice, kneeling down to be more on his level.
"I better be his fucking favourite uncle." I said with a fake huff.
"We...actually wanted to talk to you about something, pads." James came into the room with a warmed up little bottle of milk.
I looked at him quizzically. Standing up from my crouched position.
"We don't want Harry to call you his uncle." James said.
"Huh?" I said, feeling offended.
"We want you to be his godfather, Siri." Lily said beaming up at me.
"Wait, really?" I said almost stumbling over my words. The offensive melting away instantly.
"You're my brother, pads. There's no one else we think would take better care of Harry, if anything were to happen." James said happily.
"So we'd like if you could be Harry's favourite Godfather and not uncle?" Lily couldn't stop smiling.
"I thought you guys would have asked Remus! I don't know what to say!" I said honestly, beginning to feel a little emotional.
"We considered it. He's a great choice too. We thought about Remus and Arty for godparents but," Lily said.
"But we want you. You've been so excited for us throughout Lily's whole pregnancy. You were my best man. You're my best friend, my brother, it only makes sense." James said, getting emotional too.
"Oh guys, I'd love to be Harry's Godfather!" I said feeling incredibly honoured.
I threw myself onto James in a big hug, both laughing with joy over the mutual decision. I then lent down and gave Lily a kiss on her forehead, then doing exactly the same to baby Harry.
"I can't believe I technically have a son now. Out of wedlock, the shame. I love it." I joked.
"Not quite." Lily laughed back.
"I mean kinda." James shrugged widening his eyes with a teasing energy.
"I've always been a daddy." I said with a wink in his direction.
"Sirius, for goodness sake." Lily rolled her eyes and lifted herself up from the rocking chair.
"It's time for his nap. Don't you two confuse Harry with having two 'Dads'. People will think we're a thruple" she laughed.
"Both come down in a second, we'll discuss Harry's christening and a party!" Lily said excitedly.
"I'm so glad you said yes." James almost squealed.
Lily left the room and James and I looked at each other with extreme excitement.
"Ahhh!" We both silently screamed and ran up to each other, bouncing up and down like excitable children.
"You've got to teach him a bit of French." James said.
"Only if I can teach him swear words, too." I said.
"Just don't tell Lily and it's a deal." James laughed.
"I'm a Dad! Can you believe that? I feel like I was made for this. I can't wait for it all. If I could teach him to ride a bike tomorrow, I would!" James smiled.
"It really suits you, mate." I replied, feeling full and overflowing with pride.
"I love him so much, it's insane and Lily has been so amazing, I didn't think I could love her more than I did!" James beamed, placing his hands on his face in awe over his life.
"Stop. You're making me broody. I might have to steal him from you." I laughed, giving him a slap on the back.
"I mean if he starts crying every night, you can take him some nights." James laughed.
"I'm only baby sitting when he can speak." I said bluntly.
"and then the French lessons begin." James added with a wink.
We both began to wander downstairs, only to hear quiet muffled crying and not that of a baby.
We rushed down the stairs to see Lily covering her mouth in shock as uncontrollable tears began to stream down her now pink face. She held a letter.
"Lily? What's wrong?" James pushed me aside to comfort his wife.
But she stared at me. Hand still covering her mouth. Eyes wide with a sad sense of shock.
James took the letter from her hands and pushed up his glasses.
"Oh. Oh no." He mumbled. His eyes beginning to mimic hers as he slowly lifted his gaze from the letter to me. Breaking eye contact as quickly as he made it.
"Is everything alright?" I said. The worry and panic evident in my voice.
That's when I saw the letter had been sent for me. Directed instantly with a location spell, as this wasn't my address. A spell only the ministry used.
"You're scaring me." I said quietly. Glancing at my two friends who were frozen in their places, lingering around the front door. The other letters addressed to the Potters, scattered across the floor as if they had been dropped.
James tried to formulate words but all that came out were strained noises and crackling from trying not to cry, like Lily was.
"Guys?" I whispered.
I couldn't take it anymore, I marched over to James and snatched the letter.
"No. Sirius, no." Lily choked, finally removing her hand from her mouth and attempting to grab the letter back.
James grasped hold of Lily and restrained her arms. Silent tears beginning to roll down his face and fog up his glasses. His eyebrows furrowed together.
I looked at him worryingly, my fingers trembling as I felt afraid to open up the scrunched piece of paper that I had almost ruined.
He simply nodded for me to read. A big shaky sigh escaping his body.
"I'd sit down." He whispered, sounding in pain from being so choked up.
