Chapter 17 Baby Its Cold Outside
A/N: sorry its been so long since the last update! Ive been feeling Christmasy so have a cutesy Christmas filler chapter! :D
Lyric flexed her fingers and her wrist and went back to playing the piano while Killian was looking out the window. Lyric hit a few wrong notes and let out a disgruntled sigh.
“You’re doing great love, you just need a break.” Killian said still watching out the window he turned his head and looked at her with a smile. “Come here.”
Lyric stood from the piano and walked over to the window looking at the snow falling down. Even with her recent horrible memories of the snow, it was still beautiful falling down and the christmas lights outside glowing on the blanket fresh white snow on the ground was beautiful.
“I love this time of year.” Lyric smiled.
“I know you do. Why don’t you take a break from the piano lessons and help me set up the Christmas tree. Symphony has been asking me to put it up since the beginning of December she’s just like her mother when it comes to Christmas.” He chuckled.
“Yes she is. In New York..last Christmas we couldn’t really afford a tree. But Jefferson refused to let Symphony down he brought in a tree branch, put it in a jar and hung an ornament on it. Sym loved it.” Lyric smiled.
“Jefferson has come a long way from high school.” Killian smirked.
“Tink straightened him out.” Lyric laughed.
Killian took her hand pulling her along with him to the living room where the tree was up, it just needed to be decorated.
“Maybe we should wait, and decorate with Sym?” Lyric asked. Killian smiled.
“I’d like that actually, lets just put the lights on at least.” He said as he opened a box of pink lights.
“Pink, Mr. Jones?” Lyric grinned.
“Symphony’s request.” Killian chuckled.
“She has got you wrapped around her little finger.” Lyric giggled and helped him with the lights.
“I wasn’t there for the first four years I feel like I have a lot of making up to do.” Killian said and shrugged.
“That wasn’t your fault Killian.. It was mine.” Lyric sighed. “I shouldn’t have let my anger towards you keep you from your child. I’m sorry.” She frowned.
“Its okay Lyric, we’re all in a better place now.” Killian smiled. Lyric put up a strand of lights on the tree.
“You know, I asked her what she wanted this year for Christmas and the answer is usually a puppy..” Lyric started
“Naturally.” Killian chuckled. “I always asked for a puppy too. What does the little lass want this year?”
“This year, She just wants everyone she loves in the same house..” Lyric smiled.
“Darren is going to need a bigger house.” Killian chuckled. “That girl has a lot of love for a lot of people.”
“She does. She has a very big heart for a four year old.”
“Almost 5.” Killian corrected her much like Symphony always does when it comes to her age. Lyric smirked and pushed his shoulder.
“Why don’t we have Christmas here? I’ve got the room for everyone, Your parents, your cousins, Liam and his wife. Tink, Jefferson, Will.. whoever she wants to invite.”
“That's a wonderful idea. She’ll love it.” Lyric smiled.
“So she's not big on the santa thing then?” Killian asked.
“She thinks Santa is terrifying.” Lyric snorted. “The whole he sees you when you're sleeping, he knows when you’re awake line didn’t set well with her.”
“Smart kid.” Killian laughed.
“However, she did say that while this years Christmas wish was a big one, if we could somehow squeeze in a puppy too that would be cool.” Lyric grinned.
“Now i’m beginning to wonder who exactly wants the puppy You, or Sym?” Killian asked with his eyebrow raised.
“Sym..mostly.” Lyric smiled and stepped back to make sure the lights weren’t crooked while Killian finished wrapping his strand around.
“Ready to plug it in?” He asked.
“Aye Aye Captain.” Lyric giggled and crawled down on her hands and knees and plugged in the lights while Killian dimmed the lights in the living room. Lyric stepped back and Killian joined her.
“Hows it look?” He asked as they looked at the bright pink glowing lights.
“Like Christmas in Barbie's dream house.” Lyric smirked. “Sym will love it.” She added and then looked down at her phone.
“Speaking of Sym.. it's about bedtime for her, so I better go home and tuck her in.”
“But its snowing out there.”
“Its December, in Maine. Of course its snowing out there.” Lyric laughed. “Dad checked my tires they’re all good.” Lyric said walking towards the door to get her coat.
“Theres really no need to go out, Lyric I’m sure your parents can put her to bed just stay here tonight. Its freezing.”
“But its not their job Killian, she’s our kid. Really.. I’ll be okay.” Lyric shrugged and picked up her coat. Killian put his hand over hers and turned her around so she was facing him.
“Please.. Don’t go.” He said he had a look of fear in his eyes.
“Killian whats wrong?” Lyric asked. Killian sighed.
“Its just the last time the weather was like this, and you left.. I didn’t know if I’d ever see you again.”
“Oh.. Killian.” Lyric frowned. “Its not as bad, the roads are clear.”
“Lyric for once, just don’t be so bloody stubborn.” Killian pleaded. “I’ll make coffee, and we can watch whatever hallmark christmas movie you want we can even call Sym to tell her good night, just please don’t walk out that door tonight.”
“Okay.” Lyric said and put her hands on his face. “I’ll stay, just calm down.” She’d never seen him anxious about anything, usually she was the anxious one and he was the one telling her to calm down so this was different.
“My arm is feeling better, maybe we can play more piano?” Lyric offered. Killian nodded.
“Sure, Lets call your father and talk to Sym before she goes to bed first.” He smiled.
After calling Symphony and telling her good night, Killian went to make coffee as promised while Lyric went into the piano room and started warming up. Killian carried the coffee down the hall and smiled as he listened to her play, she was getting better and better every day her arm strength was getting better and it wouldn’t be long before she was back to normal. She missed a few notes and grumbled. She was a lot less patient than she was 4 years ago. Killian walked in and Lyric was standing from the piano shaking her head. Killian set the coffee down on the table in the room.
“What are you doing?” He asked.
“Its hopeless, Killian. I was a top student at Julliard and now I can’t play jingle bells.” Lyric mumbled.
“Its not hopeless Lyric, you are doing fine.”
“No, i’m not.” Lyric groaned. “You’re just saying that so I wont get upset.”
“Well if that was truly the case its obviously not working.” Killian said Lyric grabbed her coffee and scoffed taking a sip.
“Sit back down.” Killian said “We’ll keep working on it.”
“Its no use.” Lyric shrugged.
“Lyric, sit down!” Killian barked using his teacher voice she hadn’t heard in years and it almost worked. Almost.
“We aren’t in school anymore Killian, you can’t just order me around.” Lyric said and crossed her arms.
“Oh, I know, if we were still in school, you’d be giving me that adorable deer in the headlights intimidated stare followed by yes sir.” Killian smirked.
“You wish.” Lyric snorted.
Killian raised his eyebrows challengingly at her and stepped forward. Lyric quickly put her coffee down
“What are you doING” She squealed as Killian lifted her off the floor and carried her to the piano bench and made her sit down.
“Its not useless Lyric, you are getting there, you just need to have a little more patience, and faith in me as your teacher..like you used to.” Killian said and sat down next to her. “I always told you, you did better when you challenged yourself, and you keep giving up before you can.”
Lyric frowned and looked away.
“I’m sorry..”
“Its okay. Why don’t we just play together for a while?” He smiled and took her hands putting them on the keys keeping his hands on top of hers guiding them where they needed to go as he started a melody. Lyric giggled at his song choice.
“Really?” She asked.
“Oh you knew it was going to happen. Just sing.” Killian chuckled. Lyric smiled and shook her head.
“I really can’t stay..” She sang.
“But baby its cold outside.” Killian followed up and Lyric instantly felt goosebumps. His voice always did that to her.
They kept on playing and singing along to the music but before long, Lyric was forgetting the words and just listening to him sing. She’d scooted so close to him she was practically in his lap. She stared up at him. Killian looked down at her blue eyes that were almost black. He leaned in slowly, stopping mid verse to kiss her and one would have thought he’d poured gasoline on fire. Lyric nearly pounced on him sending him backwards off of the piano bench he held onto her bringing her down with him.
“Are you sure about this Lyric? I thought we were going slow?” Killian asked. Lyric peeled her sweater off and tossed it across the room.
“When do we ever go slow Killian?” Lyric asked with her eyebrows raised.
“You’ve got a point.” Killian grinned and rolled her over but stood up and held out his hand. Lyric looked at him confused but took his hand and he helped her up she giggled as he scooped her into his arms carrying her out of the room.
“However tonight, I plan on taking my time with you love.” He grinned.
